The Amar Jawan Jyoti, also known as the ‘eternal flame’, was lit in 1972 after the 1971 war, at the India Gate, to honour the soldiers who laid their lives during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
It was inaugurated by the then prime minister, Indira Gandhi, on January 26, 1972, and from then to now, had been lit for 50 long years.
After 50 years , The Eternal Flame , Amar Jawan Jyoti At India Gate Will be Extinguished Tomorrow.

— Shreya Dhoundial (@shreyadhoundial) January 20, 2022
Hailed as a symbol of strength, courage and a true and immortal soldier, the Amar Jawan Jyoti has always been able to extract the true patriotic emotion of every Indian. Perhaps, that is why, when news about it being reportedly 'extinguished' made rounds on the internet, it sparked a big row.
The centre had recently made a decision to merge the eternal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti with the National War Memorial on Friday. A decision that enraged a lot of people, including leaders from the opposition.
— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) January 21, 2022
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted on the matter saying, “It is a matter of great sadness that the immortal flame that used to burn for our brave soldiers will be extinguished today. Some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice – never mind… We will once again light the Amar Jawan Jyoti for our soldiers!”
This government has no respect for democratic tradition & established convention, whether in parliament or out of it. The sanctity acquired after fifty years of the Amar Jawan Jyoti is being lightly snuffed out:https://t.co/d918XjfntF So everything must be reinvented post-2014?!
— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) January 21, 2022
And supporting the claim was Congress MP Shashi Tharoor who said, “This government has no respect for democratic tradition & established convention, whether in parliament or out of it. The sanctity acquired after fifty years of the Amar Jawan Jyoti is being lightly snuffed out… So everything must be reinvented post-2014?!”
Constructed as a memorial for Indian soldiers, who were martyred in action in the 1971 war, the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame, which has been burning for 50 years, will be extinguished today.

— Vipin Vijayan (@Vipin_Vijayan_) January 20, 2022As a former IAF fighter pilot, felt sad to read about the 50 year flame at India gate, in honour of the martyrs of 1971 war being extinguished.
Highly inappropriate! Most countries have several war memorials!! No need to extinguish existing Amar Jawan Jyoti!!#AmarJawanJyoti pic.twitter.com/C379FkY2Ol
— Uttam Kumar Reddy (@UttamINC) January 21, 2022Meanwhile, people on Twitter also showed their resentment towards this decision as they wrote comments like, “Was it really needed? Amar Jawan Jyoti has a special emotional connect with a generation of Indians.” In fact, people on Twitter are calling today a ‘dark day’ in history.

