Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi opened to a good response on Friday and saw quite a good growth over the weekend for a healthy opening weekend total.
The movie received rave reviews and opened to Rs 9.75 crore, according to Box Office India. With such a good opening day, Alia has left all her contemporaries far behind in terms of the box office pull of the leading ladies of the Hindi film industry.
In the top ten list of biggest opening days for female-centric films in Bollywood, Alia Bhatt leads with three films, followed by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Sunny Leone with two films each and Priyanka Chopra with one film.

Even though Alia has three films on the list, the top spot is taken by Kareena Kapoor Khan with the 2018 film Veere Di Wedding. The film opened to Rs 10.42 crore.

On the second spot is Alia Bhatt with Gangubai Kathiawadi and the third spot also belongs to her as her 2016 film Dear Zindagi took an opening of Rs 8.62 crore. She also has the 2018 film Raazi at 9th spot with Rs 7.33 crore.
On the fourth spot is Kangana Ranaut with her film Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The 2015 film had collected Rs 8.61 crore.
Rounding the top five is Priyanka Chopra, whose film Mary Kom had made Rs 8.32 crore when released in 2014.
Take a look at the top ten list below:
    1. Veere Di Wedding (2018): Rs 10.42 crore (Kareena Kapoor Khan)
    2.  Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022): Rs 9.75 crore (Alia Bhatt)
    3. Dear Zindagi (2016): Rs 8.62 crore (Alia Bhatt)
    4. Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015): Rs 8.61 crore (Kangana Ranaut)
    5. Mary Kom (2014): Rs 8.32 crore (Priyanka Chopra)
    6. Ragini MMS 2 (2014): Rs 7.93 crore (Sunny Leone)
    7. Manikarnika - Queen of Jhansi (2019): Rs 7.66 crore (Kangana Ranaut)
    8. Jism 2 (2012): Rs 7.46 crore (Sunny Leone)
    9. Raazi (2018): Rs 7.33 crore (Alia Bhatt)
    10. Heroine (2012): Rs 6.82 crore (Kareena Kapoor Khan)

However, Gangubai Kathiawadi is the only film on the list that was released post the pandemic amid a few restrictions including 50 per cent occupancy in theatres in a few states. Which proves Alia Bhatt’s star power and unparalleled box office pull.

Unless you are living under a rock, you would know about the Russian-Ukrainian crisis that has shaken up the world right now.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to invade Ukraine is being condemned by several global leaders and spectators. Among them are some creative minds who are expressing their disapproval through a new and rather controversial social media trend.
    © iStock
It’s the poem title ‘Sorry That I Was Not Your Mother’ which Indian comedian Vir Das too jumped on the bandwagon and penned a desi version of the poem and the people on the internet find it part hilarious and part problematic.

    © Instagram/Vir Das
In the poem, he gives the gist of how desi children are raised and what would happen if Putin too was raised by an “Indian mum”.

    Read it here.

For those who do not know, actress, activist and amateur Twitter poet, AnnaLynne McCord started this social media trend when she recited a poem in a video post addressing Putin.
The poem suggests that the Russian-Ukrainian war wouldn’t have happened if the President was raised better.
Dear Mister President Vladimir Putin… pic.twitter.com/LbDFBHVWJf
    — AnnaLynne McCord (@IAMannalynnemcc) February 24, 2022
This is problematic because this puts the blame on Putin’s mother for his beliefs and actions, which is what society tends to do—hold women responsible for men’s actions!
It received a lot of flak from people on the internet with some saying it was done in a bad taste, while others said it was unfair and unacceptable to not only drag his mother into it but also blame her upbringing for the conflict.

However, it became a social media trend for those who were amused to slam Russia’s invasion into Ukraine. Vir Das’s take on the trend too received mixed reactions from his followers.

    Here is what they said.

While a war between two countries is not funny and making memes or joke on the subject is highly insensitive, this satire by Vir Das sounds like it’s more targeted on desi parenting than Putin. Doesn’t it?

