You know how when we were younger, we would all have a very vivid dream of becoming something or the other? For some, it was to be a pilot, other’s it was to be a unicorn. For me, it was to be a neurosurgeon.
Of course, that dream was short-lived considering the first time I saw blood, and it wasn’t even mine, I fainted.
The dream to cut open people’s brains to fix them soon transformed into writing something they’d never forget and it was then, that I decided to pursue my passion. Which was unlike so many others who have had to give up their dreams to make their career.
Like, Indian industrialist - Anand Mahindra.
© Anand Mahindra
For those of you (like me) who thought that a man like Anand Mahindra would’ve been born with an affinity for business, let me burst your bubble and tell you that he was far from it.
In fact, if Anand Mahindra were to actually pursue his dream and think of an alternate career, it would be filmmaking!
@anandmahindra Ji, You are now leading a Giant Mahindra group.. But what was your ambition during your School/College days? Hv you ever felt like missing some other favourite profession?
— Eswaran (@eswarjpm) January 12, 2022
In a rather interesting thread on Twitter, billionaire Anand Mahindra opened up about his childhood dreams when a user asked him, “@anandmahindra Ji, You are now leading a Giant Mahindra group.. But what was your ambition during your School/College days? Hv you ever felt like missing some other favourite profession?”
You choose a safer path of family business rather than your passion
— vivekcse (@vivek57962776) January 20, 2022
And much to everyone’s surprise, Anand Mahindra’s revelation about not having chosen his passion as a career option, was a little too relatable with all of us.
He wrote, “Easy to answer this. I wanted to be a filmmaker & was studied film in college. My thesis was a film I made at the ‘77 Kumbh Mela. But this pic was while shooting a documentary in a remote village near Indore. Anyone old enough to guess which handheld 16mm camera I was using?”
the film industry's loss was the automotive industry's gain! but hey, never say never?
— srivats sivanandan (@srewats) January 20, 2022Sir, Having lead the Mahindra group very successfully, do you have any regret for not chasing your childhood dream of a different profession ? Just curious.
— Hari (@imharikrishn) January 20, 2022You choose a safer path of family business rather than your passion
— vivekcse (@vivek57962776) January 20, 2022OOOH... Film Industry missed a Great Director
— gs (@GSVIJAYGANDHI) January 20, 2022And while many started taking a wild guess at which camera it was, others were still letting the fact that Anand Mahindra was one of us, sink in.
One user wrote, “the film industry's loss was the automotive industry's gain! but hey, never say never?” while another one commented, “You choose a safer path of family business rather than your passion.”
One Twitter user even asked, “Sir, Having lead the Mahindra group very successfully, do you have any regret for not chasing your childhood dream of a different profession ? Just curious.”
No, but she was only a year junior to me in college in the same college film department. And she’s always kidded me that I ‘sold out to the establishment’ when I left film behind & went to Business School! https://t.co/meW7wqwIQ7
— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) January 20, 2022Meanwhile, as someone asked the Indian billionaire if it was Mira Nair who clicked the picture, he replied saying, “No, but she was only a year junior to me in college in the same college film department. And she’s always kidded me that I ‘sold out to the establishment’ when I left film behind & went to Business School!”
Well, glad to know mere mortals like us are not alone when it comes to nursing failed childhood dreams.