— Shreya Dhoundial (@shreyadhoundial) January 21, 2022Thread
There is a lot of misinformation circulating regarding the flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti.
Here is the correct perspective:
The flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti is not being extinguished. It is being merged with the flame at the National War Memorial. 1/n pic.twitter.com/7ZGSCZeZP8
— Sambit Patra (@sambitswaraj) January 21, 2022People who have never even paused to read about the sacrifices of our soldiers and can’t name 2 PVCs are crying over relocating of Amar Jawan Jyoti like they were personally invested in it. If you really want to pay respects, walking next door to War memorial is hardly an issue.
— Maj Manik M Jolly,SM (@Manik_M_Jolly) January 21, 2022 Retd General Ashok Mehta said while speaking to The Indian Express, “The Congress will obviously oppose (the decision) because the Amar Jawan Jyoti came up during their time. But with the War Memorial now in place, it does not make sense to have two separate flames to commemorate soldiers. It is the right choice to merge the flames and have only one place for it. The (BJP) government has taken a political call to see it (Amar Jawan Jyoti) as a colonial structure, otherwise they could have built a memorial around it as well.”
It is ironic that people who did not make a National War Memorial for 7 decades are now making a hue and cry when a permanent and fitting tribute is being made to our martyrs#AmarJawanJyoti
— Vikas Bhadauria (@vikasbha) January 21, 2022#WATCH| "There should be no politics on the merger of Amar Jawan Jyoti & National War Memorial. It has become a trend to give a political angle to every initiative done by the Centre: 1971 war veteran and former Army Dy Chief Lt Gen JBS Yadava (Retd) pic.twitter.com/G2hlorvVfB
— ANI (@ANI) January 21, 2022 Those who support the stance on Twitter are saying things like, “It is ironic that people who did not make a National War Memorial for 7 decades are now making a hue and cry when a permanent and fitting tribute is being made to our martyrs.”
A needless controversey is being created.
The flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti is being merged with that of National War Memorial;it is not being extinguished.
NWM is the designated war memorial at National level to pay homage all Indias Bravehearts, past present or future.
Hear my take https://t.co/n4Zdu7VpED
— Lt Gen Satish Dua (@TheSatishDua) January 21, 2022
Another user also commented, “People who have never even paused to read about the sacrifices of our soldiers and can’t name 2 PVCs are crying over relocating of Amar Jawan Jyoti like they were personally invested in it. If you really want to pay respects, walking next door to War memorial is hardly an issue.”
The National War Memorial, which was built by the NDA Government in the India Gate complex and was inaugurated in 2019, has the names of all the Indian defence personnel who lost their lives in the many operations; from the 1947-48 Indo-Pak war to the recent Galwan valley clash with Chinese troops. Names of many other bravehearts who also lost lives in counter-terrorist operations are also included in the memorial.

Two of the regular members of the Indian cricket team, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are all set to become the latest additions to the BCCI’s A+ level annual contracts which would give them Rs. 7 crore per year just for being a part of the team.
This money would be in addition to the match fee they will get for playing in the various formats of the game and the Indian Premier League contracts that they signed with their respective franchises.
"KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant all set to move to Grade A+ Category List (7 Crores). And they join Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in the List of Grade A+." - According to PTI
— CricketMAN2 (@man4_cricket) January 20, 2022
KL Rahul, India's opening batsman, has matured as a player and is widely regarded as India's future captain. He has been a regular member of India's white-ball team for a long time, and he has now also established himself as a regular opener in Test cricket. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Rahul had even commanded the Indian Test team.
However, some of the fans of the Men in Blue feel as if there were other members in the team who deserved to be higher in the order and should have gotten the A+ deal way before Rahul and Pant got it.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who has had an incredible resurgence of his career in all three formats of the game, and Team India’s most in-demand all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are the two cricketers fans were backing up the most for.
KL Rahul getting A+ ahead of a Jadeja or Ashwin is poor
— Srini (@softsignalout) January 21, 2022Ashwin and Jadeja deserve it more than KL and Pant. Don't know the logic behind this. Pant atleast deserves. But KL? Seriously?? Till now no one is having any idea how they made him Captain. Now A+. Make him BCCI president next time.
— Sumeet Kumar Parida (@ParidaSumeet) January 20, 2022Ashwin deserves more than Anybody else he was in the Bio bubble since WTC final and has been Playing for India in all formats now .One of the Main spinner for India and has not been given A+ category Woah.Every other got out of biobubble in atleast one series.
— shashank sri (@ravia123ash) January 20, 2022What about Jadeja the most deserving candidate for A+
— joe (@joe101288) January 20, 2022I feel, @ashwinravi99 , @imjadeja deserves A+. Pant is overrated and overhyped. KL Rahul deserves A category.
— KTHX (@Kthx82929465) January 20, 2022Both Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are currently on the BCCI’s A-category contract which entitles them to Rs. 5 crore annually. At the moment, only three other players have the A+category contacts namely the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, the current white-ball captain Rohit Sharma and the leader of the Indian bowling attack Jasprit Bumrah.
Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are also holding the A-Category contacts and by the looks of it, they will continue to be in the same category for the 2022-23 session as well.
The 2021 Contract ListGrade A+: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah
Grade A: Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Mohd. Shami, Ishant Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya
Grade B: Wriddhiman Saha, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Agarwal
Grade C: Kuldeep Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Md. Siraj.

