The five-match T20I series between India and England is will begin from Friday evening as the two sides return to the controversial Narendra Modi stadium pitch once again to prove their dominance in the shortest format of the game.
Ahead of the first match, the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli addressed some of the major talking points about the squad and his plan of action towards the series. Among the various questions thrown towards the skipper, one question was about why Kohli had selected Washington Sundar over Ravichandran Ashwin to be the bowling all-rounder of the team and whether "the door closed for Ashwin in T20 cricket?"
"Is the door closed for Ashwin in T20 cricket?"

"Washington has been doing really well for us, so you can't have two players of the same discipline playing in one squad," Kohli said at a virtual media conference.
"Unless Washi has a drastically horrible season and things go south for him….the question has to be asked with some kind of logic as well. You suggest where you would add Ash and play him in the team when someone like Washington already does that job for the team. So, it's easy to ask the question but you should have a logical explanation to it yourself."
And while the problem of too many options once again becomes a major selection problem, the fans of the veteran off-spinner speculate that the real reason Sundar was given precedence simply because he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Indian Premier League franchise which is captained by Virat Kohli himself.
May be Ash will get priority if he played for RCB!!
— Aswin.V (@v_aswin) March 11, 2021Ashwin should go for RCB maybe ?
— Aash Mehta (@iamaashmehta) March 11, 2021@imVkohli ,@ashwinravi99 is a bigger match winner of India than sundar,so keep your rcb quota to rcb only
— Shubham (@Shubh_00O0) March 11, 2021However with every ‘RCB quota’ argument there were multiple responses that supported the skipper’s decision to choose the young-blood based on his performance in limited-overs cricket.
You need to learn cricket and shit up with your RCB shit. Washington deserved it and is doing pretty well being highest ranked T20 bowler for India. Not to mention, Ash isn't a good fielder, better batsman than Washi. Pretty same in Bowling.
— Riyan Singh (@RiyanSingh19) March 11, 2021No ! No! So why Siraj not in International White ball cricket ?
— Rishu Bhandari (@im_Rishu_4) March 11, 2021Door has been closed on Ashwin for a long time now. Agree that two off spinners can't be playing together and Sundar is doing a good job but Ashwin is a great bowler across formats and a genuine wicket taker. Sundar is more of a containing bowler who bats and fields well.
— Rahul Rawat (@rahul_s_rawat) March 11, 2021The last time Ravichandran Ashwin was seen playing in the blue kit was all the way back in July 2017 while locking horns against Carlos Brathwaite’s West Indies side at the Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica.
Losing the match by 9 wickets, the team had one of the most expensive bowlers in Ashwin who had given up 39 runs in four overs without doing any damage to the Windies’ batting-order in the wickets’ bracket.