It will be an understatement to say that Shikhar Dhawan is an underrated player. Despite scoring big in international cricket, one or two bad innings from the left-hander often result in him getting dropped from the playing XI.
Dhawan was named in the Indian ODI squad for the ongoing three-match series in South Africa but even when the experienced Rohit Sharma was not available, a few experts including former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar kept Dhawan out of his playing XI for the series opener.
FIFTY!
A quick fire half-century for @SDhawan25 in the 1st ODI.
His 34th overall
Live - https://t.co/PJ4gV99ISb #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/SyPP5HGA7l
— BCCI (@BCCI) January 19, 2022
Dhawan answered his critics with his bat as he ended up being the highest scorer for India in the game, scoring 79 runs and stitching a 92-run stand with former skipper Virat Kohli.
Though Dhawan’s knock went in vain, as the Indian middle-order collapsed against an inexperienced South African bowling attack, his individual brilliance was enough to shut down his doubters.
Fans were in awe of Dhawan and they spoke their hearts out on social media.
Best odi player after kohli
— TheKing (@TheKing67833599) January 19, 2022Shikhar Dhawan is must in ODIs no matters what.
— A B H I (@AbhishekICT) January 19, 2022Don't know why he is not frequently included in the team and also in the test team. Need left handers at the top order. Yeh bhi #BCCI se jagda kiya kya?
— sirprashm (@sirprashm) January 19, 2022One thing is for sure , dhawan's place in indian odi team will be vacant only when he decides to retire respectfully
— Yash Tyagi (@Yash_Tyagi_16) January 19, 2022Dhawan, addressing the media after the first ODI in Paarl, said that talks about his place in the side are always there but over the years, he has shifted his entire focus on preparing well before any game and has faith in his process.
"These talks (to drop him) always are there and I am used to it and I just know how to give my best and I always make sure that my preparation is quite good and the process is good and then I leave it on God,” Dhawan said at the post-match conference.
View this post on Instagram
"....and I know that with my experience and my self-confidence, I'll do good and I am happy that I did well today," the opening batter added.
Dhawan was the highlight of India’s reply as he smashed 10 boundaries en route to 79 off just 84 deliveries.
Apart from Dhawan, Kohli and Shardul Thakur too hit fifties but it wasn’t enough to get the team over the line.
That's that from the 1st ODI.
South Africa win by 31 runs.

After losing the Test series 1-2, India are now trailing in the ODI series and a loss on Friday will end their hopes of winning the white-ball leg of the tour.

As entertaining as Bollywood is, the problem with it is that it gives a ‘cult classic’ status to some of the most problematic films ever made. Take Kabir Singh for instance, the movie that acquired an immediate liking and popularity, despite being one of the most toxic films to be ever made.
And if we were to actually think back to other such kinds of problematic movies, the list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the 2003 release - Tere Naam.
via GIPHY
Usually, simply stating the fact that Salman Khan starred in it, is enough to get the point across. But this time, let’s dive in deeper to know just how many times I had to hit my head on the wall for my common sense to leave my body and this movie to register in my head as the shit-show it was.
© MD Productions
Radhe Mohan (Salman Khan) is a typical good for nothing spoilt brat. Not interested in studies, always bullying people and roaming around aimlessly in life with his friends. And if that was not enough, he also has a haircut that is physically painful to watch.
The only way he justifies his pointless existence is by occasionally beating up bad guys who try to harass women. And perhaps that’s the irony of the film, one that you will figure out as you read on.
© MD Productions
Enter Nirjara Bhardwaj, a student from his former college and the Indian prototype of a woman that is usually accepted and welcomed with open arms. Why? Because she is soft-spoken, timid, without a spine and knows how to not stand for what she wants.
Indian society and Radhe, both immediately fall in love with her at first sight. Whatte cliche!
© MD Productions
However, Radhe being the lunatic and hooligan he is, intimidates her and her fiance Rameshwar. He does so to the point that the woman finally speaks up and asks Radhe to f*ck off. Of course, he doesn’t, because societal conditioning has taught every man that the meaning of a ‘no’ is actually to try harder. Which is exactly what he does.
© MD Productions
In the meantime, Radhe gets involved in beating up guys who are trying to run a brothel in which, somehow, Nirjara’s sister gets involved. Radhe ends up beating quite a few goons and saving her sister, seeing which her father tells him how Radhe might actually be a nice and kind man at heart.
© MD Productions
Radhe, however, snaps back to his d*ck-self pretty damn soon, for he then kidnaps Nirjara to tell her how he feels for her. Because his funda is clear, ‘if you love her, you don’t let her go. Instead, you kidnap her and tie her in a remote place and threaten her for her life’. Real classy and romantic.
© MD Productions
He not only ties her up and keeps her in an abandoned warehouse of sorts, but also shouts at her and breaks down in front of her, scaring the shit out of her. However, love and Indian filmmakers being blind as they are, turn that super problematic moment into a romantic one.
Safe to say, consent is as lost in the movie as Nirjara’s conscience or agency to speak.
© MD Productions
Nirjara then finally falls into love with the seemingly psycho man and at the same time, glorifies this really f*cked up and toxic love story. Because that is just what Bollywood’s undertone for love stories is always is - glorifying toxicity and misogyny.
© MD Productions
But all's well, that doesn’t end well, because karma and the goons who were beaten up by Radhe, come back at lightning speed to take their sweet revenge.
© MD Productions
They beat the living shit out of Radhe, and we have to admit, it did make us feel sorry for the guy. Thrashing him up near the train tracks, they beat him to the point that he suffers thorough brain damage and is later admitted to a mental institution.
Nirjara keeps praying and waiting for him, and even when Radhe recovers, the wardens misunderstand him and beat him up instead.
© MD Productions
Convinced that there is no hope of Radhe being with Nirjara, his brother asks Nirjara to carry on with her life and marry her former fiance Rameshwar.
Somehow, on the day of the wedding, Radhe escapes the mental institution and crashes the wedding only to see that Nirjara has instead committed suicide.
© MD Productions
Because she would rather take her own life than marry someone else. Not that the option of staying unmarried wasn’t on the table, but for the sake of adding a tragic flare to the story, we are presented with a sob-fest of an ending.
© MD Productions
Radhe, completely broken after witnessing the death of Nirjara, willingly goes back to the institution despite his family pleading otherwise.
The movie ends as we see an old Radhe, still tying peacock feathers in Nirjara’s memory. And that is how, rage, toxicity and bullying, ends up ruining the lives of nearly everyone in the movie.
The End.