    Remember Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar?

The actress attained mega popularity status when she did the role of Inspector Urmila Matondkar in the Tusshar Kapoor film Kya Kool Hai Hum.
Isha also starred in other hit movies like Shah Rukh Khan's Don, Krishna Cottage, and others.

As per reports, it was also revealed that Isha was asked to go to the meeting without her staff.

However, Isha refused to do that and was apparently thrown out of the film just for that.
“I am a no-nonsense girl and that’s the vibe I exude. A lot of time people misconstrue it for being intimidating. I am here for my work. If I like you, I will talk to you, if you mess with me, good luck to you. I have lost a lot of projects, because of this attitude of mine.” Isha said while speaking to the Bombay Times.
“In mid-2000, I was called by a renowned producer who said that you have to be in the good books of the hero. I didn’t know what he meant. So, I called up the hero, who asked me to meet him alone. At that point, he was being accused of infidelity, so he asked me to visit him minus my staff. I called the producer and told him that I am here due to my talent and looks and if that can get me good work, then it’s good enough. I was thrown out of the film.” said Isha.
Earlier, even Nargis Fakhri had revealed that she had missed out on a lot of films because she refused to engage in casting couch.
“I always knew what I was hungry for. I am not hungry for fame. Therefore, nothing can be agreed to do. Can not be nude. Or can’t sleep with the director. I have lost many jobs because I have not done ‘some things’. And it was heartbreaking. I had a standard. I had a boundary. But it felt bad when I was thrown out for taking these things more than once. But then I came to know that good people win. Of course, do not win by holding their way, but ‘own’ win by holding a path." she said while speaking in an interview.
Great to see these strong ladies standing up for the right thing!

Vasiliy Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medallist boxer from Ukraine, has joined the territorial defence battalion in his hometown to help the country in its ongoing war against Russia.
Lomachenko has joined the Klitschko brothers from Ukraine, as the boxers have thrown away their boxing gloves and taken guns in their hands to defend their country against the ongoing Russian invasion.
Lomachenko posted a picture on his Facebook account in which he can be seen wearing a military uniform with an assault rifle hanging from his shoulder.

According to a report by ESPN, the three-time world champion boxer was in Greece when the invasion started but he soon returned home to be with his family. Due to the restrictions in Ukrainian air space, Lomachenko had to take a flight to Bucharest and travelled back home via Romania.
The president of the World Boxing Council of Ukraine hailed their boxers as 'champions in the ongoing war'.
"We are so proud of our boxers, our real champions in boxing and champions in this war. We are so proud to be Ukrainians," Mykola Kovalchuk, president of WBC Ukraine was quoted as saying by ESPN.

    — Combat Misfits Podcast (@CombatMisfits) February 28, 2022Talking about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, it is nothing like our generation has seen before. The country is looking up to their President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who happens to be leading from the front in defending Ukraine against Russia's invasion.
President Zelenskyy's positive approach seems to be rubbing onto the citizens of Ukraine as more and more people from the country are joining their president in the war instead of fleeing to safety.
Coming back to Lomachenko's record inside the boxing ring, the 34-year-old had won his first Olympic gold medal in 2008 in the Beijing Games in the featherweight category while his second Olympic gold came in London in 2012 in the lightweight category.

After turning professional, Lomachenko has featured in 18 matches and won 16 out of which 11 came via knockout. He has lost just two matches since he turned pro.