Goldmines Telefilms head Manish Shah is currently basking in the huge success of the Hindi dubbed version of Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rise.
While the original Telugu film is backed by Mythri Movie Makers, the rights of its Hindi version are with Goldmines Telefilms. For the unversed, Goldmines Telefilms YouTube channel is India’s fourth-largest in terms of subscriptions.
It is also instrumental in releasing most of the South Indian films in dubbed Hindi versions for North Indian audiences.
© Sippy Films
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Manish Shah opened up about how he started with the Hindi dubbed release of Nagarjuna’s Telugu hit Mass (Meri Jung: One Man Army in Hindi) and since then there was no looking back for him.
Besides holding the Hindi rights of most of the South Indian films, Shah also owns the rights to the Amitabh Bachchan starrer cult hit Sooryavansham. The film was a flop at the box office but over the years has become one of the most-watched films and frequently airs on TV.
© Sri Surya Movies
While talking about the huge success of Sooryavansham on satellite, Manish Shah went on to reveal that the Amitabh Bachchan starrer is among the top five biggest films on TV of all time.
Besides Sooryavansham (1999), the other four films he named in the list include Sholay (1975), Nayak (2001), Taarzan: The Wonder Car (2004) and Singham (2011).
© Baba Films
He said, “(Sooryansham) is an evergreen movie. If you ask the top 5 films on the satellite of all time, the answer is Sholay, Nayak, Sooryavansham, Taarzan: The Wonder Car and Singham .”
The interesting thing to note here is that Sholay is one of the biggest blockbusters of all time and Singham is a super hit, the other three films in the top 5 list - Sooryavansham, Nayak & Taarzan: The Wonder Car were huge flops.
© Reliance Entertainment
Another interesting fact is that out of the top five films, two feature Amitabh Bachchan and two feature Ajay Devgn (he was literally the driving force of Taarzan: The Wonder Car).

KL Rahul, India’s stand-in captain in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, has been receiving a lot of flak for his ‘poor captaincy’ in the series opener at Boland Park, Paarl.
It was Rahul’s first match as India’s captain in the 50-over format and naturally, he would have experienced some jitters going into the match.
Some of the decisions he made during South Africa’s batting, like field placement and bowling changes, raised huge eyebrows.
View this post on Instagram
But, given it was his ODI captaincy debut, not many fans pointed fingers at him and were ready to give him another chance
On the contrary, some experts were in no mood to cut him slack.
Disappointed with India’s loss in the series opener, former India cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Gautam Gambhir and Aakash Chopra all came hard at the 29-year-old cricketer and questioned his tactics during the game.
View this post on Instagram
While Gambhir and Chopra weren’t convinced with the various tactics that Rahul deployed in the first ODI, Gavaskar went a step ahead and launched a personal attack against the Karnataka star and questioned his acumen to lead the Indian team.
Finding fault in his appointment as India’s limited-overs captain for the series, the legendary batter argued that the right-handed opener didn’t have much experience when it came to leading a team.
© Reuters
The ‘Little Master’ opined that prior to his stint with Punjab Kings, the opener had zero experience of leading a cricket team as he had never captained his state team Karnataka in either Ranji Trophy or List A cricket.
“Rahul doesn't have much experience of captaincy. He has only captained Punjab Kings in the last two IPLs. Apart from that, in any format tournament - Ranji Trophy or List A. That's why you need to have patience when you think of him as captain. Even if you look at his captaincy in IPL, Punjab Kings haven't done anything on note in the last two years,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.
“During that (Bevuma-Van der Duseen) partnership, it did look as if he had run out of ideas. KL Rahul didn't know where to go. When you have your two-most experienced death-overs bowlers in Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar, you have to keep them for the last 5-6 overs. So that's where you can actually stop the opposition from running away with a big score.
View this post on Instagram
“But these are early days of his captaincy and maybe things will turn around. Let's hope for Indian cricket's sake that things turn around in the next couple of days,” he said while reflecting on the match-winning partnership between South Africa skipper Temba Bevuma and Rassie Van der Dussen.
The fans were clearly not pleased with Gavaskar putting a question mark on Rahul’s leadership capabilities after just one bad game. Many supporters thought that as much as the stand-in skipper, it was Dravid’s fault as well because he failed to give the new skipper the kind of support he needed to change things around.
It's easy to blame @klrahul11 for everything, why not blame Rahul Dravid for poor strategy. His role is more important when we have a new captain. Is this the way this transition is going to be managed?
— Rinkun (@iamrinkun) January 21, 2022Both have to be blamed, why blame KL only. No one is actually talking about Dravid's roles here. He being an ex-captain and hd coach has a lot of responsibility to hand hold a new captain. If only the captains get credits, they why are coaches sacked for poor performance.
— Rinkun (@iamrinkun) January 21, 2022How could the veteran cricketer and commentator explain then he's using his intelligence to position Pant as captain for Team India? Pant is young, raw and lacks experience. He hasn't even done his job better behind stumps.
— GK (@metadoors) January 21, 2022 On many occasions, Gavaskar has expressed his desire to see young Rishabh Pant becoming the captain of the national team at some point in time.
Some supporters felt that with his harsh criticism he was sowing the seeds of doubts in the minds of national selectors so that they don’t hand him the red-ball captaincy.
Only Gavaskar can tell if he has any ulterior motives or not. But what can be said for sure is that his logic that a player can’t become a good captain just because he doesn’t have enough captaincy experience at the domestic level is totally nonsense.

