After taking some time off acting, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is finally making his much-awaited comeback to films with the upcoming Pathan.

However, there is one small problem that is holding him back from making a comeback sooner.

    Covid!
With the third wave of Covid-19 striking again on India's shores, the problem is that it has even affected the shooting of the film like it had already been doing earlier.
Now, with cinema halls across the countries already shut and shooting schedules hampered, it looks like Shah Rukh's Pathan too will be affected.

However, it's not just the SRK movie that is going to face the brunt of this.

It's Shah Rukh's friend and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan too, who might have a problem with it.
    © BCCL
Salman is set to appear in Pathan in a big cameo role and is reported to team up with Shah Rukh in a big climax scene that will have the duo fight off John Abraham, who is apparently the villain in the film.

    So, where's the problem?
Well, as things turn out, Salman Bhai has his own Tiger 3 film to release, and with Pathan's shooting getting delayed, reports suggest that it will also affect the third instalment of the Tiger franchise.
    © YRF
According to Bollywood Hungama, Tiger's release will be affected because its story is interlinked with Pathan's.

“Pathan has been a taxing film for everyone as, despite all the planning, the shoot kept getting delayed for some reason or the other – ranging from Covid scare to issues in personal life to the injuries. If Pathan is wrapped up by March, Yash Raj Films will take around four to five months to complete the post-production process and release the film only by the end of 2022. And this in turn is resulting in the delay of Salman’s Tiger 3 release too co-starring Katrina Kaif. The Maneesh Sharma directorial can’t release until the arrival of Pathan, as the two stories are interlinked,” the report quoted a source saying.
“So, while Tiger 3 shoot started in March 2021, it was planned as a film that will arrive 3 months after Pathan. The shoot of Tiger 3 was more or less uninterrupted with minor delays caused by 2nd wave. The film will now be wrapped up by January 2022 and since it’s shot at real locations too, not much needs to be done on the VFX front. The makers can have the final edit of Tiger out by Summer 2022, but the catch lies in Pathan.” said the source.
As per reports, YRF is planning to release Pathan in October 2022 with Salman's Tiger 3 getting a Christmas release.
However, with the Covid problems, there are reports that the releases could be pushed further.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad for the 2022 Women’s ODI Cup to be played in New Zealand in a couple of months’ time.
Veteran Mithali Raj, who has already announced that this multi-nation event will be her final swansong, has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the squad.
Besides Mithali, the usual suspects like Jhulan Goswami, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have also been included in the team.

But more than who has been included in the side, people are outraged over the omission of a couple of key players like young middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues and experienced all-rounder Shikha Pandey.
While the BCCI’s press release didn’t mention any reason as to why they were dropped from the World Cup squad, reports in multiple media outlets are claiming that the selectors took the call owing to their poor form in the last calendar year.
Both Jemimah and Shikha have been part of the Indian women’s team for quite some time and nobody actually anticipated that they would be axed from a major tournament like the World Cup.
The Indian women cricketers don’t get as much exposure as their male counterparts anyway, and that’s the reason why they stumble at the last roadblock in major ICC events.
Twice in the last four years, we have seen our players run riot in the group stage of the tournament but crumble under pressure when it mattered the most in the knock-out stage.
It happened during the last edition of the women’s ODI World Cup where our athletes went down fighting to hosts England in the final and the same thing happened in the 2019 Women’s T20 World Cup where we were completely blown away by the hosts Australia in front of a packed MCG crowd.
The only way to solve this issue was to back our experienced campaigners for the marquee event but the selectors went in a completely different direction while picking the squad.
Not many had anticipated them to shut the door on two of the most talented players in the country and that’s why when this news broke out, it created a huge outrage on social media, with fans demanding explanations about their strange selection criteria that led to their omission.
    Wtfff??? Jemimah kyu nhi??
    — विSH (@vishalmarathe45) January 6, 2022Shikha deserves a place imo. She's been incredible.
    — Siddhi (@Sectumsempra187) January 6, 2022I really cannot find logic for them omitting Shikha Pandey. In NZ conditions, Shikha can be such a valuable person in the squad no? #Cricket
    — Cow Corner (@CowCorner183) January 6, 2022Genuinely baffled how Shikha Pandey and Jemimah Rodrigues are not even a part of the standy by squad for the World Cup after their performances in England and Australia.
    — Sa. Gomesh | ச. கோமேஷ் (@theumpires_call) January 6, 2022Shikha Pandey dropped? The feeder system must be brimming with talent that’s impossible to ignore. It’s shocking to say the least.
    — Shashank Kishore (@captainshanky) January 6, 2022Not sure how you can drop Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey from the World Cup squad. Either we have unearthed a goldmine of talent suddenly, or there has been a mistake
    — Hemant (@hemantbuch) January 6, 2022India have not picked Shikha Pandey for a ODI World Cup to be played in New Zealand.

    Jemimah Rodrigues is also out.
As is Punam Raut while Ekta Bisht is in back-up.