Every desi kid has at least a couple of relatives who just refuse to leave them alone.
From asking about how much you scored in high school to how much you’re earning, they are always behind your back, keeping a watch.
And, if you are blessed with even nosier rishtedaar, they would go even beyond to interfere and make your life a living hell.
© Yash Raj Films
A Reddit user shared his plight and all of us can relate.
He shared how the behaviour of his relatives changed when he secured a good job and a decent salary package. His cousins started acting jealous while some downright started asking him for money.
This sounds a bit too much, to be honest!
© iStock
He asked if others also disclose the amount they are earning to their relatives and how do they deal with such annoying people who won’t stop poking their nose in others’ business.
In response, many shared how they just refrain from sharing personal details like numbers while some said they simply lie about it.
Here are some of the best suggestions to deal with uncles and aunties and their annoying questions.
© Excel Entertainment
1. Keep It To Yourself“Nope never. I don't tell even my parent. Stopped doing it long back after getting tired of them discussing it with other people. I just don't understand why do they do it. It's nobody's business how much you earn.” —Disastrous_Mode6
2. Tell Them A Lower Figure"Don't tell your salary to any of your relatives. Even if you have to, tell them a number significantly less than what you actually earn. They will stop bothering you after that." —Corgitechy
© iStock
3. Keep It Cryptic & Respectful “I always go with "Rozi-roti chal jaati hai bus". Nothing more is divulged no matter how much they insist.” —toarin
“Nope. If they try to force me, I just reply "Enough for two-time meals." If they are still adamant I ask them for money.” —beard__hunter
4. Keep Healthy Boundaries “Only share if they share that information with you first and what you are comfortable with sharing. There have to be some boundaries in life! Boundaries don't mean you are disrespectful to your parents or relatives, just that some things are meant to be kept to yourself. It also keeps relationships healthy and long-lasting.” —PhD_in_progress
But does that work? If relatives understood the concept of boundaries and could let it go, we wouldn't be here having this discussion. Worth a try, maybe?
Or…
5. Tell It As Is & Watch Them Burn © Time Magnetic Pvt. Ltd.
“Yes do tell them with your shirt collars high...let them be jealous .haters gonna hate..be true to yourself bro. don't think too much” —appleslim73
At your own risk, though!

Padmaavat was a magnum opus which saw a lot of hurdles before its release. From swimming in controversies, long erratic shooting schedules to an elaborate budget, the movie was bound to be big after all. Talking about the star cast, Ranveer and Deepika did a fantastic job as usual but there was a certain section of the audience who marveled at the role of Rawal Ratan Singh, played well by Shahid Kapoor.
However, as per various reports, Shahid was not the first choice for this role. Turns out, the makers had approached Vicky Kaushal for this role and the actor was already considering it. Back in 2016, Vicky was just a few movies old but one can always trust the vision of a filmmaker like Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make an actor into a performer.
Reports suggest that it was actress Deepika Padukone who was not too keen to work with Vicky and wanted a bigger star to play the role of her husband. Since she had no major scenes with Khilji’s character, she insisted that a bigger name should be considered for the role of the king.

Later, as per a TOI report, Vicky was also being considered for a role in Shakun Batra’s Gehraiyaan which is now being essayed by Siddhant Chaturvedi.

