If not for Robert Downey Jr’s iconic turn as Iron Man, there wouldn’t have been the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we know today and the global domination of superhero films. Which means Martin Scorsese would’ve been a happier man.
But since Robert Downey Jr’s turn as Iron Man received a lot of love from the audience and critics alike, it resulted in the MCU turning into a massive box office juggernaut.
It has been talked about time and again how Robert Downey Jr wasn’t a saleable star before Iron Man due to his drug addiction and subsequent jail time.
But, Iron Man director Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios’ chief played gamble on Robert Downey Jr and as they say, rest is history.
Robert Downey Jr, on his part, was smart enough to grab the opportunity with both hands and made the most of it.
© Twitter/Trung Phan
He was signed for a meagre $500K for his lead role in Iron Man. In comparison, Terrence Howard, who was a more popular actor back then and played the supporting role of James Rhodes was paid more than RDJ.
But, post the unprecedented success of Iron Man thanks majorly to RDJ’s inimitable portrayal, he was approached by Marvel Studios to sign a contract for a number of future films. This time, the tables had turned, now Marvel Studios wanted RDJ more than he wanted them.
This was also because, in the same year as Iron Man, the studio also released a second film in the proposed MCU titled The Incredible Hulk and starring a much bigger and popular star in Edward Norton but the end result was as satisfactory as they’d have hoped.
© Marvel Studios
A social media user has tracked RDJ’s re-emergence, his rise to global stardom and how he turned $500K to an unthinkable $450 million in just a span of 11 years.
In a series of tweets, the user wrote, “When Iron Man came out in 2008, Robert Downey Jr. was *not* a marquee star. He was rebuilding his career and paid a below market rate of $500k. But the deal terms set him up for one of the great acting comebacks ever and he's earned $450m+ as Tony Stark. Here’s the story”.
He followed it up with, “In the early-90s, Downey Jr. was one of the brightest young stars in Hollywood, receiving a Best Actor nomination for "Charlie Chaplin" in 1992 (@ 27yrs old). In the 2nd half of the decade, though, he dealt with drug addiction, arrests and jail stints before going clean in 2001.”
© Twitter/Trung Phan
The thread further read, “In 2007, Marvel went all in on Iron Man w/ a budget of $140m (for reference, its operating cash flow in 2006 was $158m). Tony Stark was not a traditional muscle-bound superhero and needed a specific type of actor to convey both swagger and vulnerability.”
“Downey Jr. had acting chops but wasn't an action lead. Director Jon Favreau wanted him and producer Kevin Feige backed it, calling the decision the "biggest risk" for the MCU. Crucially, Downey Jr. bet on himself: he took a low base ($500k) in exchange for a % of box office.”
“Iron Man (2008) was a smash hit and took in $585m globally. Downey Jr. was perfect in the role and made $2m with backend (it would only get bigger from here). Marvel's ability to make its own smash film attracted a major fish: Disney bought Marvel for $4B in August 2009.”
Post the release of Iron Man, here’s how things for interesting as the tread notes, “Iron Man 2 (2010) The sequel was released a few months after Disney's acquisition. With the success of the first film, Downey Jr. negotiated himself a huge pay raise: $10m base + backend. The film earned $623m at the box office and Downey Jr's total haul was ~$12m.”
© Marvel Studios
After the blockbuster that was Marvel’s The Avengers in 2012, RDJ’s “bet on himself paid off: he made $50m ($10m base + $40m backend).”
For Iron Man 3 in 2013, RDJ “made another $50m ($10m base + $40m backend).”
For Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Downey Jr further made $60 million. Noting how Marvel Studios made a few more stars in MCU so that they don’t have to be dependent on RDJ fully, he wrote, “In the lead-up to its release, Marvel made a new Thor and Cpt. America flick as well as Guardians of the Galaxy. By raising the star of the other actors, Marvel was hoping to gain some negotiating leverage.”
© Twitter/Trung Phan
But prior to Captain America: Civil War (2016), “Chris Evans (Cpt. America) said he might quit MCU to pursue directing. The threat of losing a leading man put Downey Jr back in driver seat. Civil War made $1.2B and -- in a reduced role -- he still made $64m ($50m + $14m).”
For his cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming, RDJ “made $1m per minute of screen time ($10m total).”
And finally for Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), Robert Downey Jr earned an unthinkable “$75m and $130m, respectively”.
To sum it up, “across 9 films, Robert Downey Jr. has earned an estimated $453m from playing Iron Man.”

