Twitter Reacts: Arsene Wengers Arsenal Gunned Down By Fans After Missing Out On Champions League Spot

The date 21st May will probably go down in history books as one of the busiest days for sports this year. From football to cricket, there was slam-bang action everywhere with something or the other on offer for every sports fanatic.

The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) found its winners in Mumbai Indians (MI), La Liga (Spanish League) witnessed Real Madrid clinch this year's title and the Premier League giants secured their berth for Champions League after finishing in the top four.

For some, it was the day of jubilation, while for others, it eventually ended with devastation. Unfortunately for Arsenal and their fans, Sunday will be marked a dark day in the history of the club.

Despite beating Everton 3-1 at the Emirates, the Gunners finished this year's Premier League at the fifth spot which quashed their hopes of featuring in the Champions League next year. Their chances of featuring in Europe's biggest club competition were also hampered after wins by both Manchester City and Liverpool who finished on third and fourth position respectively.

It was Arsenal's lowest league finish since 1996, and the first time they've missed out on the Champions League under manager Arsene Wenger whose long-term at the Emirates might finally come to an end with the fans calling for his head.

The Gunners needed to secure a top-four finish in the points table to remain in contention of securing the Champions League spot. And in order to do that, Arsenal needed Liverpool to drop points at Anfield against Middlesbrough, but it was not to be as the Reds beat up on Boro 3-0 to punch their ticket to Europe.

The only consolation for Arsenal fans this season could turn out to be the FA Cup when they lock horns with Chelsea for some much-needed silverware next weekend. But, for the majority of the fans, that is just not enough.