You know that urge when you see someone famous and a part of you wants to go up to them and talk to them, and if you’re lucky, even get a picture or an autograph?
Turns out, that urge is no different for movie stars either, who too, have their fanboy/girl moment when they come across someone they really appreciate.
Like Keanu Reeves, for instance.
© CBS Studios
The film star, who has done iconic films like the Matrix series and John Wick and has his own pretty impressive fanbase, recently opened up about how he’s only ever asked two people for their autograph, of which one was awfully rude to him.
And between Lou Reed from Velvet Underground and George Carlin from Bill & Ted, we bet you can’t guess which one would it have been.
Having had given several hundred autographs to fans himself, Keanu recalls only being on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with the two people, to whom he nicely went up to for an autograph during a rapid-fire round.
© Orion Pictures
Keanu admitted that he needed Lou Reed’s signature for a friend and that Lou signed it right away, however, without any additional message. Whereas with George, things went down differently, considering he wrote ‘Fu*k You’, to Keanu instead.
Keanu shared, “I asked for another. George Carlin. Yeah, he gave me an autograph… It was really funny; he wrote, I think it was, 'Dear Keanu, F**k you!'" Reeves said with a smile, reflecting back on the comedian's personal note. "I always thought he just wrote that for me, and then I met someone else who said that he wrote the same thing to them! Anyway, beautiful."
© Keanu Reeves
Who would've thought that the big star would ask anyone for their autograph and be told this instead!
However, Keanu being Keanu took Carlin’s stint in good humour and laughed it off.

If you were one of the many fans excited about Tom Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home, you will have to admit, that now having seen the movie, it just feels like the start of something crazy.
I mean, I certainly do feel like a kid with all the things that are being talked about right now.
Now that we are past No Way Home, the next movie that we are super excited to watch is definitely Dr. Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness.
© Marvel Studios
Not only is it going to be another crazy Multiverse movie like NWH, but as per the latest rumours, fans could be treated to the return of some crazy superheroes and villains from the X-Men Universe, the old Spider-Man universes, and even the Fantastic Four.
And that's not it.
What's really amplifying the buzz around this movie is that it may pave way for a new Iron Man altogether, with Mission Impossible superstar Tom Cruise finally getting a crack at the role.
View this post on Instagram
Now, you must be thinking like me, how and why exactly would Marvel choose to replace someone like Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.
© Marvel Studios
I mean, come on! He's just irreplaceable and was the heartbeat of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe! So, why would you cast someone else in a role that can never, ever be replaced?
Well, looks like Marvel isn't really trying to do that at all.
Yes! Robert Downey's legacy as Tony Stark will stay intact for eternity. In fact, Tom Cruise's Iron Man will instead be a 'very different' Iron Man in the MCU Universe, if reports are to be believed.
According to reports, Tom's Iron Man will actually be a Variant Tony Stark from another universe, who will actually be kind of like an 'outcast'.
As per Moth Culture, Tom's Iron Man will even have a different suit as well as characteristics, making him different from Robert Downey Jr.
That's fair, right?
This was the tweet shared by them.
#DoctorStrange2
RUMOR: (Iron Man) controls the Iron Legion, having effectively put a suit of armor around the world. He wears the helmet most of the time, but lifts it for the reveal. He is a bit deranged & an outcast among the illuminati for his obsessive, controlling nature. pic.twitter.com/naoQsK04hv
— Moth Culture (@Moth_Culture) January 18, 2022
"(Iron Man) controls the Iron Legion, having effectively put a suit of armor around the world. He wears the helmet most of the time, but lifts it for the reveal. He is a bit deranged & an outcast among the Illuminati for his obsessive, controlling nature." said the Tweet.
Damn! If all this is actually true, I think we're certainly in for a heavy-duty movie in Dr. Strange: Multiverse Of Madness.
This combined with the fact that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man may actually be paired alongside Tom Hardy's Venom in a potential Spider-Man Vs Venom movie, is just a clear indication that the superhero fever is just getting hotter and hotter!