In less than 24 hours from now, cricket fanatics all around the world will be glued to their TV screens to watch the live broadcast of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Some of the biggest names of cricket will go under the hammer over the next two days to determine if they would be part of the biggest T20 league in the world or not.
© Twitter/IPL
A total of 590 players have been picked by the 10 franchises for the auction, of which 370 are Indians while the remaining 220 belong to 14 different counties.
Given only four foreigners are allowed in the Playing XI and there are only a fixed number of slots reserved for them, it’s not easy for the overseas talents to attract bids at the auction.
© Twitter/IPL
Despite this limitation, over the years we have seen several foreigners triggering a huge bidding war among the franchises and end up bagging multi-crore IPL deals .
Last year also, the overseas players attracted massive interest and some of them even ended up fetching huge contracts. But not every player was able to justify his huge price tag and teams had no option but to release them ahead of the mega auction.
© Twitter/IPL
While some of them have prepared themselves for the bidding war yet again, some cricketers failed to become part of this year’s auction pool due to various reasons.
Here are five cricketers who had bagged multi-crore deals last year but are not part of this year’s mega auction:
Chris Morris © Twitter/IPL
The South Africa all-rounder created history when Rajasthan Royals splashed a whopping Rs 16.25 crore to sign him at the auction last year – making him the most buy in the tournament’s auction history.
However, he failed to justify his price tag in the two-legged tournament last year and was released by the Jaipur-based outfit. Apart from franchise cricket, he hadn't been playing much cricketM of late and perhaps that’s why he decided to call time on his career.
Kyle Jamieson © Twitter/IPL
The tall Kiwi pacer was picked for a staggering Rs 15 crore by Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of last season. He wasn’t a complete flop as he featured in the first-leg of the tournament and managed nine wickets in as many outings. He decided to withdraw from this year’s auction to concentrate on improving his game.
Jhye Richardson © Twitter/IPL
The Australian fast bowler bagged a lucrative deal in last year’s auction, with Punjab Kings splashing Rs 14 crore for him. However, he couldn’t produce performances to justify his huge price tag. He played only three matches in the first phase and snared three wickets. He opted out of the second leg that took place in the UAE. The bowling all-rounder is not part of this year’s auction.
Tom Curran © Twitter/IPL
The England all-rounder was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 5.25 crore but he struggled to get regular game time. He has a big reputation but hasn’t produced any significant performances in the IPL thus far. The Englishmen won’t be taking part in this year’s event along with his brother Sam Curran who last featured for CSK.
Dan Christian © Twitter/IPL
The Australian all-rounder Dan Christian made a comeback to the cash-rich league last year when RCB acquired him for Rs 4.80 crore. The 38-year-old veteran had a rather disappointing season with both bat and ball. Now that he is not part of this year’s auction, we might have seen his last in the tournament.

As important as a good, supportive pair of underpants are for men, this is the one piece of clothing that most men pay the least attention to. Our general attitude towards our underwear is “Let’s get this over with, anything will do.”
© Eros Now
Well, not only is that a little unfair to our chap down there, we are actually missing out on a lot of opportunities to make dating, or rather getting laid, more fun. Remember John Abraham and his yellow swimsuit from Dostana? Enough said…
© Dharma Productions
Now, you can play it safe and go for the same boring ol’ pair of boxers or briefs that you wear every day.
Or, you can get a little smart, switch things up a little, and actually have fun, all the while improving your chances of scoring.
© Instagram/thejohnabraham
1. Wear Something New-ish First and foremost, go for a fresh pair that is somewhat new, and that you’re comfortable in.
For heaven’s sake, don’t wear a pair that has unwanted holes, or whose stitching has come undone! That makes you look like a pauper, and there are good chances that you may be sent off, even before you get the chance to score.
Also, if you don’t want the skin around your crown jewels to get irritated and all itchy, if you’re trying a brand new pair, we suggest you wash it with a mild detergent first.
2. The Size & Fit © Pexels
This goes without saying, but you just have to wear the right size.
Wearing a smaller size is just inviting trouble, and wearing a size over makes you look unflattering in all the wrong places.
You also want to select a piece that has a good elastic band and is comfortable. You don’t want your waist to have a ring of unflattering elastic marks around your waist.
Another reason why you would want to go for a pair of the right size that fits you well is that you don’t want to be adjusting yourself in the middle of the date, or keep on scratching yourself in all the wrong places.
via GIPHY
3. The Style © Pexels
Now, there are a number of styles to choose from, but you should go for something that accentuates your stuff and makes them look(and by extension, you) look good. Ideally, you would want some areas to bulge out a little, without having to stuff.
While boxers are extremely comfortable, they can be very unflattering. Briefs look very sexy, provided you have the physique to carry them and are actually comfortable in them - not all men find briefs comfortable.
The best thing to go for would be boxer briefs. They make you seem bigger in all the right places, they fit really well as compared to boxers.
4. The Colour © iStock
Think beyond the obvious choices. Avoid your usual solid-colours pairs, unless you’re going for a black piece that is really well-fitting.
You can definitely play around with colours and prints, as that will only lighten the mood, and make things more fun. With prints, you open up a world of possibilities.
© Yash Raj Film
If, for example, you both enjoy a show like ‘Family Guy’ or ‘The Office’ you have tons of options to go from with quirky characters or quotes from the show. Seriously, the sky is your limit.
5. The Fabric © iStock
Remember how ecstatic Joey was in friends when he decided to experiment with his underpants? Now, we’re not saying that you need to go to the extent he did, but seriously, some materials are a godsend when it comes to underwear.
While good cotton underpants are great, try something that has a satin-like finish, or better yet, is made of silk. Trust us, you’ll thank us later.
6. The Comfort © Pexels
Now, all of these things are secondary. The most important thing is your comfort. If you’re comfortable with a particular style or shape of underpants and feel a little squeamish about trying out a different shape, that’s okay. The same goes for the kind of fabric you chose.
You don’t want to draw unnecessary, or rather the wrong kind of attention, so don’t wear something that will force you to adjust your crown jewels in the middle of a conversation, or makes you want to scratch yourself all the time.
It will be good if you can have a trial run of sorts with the pair you finally decide to wear.

Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi is known to be the industry's 'serial kisser' for a reason, with the actor getting the tag after romancing and kissing actresses on-screen in so many movies over the last decades.
© BCCL
Even his sports film Azhar, which was based on the life of ex-Indian cricketer Mohd Azharuddin, the actor had kissing scenes in that movie as well.
The movie's plot surrounded Azhar Mohammad's journey from being a child from a middle-class family to becoming an eminent cricketer for his country India, while also having match-fixing accusations against him.
© YouTube
The 2016 movie starring Bollywood actresses Nargis Fakhri and Prachi Desai ended up getting mixed reviews from fans as well as critics.
While the movie was more cricket-centric, it appeared that its high number of kissing scenes got to Nargis Fakhri, with the actress revealing not 'enjoying it' much.
Nargis, who played the role of Mohd Azharuddin’s second wife Sangeeta Bijlani, was first off not so psyched about Emraan's moustache in the film.
“He’s done that a lot. For me, it was pretty gross. You see that moustache (points at the film’s poster)? How do I know that’s not made from pubic hair? I had to kiss that. Not once, several times. The moustache was annoying as hell. I really didn’t know what was happening, had no clue about the subject as you know I am not from here. I didn’t know who Azhar was, what he had done. I agreed because I felt I could portray the character well. I have done the best I can with the source I had- Bijlani’s previous films.” said Nargis, while speaking to Huffingtonpost.
© Instagram
Nargis, who had earlier spoken about the casting couch in Bollywood, then also added on how there were far too many kissing scenes in the movie, and how she couldn't really enjoy them.
“I probably didn’t enjoy the song as much as he did. Lots of kissing happened. In fact, there was so much of it that at one point I wasn’t sure if they were retakes, a part of the song, or someone playing a prank on me.” said Nargis, while speaking to Mumbai Mirror.

We wonder how Sanjay and Maanayata would react to it. Trolling culture has taken over the internet and celebs have become its easy targets. This must end now.
For the unversed, the happily-married couple dated each other for around two years before tying the knot. They are parents to twins - daughter Iqra Dutt and son Shahraan Dutt.
On the career front, the actor was last seen in Ajay Devgn-starrer Bhuj: The Pride of India. His next release would be the pan-India film KGF 2, starring Yash in the lead role. It is slated to hit the theatres on April 14. His lineup also includes projects like Prithviraj and Shamshera.

As we near the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), players, who are out of international cricket, have started to sweat it out in the nets to prepare for the T20 league. MS Dhoni was one of the first cricketers who was seen having a nets session at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi a few days back.
India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been away from the game since India's exit from the T20 World Cup last year, too has started to gear up for the upcoming edition where he will be donning the captain's hat for the first time in the franchise-based tournament.
Hardik was roped in as the captain of one of the two new teams in IPL -- Gujarat Titans ahead of the mega auction, slated to be held across two days in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
NEWS : IPL 2022 Player Auction list announced
The Player Auction list is out with a total of 590 cricketers set to go under the hammer during the two-day mega auction which will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13, 2022.

The all-rounder had opted out of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season to focus on his fitness and white-ball cricket. A video has been doing the rounds on social media in which Hardik can be seen bowling in the nets.
Hardik created a stir on social media after he revealed in an interview that he was picked as a batter for the T20 World Cup last year but was asked to roll his arm over despite not being 100 per cent bowling fit.

