There are films that work at the box office despite receiving poor reviews and then there are films that receive good reviews, work well at the box office however, you wonder while watching them, β€œWhat is it that people love about it that you are unable to appreciate?”
In this week’s unpopular opinion, here’s a list of highly loved, fan-favourite films that I absolutely found overrated.Β
Pretty sure I am going to receive a lot of love from the fans of these movies in the comments. Keeping that in mind, take a look at the list 5 overrated Bollywood films below:Β Β
    1. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)Β  Β© Dharma Productions
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani starred Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur & Kalki Koechlin. Upon its release, it received positive reviews and turned out to be a blockbuster earning over Rs 190 crore at the box office.Β

Over the years, it has garnered a following of its own on social media with many users often referring to it as a modern-day classic.Β
But, here’s the thing, when I first watched the film back in 2013, I found it at best mediocre and frivolous. Upon seeing the love it continues to get from a section of the audience, I decided to revisit it but still ended up not liking it.Β
In my unpopular opinion, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani is a highly overrated film. Period.Β
    2. Bajirao Mastani (2015)Β  Β© Eros International
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Bajirao Mastani starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. The movie was released alongside Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan & Kriti Sanon.Β

Surprisingly, it earned more than the SRK starrer in the long run in India, although King ruled overseas & worldwide.Β
Moreover, the reviews were mostly positive. Amid the hype, I went to watch the film and to simply put, found it… boring. Of the three films that SLB made with Ranveer & Deepika, this is the most forgettable.
    3. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012)Β  Β© Dharma Productions
Shakun Batra's directorial debut starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan was an average success at the box office but in recent years I have come across many tweets calling the film ahead of its time and how it is a masterpiece. Some have even called it one of the best rom-coms in Bollywood.Β

I decided to revisit the film again and I have to say it is as mediocre as it was back in 2012. Just because a film gets old it automatically doesn’t become good.Β
    4. Vivah (2006)Β  Β© Rajshri Productions
I still don’t get all the hype around the love and box office Vivah received. So much so that it turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office.Β

I have often enjoyed Sooraj Barjatya films (Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain) and have watched them multiple times but with Vivah, it was difficult for me to even go through it once. It’s cringe.Β
    5. Rustom (2016)Β  Β© Zee Studios
Okay, this isn’t exactly a film that many people love but somehow it was a box office success and won its lead star Akshay Kumar a National Film Award. Moreover, it also has a high IMDb rating of 7.1.Β Β

To be honest, ever since Akshay Kumar’s golden run started at the box office with the 2016 film Airlift, Rustom is his worst film. Housefull 4 is still better and I didn’t enjoy that film at all.Β
Still trying to wrap my head around Akshay’s National Award win and the film's high IMDb rating.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finally revealed the details about the IPL 2022 mega auction, including the dates, venue and timing.Β
However, the fans of the Punjab Kings franchise of the league are worried about the team owner Preity Zinta and the chances of her being present at the venue to bid for the players.
According to the information released by the Indian cricket board, the mega auction is going to take place on February 12th and 13th, as scheduled.Β
The venue for the event is set to be in Bengaluru. A total of 1214 players have submitted their names to become a part of the IPL auction pool.

    β€” IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) January 22, 2022
Each of the 10 franchises that will be participating in the 2022 edition of the tournament has been given a Rs 90 crore purse. The eight teams that were already a part of the previous season have spent some portion of this purse in retaining a total of 27 players.Β
Whereas, the two new teams from Lucknow and Ahmedabad were allowed to buy three players each ahead of the auction in order to form their core teams.
And while most of the fans are eagerly waiting to see what all the franchise would look like after the league undergoes that massive shake-up that the mega auction is, the supporters of one particular franchise is nervous about something else altogether.

The followers of Punjab Kings are worried about the presence of their team owner Preity Zinta at the venue and the chances of her being responsible for making the bids on the players.Β
After not retaining their biggest player KL Rahul and instead investing in an uncapped player Arshdeep Singh as the future of the franchise alongside Mayank Agarwal, the Punjab team management will be walking into the auction room with the most amount of money in their wallet - Rs 72 crore to be exact.
Purses left for all teams for #IPL2022

    Punjab Kings: 72 crore
    Sunrisers Hyderabad: 68 crore
    Rajasthan Royals: 62 crore
    Royal Challengers Bangalore: 57 crore
    Chennai Super Kings: 48 crore
    Kolkata Knight Riders: 48 crore
    Mumbai Indians: 48 crore
    Delhi Capitals: 47.5 crore

While the sum allows the squad to create a new team and have a fresh start this season, fans believe Zinta has a habit of going on a bidding war for most of the players whose names come up during the auction. As a result, the Punjab team often ends up playing a lot of money on players who do not deliver a return on their investment.
Yeah, totally agree with you on this
Priety Zinta and her powers are unmatched in auction. Add Kumble on top of that and we've a fatal combo

I don't want to see Zinta in the auction, man . Just goes on to bid every player in the auction.

β€” Adi (@adithya_electro) January 21, 2022It has been seven years since PBKS made it to the playoffs of the IPL tournament. The last time they moved past the regular season was in 2014 when they were at the top of the points table but lost to the Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