Vicky Kaushal got married to Katrina Kaif and even though none of us were invited, we ended up celebrating all the same as that's how loved and admired those two are. They deserve every bit of the happiness too, as they are adorable together.
View this post on Instagram
However, festivities mean break from workouts, and that holds true, even if you are Vicky Kaushal. However, Vicky is finally back to the gym after a brief hiatus, and posted a picture on Instagram.
View this post on Instagram
Even though his caption read 'Time to pay for those (fries emoji)', fans were quick to notice his bulging muscles, and the fact that he had not lost muscles at all despite not working out for a while.
via GIPHY
While everyone is wondering the same thing, we decided to explore this topic. It is in fact possible to maintain your muscle mass during a gym break. Keeping a leaf out of Vicky's book, here is how to maintain muscle mass / not lose muscle while not working out.
1. Eat enough protein © iStock
Even though you're not going to the gym, don't skimp on your proteins. Continue eating as much protein as you did while doing strenuous workouts. You may choose to alter the quantity a bit, but please don't stop focusing on your protein intake.
2. Bodyweight exercises © iStock
The human body is kind, and being on a gym break won't magically cause you to lose all your gains. However, to maintain that definition and mass, one needs to indulge in bodyweight workouts at home. If you already have some muscle and you continue doing bodyweight exercises indoors along with proper nutrition, it will be a long time before you even realize that you're actually on a gym break.
3. Adjust your calorie intake accordingly, especially carbs © iStock
While you can continue with the same diet, it's important to reassess the situation as during gym breaks and vacations, we often tend to binge on a lot more food, especially carbs, than we're used to. While technically that won't cause 'muscle loss', it can make you look like you have lost a lot of muscle by adding a layer of fat on top of your muscles. Quantifying your calories will make sure this doesn't happen.
4. Increasing volume, tempo, and reps © iStock
Because of no access to heavy weights and machines of the gym, your workouts will understandably suffer. But the damage can easily be minimized with mindful evaluation of your workout volume, tempo, and reps. Increasing all three will ensure that your muscle mass stays intact, till you're back to the gym again.
Moral of the story: A brief gym break will not make your muscles disappear. So go ahead and enjoy that vacation! Good luck!

After a critically acclaimed debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s Company, Vivek Oberoi was touted to be the next big thing but his career slumped soon after, more so for his off-screen controversies.
It was Sanjay Gupta’s 2007 cult gangster hit Shootout At Lokhandwala directed by Apoorva Lakhia that got Vivek Oberoi some much-needed success as well as critical acclaim.
The two soon decided to reunite for the Shootout sequel titled Shootout At Wadala.

However, this time, Vivek wasn’t offered the lead role like the prequel but a supporting character that was important to the proceeding.
While John Abraham was signed on to play gangster Manya Surve, Anil Kapoor as ACP Afaaque Baaghran and Vivek Oberoi as a character inspired by Dawood Ibrahim called Dilawar Imtiaz Haksar (later played by Sonu Sood).
But soon it was reported that Vivek Oberoi had walked out of the film and instead, signed on for another gangster role in Bejoy Nambiar’s David (he exited that film as well and the role was later played by Neil Nitin Mukesh.)
But Sanjay claimed that Vivek was dropped from the film. He said, “Ekta (Kapoor) and I sat together last week on the script and we thought we needed a bigger name for the role; someone who has a better box-office draw than Vivek and someone who can do justice to the role.”

He further lashed out at the actor for his “attitude” saying, “Well, one of the reasons we are keeping him off the project is his attitude towards work. On one hand, his secretary is discussing money and dates with my office and then he is in talks for another gangster film with another producer.”
He also vowed to never work with Vivek again saying, “So, now he has lost out on any future opportunities with White Feathers as well as with Balaji. We are serious filmmakers and we cannot work with someone who plays games. This is the reason he is where he is.”
Well, two years later, in 2014, the two reportedly buried the hatched and it was reported that Sanjay offered Vivek a role in Mumbai Saga.
A source had told Mid-Day, “Sanjay and Vivek bumped into each other recently at a wedding. The two talked at length at this do and decided to let bygones be bygones. They have now cleared the air between them and will be working together soon.”
The source further added, “Their relationship soured when Vivek walked out of Sanjay’s film, Shootout at Wadala. But now they have moved on. Sanjay wants to cast him in the film, Mumbai Saga.”
As we all know the two eventually couldn’t work together in Mumbai Saga as well.

However, things seem to be going great between the two as in 2020 Sanjay had publicly defended Vivek when someone called the actor a product of nepotism.
Sanjay tweeted, “What absolute nonsense. Do you have any idea what all he did to bag Ramu’s COMPANY? His Dad had no role to play in it. And his performance... definitely one of the best debuts of all time. @vivekoberoi”
Vivek had then responded to Sanjay Gupta’s tweet saying, “Thank you Gups for standing up for the truth. Many of us chose the harder path and believed in sheer talent and merit. It feels unfair when people make uninformed comments like this, one such comment can brush away years of struggle and perseverance.”