Lock Upp, hosted by Bollywood diva Kangana Ranaut, finally premiered on ALTBalaji and MX Player last night. The show's format is very similar to Salman Khan's Bigg Boss as 16 celebrities including Poonam Pandey, Karanvir Bohra, Payal Rohatgi, and Munawar Faruqui will go through dramatic situations and tasks to survive in jail. It is now streaming 24x7 on both the OTT platforms.
    View this post on Instagram
As expected, Kangana kickstarted the reality show with some fireworks. The Lock Upp premiere made several headlines as the actress, who is known for her strong opinions, argued with several contestants during their introduction segment. She even mocked Hrithik Roshan in the first episode. Yes, you read that right!
Ever since Ekta Kapoor announced Lock Upp, the show has been grabbing eyeballs. During the premiere episode, Kangana introduced the show saying that several people are scared of getting exposed on Lock Upp. She added that people, who ignored her for several years, have now started talking to her again.
Mocking the Super 30 star, she said, "Log apne pancho ungliyan jodh kar...haath jodh rahe hai... aur 6 ungliyon wale ka bhi gala sukh raha hai".
    View this post on Instagram
Kangana remarked that a man with six fingers is concerned, and we all know that Hrithik has six fingers. So, was that an indirect jab against the actor? Well, yes, that appears to be the case.
We wonder how would Hrithik react to Kangana's statement.
    View this post on Instagram
For the unversed, Hrithik and Kangana share an interesting history and have worked together in films like Kites and Krrish 3. The speculations of their alleged love affair made news after the Queen actress indirectly referred to him as her 'silly ex' in a tweet. Later, Hrithik too took a dig at her and there was no turning back after that. Post that, both of them slammed each other publically on several occasions. They even took legal action against each other.
While Kangana, several times, had claimed that she was in a relationship with Hrithik back then, the actor chose to maintain a silence on the whole controversy.

From having read stories of the previous world wars to nearly witnessing a potential one right now as Russia invades Ukraine, it seems that as the world is spinning on its axis, it’s coming closer and closer to its end.
On Thursday last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered a full-blown attack on Ukraine, leaving the world in a state of disbelief.
He announced that Russia could not feel "safe, develop and exist" and feared a constant threat from modern Ukraine, which is why they began the attack on Ukraine.

In the past couple of days, things have gotten too intense as troops invaded the borders, Black Sea island, and started bombing parts of Kyiv.

In the meantime, as witnessing countries chose their sides on either side of this war, India’s focus was to first evacuate Indian students stuck at the Ukraine-Poland border.
    © Twitter
It turns out several Indian students had been stuck for over 72 hours at the Ukraine border, but that was not the most concerning part. What was, was all of them claiming how they had been manhandled and treated poorly by the Ukrainian security personnel.

They alleged that they were kicked, beaten, dragged and had even their phones snatched by the border guards, who at first were allowing students to cross over to Poland, but later stopped them from going across.
    © Twitter
Sandeep Kaur, one of the students shared, “I was waiting along with my brother and some of our friends in a group. First, the officials asked us to stand in a line and we did. Later they asked the girls to make a separate line... They then let me cross the border while my brother waited on the other side. When my brother said that he too was in the queue, they dragged and beat him with a baton.”

    © Twitter
He went on to share how things only got worse since there was no one from the Indian embassy to coordinate with the Ukrainian government.

He said, “After we crossed the Poland border, we met Indian embassy officials but there was none on the Ukrainian side. Boys on the Ukrainian side have been manhandled badly. Now my brother is returning to his college hostel along with his friends as the situation has worsened.”
    © Twitter
Another student on the other hand revealed to New Indian Express that, “We left at 4 am in the morning from Ternopil. The Indian Embassy had informed us that the Poland border is open and we can leave, but at the border, we were stopped by the Ukrainian Army. The temperature is three degrees. People are falling sick. When we called the Polish embassy, they asked us to call the Kyiv Embassy which told us to coordinate with the Polish Embassy.”

    © Twitter
Students are claiming that since India has seemingly made its stance clear in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Ukrainian personnel are unhappy with them, which is the reason behind their ill-treatment.

Mayank Agarwal was one of the two players Punjab Kings (PBKS) retained ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.

Led by former India captain Virat Kohli for the past nine years, RCB will have to figure out Kohli's replacement at the helm as the 33-year-old has stepped down from the role of captaincy.
Kohli had announced his decision ahead of the resumption of the IPL back in September last year. Curious to know who will lead the Bengaluru-based franchise, fans took to Twitter to take a sly dig at RCB.