After being away from the news for quite some time, Test veteran Ajinkya Rahane is back in the news once again.
However, this time it has nothing to do with his batting. The former Test vice-captain has been hogging limelight for some of the comments that he made during an interview.
© Instagram/Ajinkya Rahane
The 33-year-old batter has accused some people of stealing the credit for the decisions that he made during the historic Test series win in Australia and presenting them as their own in the public.
After the disappointing loss in the series opener in Adelaide, India moved to Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test. It was a pretty memorable encounter for Rahane as his last Test century came in that match which guided India to an impressive series-levelling win.
© Reuters
Not just his superb hundred, Rahane also received praise for some of the decisions that he made during the match. One decision that he remembers fondly from that game was the introduction of Ravichandran Ashwin into the bowling attack inside the first 10 overs.
Recalling that decision during the ‘Backstage with Boria’ show, Rahane said that he took that call “purely on instinct” and was glad that it paid off nicely, with India getting two wickets of Matthew Wade and Steve Smith in two overs.
“Bringing Ashwin in the ninth over was completely instinctive and that played off really well. It got Matthew Wade out and Steve Smith out in two overs. I won't say that it completely turned the game in our favour after that but I will admit that was a decision which was purely on instinct. Wicket was looking damp. After the pacers went about in the first three-four overs I felt I should use Ashwin in Melbourne and the time was now,” Rahane said.
“I know what I've done there. I don't need to tell anyone. That's not my nature to go and take credit. Yes, there were some things that I took the decisions on the field or in the dressing room but someone else took the credit for it. (What was) important for me was that we won the series. That was a historical series and for me, that was really special,” he added.
© Reuters
Rahane’s startling revelations have caused quite a stir on social media and the fans have started digging up evidence to prove the truth.
While Rahane has credited himself with the decision of introducing Ashwin early into the attack, an old video of the off-spinner doing rounds on the micro-blogging site has presented a different story altogether.
© Instagram/Ravichandra Ashwin
The clipping that has gone viral after Rahane’s shocking accusations is from Ashwin’s YouTube channel. In the video, the veteran off-spinner can be heard saying it was Shastri who told him to get the bowl inside the first 10 because he felt the pitch would be damp and might offer some spin.
Who is lying, Ashwin or Rahane?
(Watch full video) pic.twitter.com/1ndQLG2wZD
— Sid Nanda (@sid_2893) February 10, 2022
“Ravi Shastri came into the dressing room and boomed, ‘ASSHHHH, get the ball in the first 10 overs’. I was just wearing my pants. I thought ‘in Melbourne he wants me to bowl in the first 10 overs’ (Ashwin imitating Shastri),” Ashiwn told India's former fielding coach R Sridhar while recording a video for his YouTube channel.
“It might be damp, it might spin, I have told Jinks (Rahane)’. Bumrah bowled a good spell. Jinks then gave me the ball and the first ball I bowled, it spun a lot and bounced as well. I was like wow,” Ashwin added.
People are now confused who to believe as both Rahane and Ashwin have made contrasting claims.
Obviously rahane is lying because the bowler told it's shastri decision.
No use for ashwin to credit anyone so rahane trying to defame shastri . ( My perspective)
— G Shashi (@GShashiYadav1) February 10, 2022@ajinkyarahane88 is the culprit here...
— Bikash Kumar Dhal (@Bikashdhal96) February 11, 2022Obviously useless Rahane is lying... his performance has been so poor that he his begging for credits... Ashwin is instinctively replying to interviewer and with facts like he was putting on his clothes then Shashtri called him and asked to bowl in 1st 10 overs..
— Brijesh (@Brijesh_SD) February 11, 2022Both first give credit to the bowler who took the wicket of Smith for 0 by bowling right https://t.co/aYa0iYYvcT Ashwin should get the credit not Rahane or shastri
— shashank sri (@ravia123ash) February 10, 2022Neither is lying. If you understand Tamil, Ashwin is not contradicting Rahane. On the field, it was Rahane who threw the ball to Ashwin. It was a great tactical move. Why the fuss?
— Raghu (J Raghuraman) (@jraghu) February 10, 2022Ashwin doesn't seem the lying kind. The way he was speaking there, it appeared to come out naturally in conversation. Baaki tho aap log samajdhar ho.Khud samaj jao
— AbhiShankarKS (@AbhiShankarKS) February 11, 2022Even if Rahane is true, self appraisal will never go with social media guys. And to add, Ashwin mentioned this immediately after the game. So he can't be lying. Rahane could be partly right as he made the decision on the field.
— Maaraaaaaa (@NamakkuEdhukku) February 10, 2022After hearing both sides of the story, all we can say for now is that it was Shastri who put this idea of bringing in Ashwin inside the first 10 overs in Rahane’s mind.
Ashwin’s statement confirms that Rahane merely acted upon the coach’s advice and that’s why his claim that someone else stole the credit for his decisions doesn’t hold true, at least in this case.
© Reuters
Neither Shastri nor Rahane, if there is one person who deserves all the credit it’s Ashwin who bowled the right length and picked up those wickets.