Sanjay Gupta is currently scripting Shootout 3, and who knows, we might see Vivek making a comeback to the franchise that, in a way, saved his career.

India lost the first One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa by 31 runs and are trailing 0-1 in the three-match series. The visitors now need to win on Friday to stay alive in the series.
Chasing a target of 297 for the win, India fell well short as South Africa bowlers managed to keep Indian batters in check throughout the 50 overs.
Despite losing their skipper KL Rahul early in the chase, India were in a commanding position as Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli stitched together a 92-run stand for the second wicket.
Hundred up for India!

India were 138 for two at the halfway mark but just as Kohli was dismissed, the Indian middle-order fell like ninepins.
Former India batter and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra lashed out at the batting coach Vikram Rathour for not taking responsibility for the batting decline that the team has witnessed in the past few years.
Without mincing words, Aakash Chopra asked the batting coach what is his role when the numbers of batters like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Kohli are consistently going down.

"Everyone has taken credit for India's bowling improvement. Some people gave credit to Virat Kohli, some to Bharat Arun, some to Ravi Shastri. Everyone said, 'Indian bowling has improved a lot'. But who is responsible for the batting decline? ... If you are taking credit then responsibility needs to be taken as well. The decline is palpable. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli's numbers have dipped in the last 2-2.5 years so where's the batting coach?," Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
"The batting coach has the responsibility and the buck has to stop somewhere. Vikram Rathour, who is with the team for quite some time, you need to look at him again whether he's doing his job well and if not then what are the shortcomings and how is he addressing them," Chopra added.

When the likes of Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun were relieved of their duties as head coach and bowling coach, Vikram Rathour received a contract extension.

It is not a new problem that Team India has struggled when the top-order has failed but even after spending years with the team and not being able to rectify that problem calls for a change.
Let’s hope the Indian board takes some tough calls or at least create a culture of accountability.

The first match of the India-South Africa ODI series ended with the sudden collapse of the Indian batting order after a phenomenal start provided by the 92-run partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. South Africa’s 296 proved to be too much to chase and many critics feel that the Indian bowling attack could have restricted the hosts well before that stage.
One of the biggest questions of the match was why didn’t KL Rahul make some space in the bowling lineup to fit in debutant Venkatesh Iyer, who has proven to be more than useful both with the bat and the ball in domestic cricket and during the Indian Premier League.

Cricket analysts like Sanjay Manjrekar had suggested having Iyer within the squad in order to add a sixth bowling option into the mix just in case the skipper needed some variety between the overs. Nonetheless, Iyer was not presented with the opportunity to roll his arm.
After the loss, Dhawan, who ended up becoming the leading scorer for the Men in Blue with 79 runs, attended the post-match conference where he kept it extremely real as to why wasn’t Iyer given the ball. According to Gabbar, Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal were doing a great job and the Men in Blue simply didn’t require Iyer’s assistance with the ball.

“We didn’t need him because the spinners did well and there was some turn in the wicket. Fast bowlers were mostly used at the end. In the middle-overs when the wicket was not falling, our thinking was to bring back the main bowlers to get the breakthrough but we couldn’t do that. Then, in the end, it was important to bring our main bowlers, like our spinners,” said Shikhar Dhawan in the post-match press conference.
Dhawan has been around the Indian dressing room for over 12 years now. He has seen a lot of young players come into the team and get replaced by someone better right in front of his eyes. Based on all those years of experience, the 36-year-old had some special advice for the young-bloods of the squad who are looking to make a name for themselves - the team comes first, always.

“That you need to play according to the demands of the situation, should always put the team first, that your individual game is important but at the same time practicality and knowing how much you can mould your game for the team is also important. Like if the team needs a partnership, then you should build one and those kind of things. And I feel that it will all get refined with time and experience,” he added.
Venkatesh Iyer did not get the start to his international career that he would have hoped for. Walking down the pitch to bat at the number six spot and under a lot of pressure to deliver for the team and the country, the 27-year old only managed to face seven deliveries and score two runs before being sent by a Rassie van der Dussen catch in the deep off a Lungi Ngidi delivery.