Humour me for a second and imagine having a great, life-changing and profit-making idea in mind. One that you know in your gut will work out just fine and probably get you closer to where you want to be in life.
Now, imagine someone actually believes in your dream (and no, not your parents) but someone with a sound knowledge of business.
Sounds too good to be true, right? That is exactly what went on in the mind of Jugaadu Kamlesh when he showed up at the stage of Shark Tank India with his unique idea and a whole lotta passion.
Kamlesh Nanasaheb Ghumare aka Jugaadu Kamlesh recently appeared on Shark Tank India with his partner Naru and pitched an idea to the 7 sharks in the panel.
He came up with a Pesticides Spray solution, one that would help the agricultural sector.
With nearly no professional degree but with a passion burning bright as ever, Kamlesh put every ounce of belief and desire to come up with a solution for the farmers to be able to spray pesticides, sow seeds and transport goods with the help of a versatile bicycle.
© Shark Tank India
Kamlesh and his partner had come up with an affordable, low-maintenance and innovative product that was well thought out and understood the plight of farmers in the agricultural sector.
And while the scale of operations was not as grand as others, Peyush Bansal, the co-founder and CEO of Lenskart, didn’t miss out on the opportunity of investing in it.
To a new beginning... pic.twitter.com/zA9urOytYX
— Peyush Bansal (@peyushbansal) January 20, 2022
Peyush Bansal ended up offering the young entrepreneur from Malegaon a deal for 10 lakhs for 40% equity and 20 lakhs in debt for his business venture.
And with that, gave him the break of a lifetime.
Not to say, he impressed Twitter with his vision and choice to invest, who are now having a fan moment for both Kamlesh and Peyush Bansal.
One user wrote, “Peyush Bansal investor in shark time show is really a great business man he invest 30 lakhs to the very ordinary guy mr.kamlesh who is farmer of Malegaon (Maharashtra) and inventor of spray bike,I salute Mr.Bansal.”
I was totally flabbergasted when Peyush Bansal gave the offer to Jugadu Kamlesh in Shark Tank. Because there are very less entrepreneurs who invest their money for a social cause. You supported the builders of our nation - Kisan

Kamlesh's pitch is the no.1 pitch till now for me in Shark Tank India. When the guy said ,"Yaha tk aa gya hu vohi bhot bdi baat h" it tells you a lot about his struggle. Well done @peyushbansal you were always my fav shark.#SharkTankIndia#SharkTankIndiaOnSonyTV

Thanks to Mr. @peyushbansal for supporting a young boy Kamlesh Ghumare @SharkTankIndia_ working for the betterment of Farmers. This guy has been working from last 7 years on his project. He earned it.

