Sindh?s apex committee reviews NAP progress, COAS reiterates need for durable peace in Karachi

KARACHI: A special meeting of Sindh?s apex committee, attended by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the National Action Plan (NAP) and expressed satisfaction on improvement of law and order situation in the metropolis, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The meeting did impress upon the need for persistent efforts to ?achieve durable peace and stability within the province.

Areas requiring further effort and focus were identified, including, police reforms, better coordination between federal, provincial authorities on NAP, early completion of safe city project and the need for speedy prosecution.

?The forum reiterated the need for durable peace being quintessential for safety and security of the people and economic activities especially in the metropolis,? said the ISPR statement.

The army chief directed all stakeholders to further improve synergy, reaction capability of law enforcement agencies, decision making process and to hold public office holders accountable.

General Bajwa suggested improvements in the internal functioning of Sindh police to include induction on merit, availability of young trained leadership and the strengthening of its leadership, said the statement released by the military?s media wing.

"Stable law and order in the country is only possible with effective writ of the state through implementation of state laws, its willing abidance by the public and across the board speedy dispensation of justice. Despite considerable headway, we have a long way to go on these counts. Army shall continue to render its full support to all state institutions in this regard,? said the army chief.Β 

The meeting was attended by chief minister Sindh, home minister, chief secretary, IGP Sindh, commander Karachi corps, DG ISI, DG Pakistan Ranger Sindh and other senior civil and military officials.Β
