The cannon ball that struck India on the 8th of November was apparently on its way for past 6 months. We will have to give to PM Modi’s ability to guard secrets; he did not let out a single clue.
6 months ago, the Modi government informed the RBI to be prepared for measures to curb the black money issue in India which involved cancellation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. What was to be followed was replacement of all the notes of previous denominations; and the RBI had a major task ahead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made keeping this secret a major priority and even his cabinet was not aware of what was going to come. According to the Economic Times website, the cabinet ministers and the members of Reserve Bank of India board were isolated up until the PM addressed the nation. There are also reports that the cabinet meeting was planned earlier and the ministers were asked to not carry any cell phones.

PM Modi is serious about his fight against corruption and there is no mucking about the fact. As India struggles with the current currency crisis, we are still waiting for what’s to come.