Our main objective is to reduce the pain of the farmers, on whose shoulders the burden of more than 100 crore population of the country. I would like to express my gratitude to Piyush Bansal sir, who reposed faith in our product and gave us such a great deal. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most stellar actors that we have in the industry today and every time he takes up a role, he makes sure that he gives in his 100 per cent to make sure the character looks larger than life and more convincing on the screen.
Keeping up with his grounded persona, Nawaz has been rather brutally honest with his responses in interviews. He is seen as one of the actors who gave voice to Indian shows and movies on the OTT giants like Netflix but he has decided to not to be a part of the web shows as the quality has completely deteriorated.
View this post on Instagram
He had talked about his decision back in 2021 and in a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, he has again shared why he has taken this decision.
He said that the PR machinery works on promoting the show way too much and makes it look like every show has meaningful content and he doesn’t want to be a part of that herd mentality. “Today, there are many web series being made. Because of the marketing and public relations machinery that goes into promoting them, har series ki tareef ki ja rahi hai. This causes a lot of confusion about which series are truly good and which aren’t,” said Nawaz.
View this post on Instagram
Elaborating on his decision, he said, “A lot of actors have now forayed into that space, but I’m not someone who believes in herd mentality. Mera zameer yeh gawaara nahin karta. Having said that, I’m open to doing web films because it gives an actor a global platform.”
He also added, “It was a conscious decision to try my hands at multiple genres. I don’t want to do the same kind of films, because it bores me. This year, I really wanted to concentrate on love stories.”
View this post on Instagram
We agree with his few viewpoints wherein he has rightly pointed out that quantity has trumped quality. Do you agree with his statements? Let us know in the comments section below.
In 2022, he will be seen in five films, starting with Jogira Sara Ra Ra and Tiku Weds Sheru to Adbhut, Sangeen, and Heropanti 2. While he plays the lead role in Jogira Sara Ra Ra and Tiku Weds Sheru, he will be seen in the support cast in the other three films.

Virat Kohli stepped down as Test captain last week but fans and experts are still trying to decode the reason behind the 33-year-old’s decision.
Some feel it was his rift with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly and the management while some believe he wants to focus on his batting as it has been two years since Kohli had hit a century in international cricket.
Virat Kohli’s former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate and ex-England batter Kevin Pietersen has now given his take on what could be the logic behind such a massive call from the prolific Indian batter.
View this post on Instagram
Pietersen reasoned that modern-day players go through a lot with bio-bubbles and matches being played behind closed doors. He added that it becomes difficult for entertainers, which Kohli is, to perform as these things are difficult for their personalities.
"People who are critical of the modern-day sportsmen I think are foolish because these bio-bubbles are very hard to play in," Pietersen was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
"It will be very unfair to be too harsh, to be critical. Because you have not looked at Virat Kohli. Kohli needs crowds, he gets going (from it), he is an entertainer. I think it's very difficult for his personality to perform to the best of his (Kohli's) abilities (in the bubble),” he added.
View this post on Instagram
Pietersen has spent years with Kohli in the same dressing room during his stint with RCB and he understands the former Indian skipper’s mindset.
He added that while many people feel playing cricket is the greatest job in the world, when you put individuals in a bio-bubble scenario, it becomes really difficult to go out there and perform.
"A lot of players have suffered. It is the greatest job in the world. But when you put them in a bubble, it's certainly not the greatest job because there is no fun," the 41-year-old further added.
And we have all seen how Kohli gets the crowd behind his side whenever the team starts to drop shoulders on the field.
The BCCI is yet to decide who will be Kohli’s successor in the longest format of the game but his fans are more eagerly waiting for his 71st century which can come on Friday when India take on South Africa in the second ODI.
Courage, Passion, Grit & Determination!
Thank you, @imVkohli! #TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/q36KXhiJac
— BCCI (@BCCI) January 15, 2022
Well, whatever the reason might be behind Kohli quitting captaincy, I guess we are speaking for every Virat Kohli fan out there when we say that all we want is for him to again start dominating with the bat and score hundreds for fun like he used to do a couple of years back.

Recently, the promo of the upcoming episode of The Kapil Sharma Show was released online, and it teased a number of noted poets as guests including Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fame Shailesh Lodha.
However, as soon as the promo was released, people started trolling the actor and poet for showing double standards. It so happened that a few years ago at a Kavi Sammelan, Shailesh had criticised Kapil Sharma’s comedy show without naming it.
He had called the show “phoohad” and had stated that he is ashamed of it and will never do a show like that where he has to ask his daughter at home to not watch it.

The same clip from Kavi Sammelan has now resurfaced on social media.
In the clip, Lodha can be heard saying, “Main kuch karyakram dekhta hoon toh mujhe sharam aati hai. Ek dadi jo har vyakti ko chumna chahti hain, ek aisi bua jo shadi ke liye betab hain, ek pati jo apni patni ko pratarit karta hai. Main us karyakram mein kaam karta hoon jismeini ek beta har baat ke liye apne baap ke pair choota hai. (I am ashamed of some shows where a grandmother wants to kiss everyone, an aunt that is desperate for marriage and a husband who humiliates his wife in front of others. I work in a show where a son takes his father’s blessing for any work he does.)”

Reacting to the hypocrisy of Shailesh Lodha, one user responded, “@shailesh_lodha kapil sharma ke show me jane ke baad aapne apne ghar me jake kya bola show dekhna hai ya nhi dekhna hai? (After going to the Kapil Sharma Show, what are you going to tell your family members? To watch it or to not watch it).”

Another wrote, “इसी को कहते यू टर्न मारना (This is called taking a U-turn)”. One comment read, “Wow, Mr @shaileshlodha2in @KapilSharmaK9 show, a person who criticize him all the way on TV related to his comedy, and now he is coming as a guest in Kapil's show. Sir where are your ethics. Why you don't stand on your own words. #kapilsharmashow #shaileshlodha.”

— ASHISH SHARMA (@ashishcma) January 20, 2022@shailesh_lodha congrats for being on #TKSS. Hope you enjoyed being ashamed of yourself #badewachan
— Himanshu Goyal (@jontygoyal) January 21, 2022@shailesh_lodha जिस शो की एक समारोह में बेईज्जती की थी, उसी शो में हाजिरी क्या अपनी बेईज्जती करवाने लगाई!
— Tejas Kulkarni (@iamTejas_India) January 21, 2022 A few others also reminded him that on his show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, the lead character Jethalal often flirts with his neighbour’s wife Babita ji.
Aap Ki show is liye famous hai k jetha lal & Babita ka chemistry hai...
— Shoban (@Shoban_47) January 20, 2022Jetha dusre ki bivi babita se line marta hai
— MAHEMUDKHAN PATHAN (@mehmood70839299) January 20, 2022 One user also pointed out that Shailesh, in the viral clip, was criticising Kapil’s previous show Comedy Nights With Kapil and not The Kapil Sharma Show.
Just to clear, it was about comedy nights with Kapil, not Kapil Sharma show. Characters are different there.
— Anshul Jain (@anshuljn26) January 21, 2022 The episode featuring Shailesh Lodha will air this weekend.