Gambles aplenty from last edition's finalists, going for a largely young & inexperienced squad. https://t.co/D0njlSo0Dm
    — Zenia D'cunha (@ZENIADCUNHA) January 6, 2022I’m only wondering what awfully went wrong in order for both Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey to be in the reserves, too… It’s a World Cup we’re talking about and not just any other bilateral series! #WCWC2022
    — S. Sudarshanan (@Sudarshanan7) January 6, 2022Not just in India, Shikha is arguably one of the most skilful fast bowlers in world cricket as far as women’s cricket is concerned, and people couldn't understand with what logic the selectors decided to overlook her.
    A major blow for India's chances without Shikha Pandey imho#CWC22 #CricketTwitter pic.twitter.com/AHKRFiAA9h
    — V (@testaahebest) January 6, 2022
The most baffling thing was that the selection panel left her out despite knowing that the tournament would be played in New Zealand where her skill sets could have come in really handy.

Similarly, 21-year-old Jemimah is one of the most promising young batters in the world and she has shown what she is capable of playing in different parts of the world.
Those who follow women’s cricket know that she is one of the most dangerous batters in the world and she can affect the outcome of the game single-handedly.

By naming up a fairly young and inexperienced squad, the selectors have taken a big gamble. It’s like a double-edged sword. If it works, the world calls you a visionary, and if it doesn’t, you end up becoming a laughing stock.

We pray and hope that the team does well and they don’t have to regret their decision.
    ICC Women's World Cup 2022:
Mithali Raj (capt), Harmanpreet Kaur (VC), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wk), Sneh Rana, Jhulan Goswami, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Renuka Singh Thakur, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Poonam Yadav.

Anushka Sharma is all set to return to cinemas after 3 years and she has recently announced her upcoming movie, Chakda Xpress. She will be seen playing the role of Jhulan Goswami, a Bengali cricketer, who was the captain of the India national women's cricket team.
    View this post on Instagram
The movie is surely important as we will get to see the story of a woman cricketer but a section of people is not impressed with the teaser. People on social media have pointed out how Bollywood has messed it up in picking up the right actor for the role.
We all have an idea that there are certain stereotypes that Bollywood still has to shun and people are pissed because they feel that the producer and director should have opted for a dark-skinned actress to portray the role of Jhulan. They also mentioned that Anushka is not the right fit for the role as she is unable to pick the Bengali accent and their height also doesn't matter. A few users went on to suggest that Bipasha Basu or Esha Gupta would have been the right choice for the character.
    Here are the reactions:

As per a PR handout, Ansuhka talked about playing the role and told how the movie will be an eye-opener into the world of women's cricket. She said, “It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket. At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport. This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women’s cricket.”
    View this post on Instagram
She elaborated, “From support systems, to facilities, to having a stable income from playing the game, to even having a future in cricket – very little propelled women of India to take up cricket as a profession. Jhulan had a fighting and extremely uncertain cricketing career and she stayed motivated to make her country proud. She strived to change the stereotype that women can’t make a career out of playing cricket in India so that the next generation of girls had a better playing field. Her life is a living testimony that passion and perseverance triumphs over any or all adversities and Chakda Xpress is the most definitive look into the not so rosy world of women’s cricket back then. There is still a lot of work to be done and we have to empower them with the best so that the sport can flourish for women in India.

She went on to add, “We should all salute Jhulan and her team-mates for revolutionizing women’s cricket in India. It is their hard work, their passion and their undefeated mission to bring attention to women’s cricket that has turned things around for generations to come.  As a woman, I was proud to hear Jhulan’s story and it is an honour for me to try and bring her life to audiences and cricket lovers. As a cricketing nation, we have to give our women cricketers their due. Jhulan’s story is truly an underdog story in the history of cricket in India and the film is our celebration of her spirit."

Jhulan Goswami added, “When you represent India, that’s all that is on your mind. Tum desh ke liye khel rahe ho, apne liye nahi. 11 women playing to place Team India’s name in history. It doesn’t matter if they say ladkiyan cricket nahi khel sakti.
It doesn’t matter if sometimes a man’s accomplishments are placed above your own. It doesn’t matter if the stadiums are empty. When you pull up on to the pitch to bowl, all you see is the opponent holding the cricket bat and the stumps you need to knock out. It’s this level of unblinking focus that lends itself to success. That, and remembering that you’re here not in spite of everything that went wrong, but because of everything that went right. It’s about knowing one’s place in the world and having one’s feet firmly on the ground. You deserve to be here. And this is only the beginning.”
    Excited about the movie?

When Jasprit Bumrah was first spotted by the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, he was a young lad who couldn’t grow a proper beard but had the potential to dominate the game across all formats of the game.
Regardless of whatever was happening on the field, Bumrah somehow managed to keep the ever-pleasing smile on his face. Be it the umpires missing out on a plum of a call or one of his teammates dropping a dolly, the pacer stayed calm and rarely frowned.

Soon enough, his happy face became a benchmark for the emphatic Indian cricket fans on social media who started making jokes and memes about how the unorthodox bowler stuck to his demeanour even under the most stressful situations, but all those jokes were out of the love and comfort of seeing their favourite bowler ever-so-joyous expressions.
But then, a couple of months ago, something changed in the 28-year-old when he started butting heads with England’s Jos Butler on Day 5 of the Lord’s Test.
While the initial reason for the exchange between the two international cricketers was unknown, the fact that Bumrah stood his ground and confronted an opposing cricketer seemed to stun a lot of the fans.

Some welcomed this change with open arms were others stuck with the narrative of cricket being the game of gentlemen and criticised the Indian pacer for lowering his standards.
Now, once again, during the second Test match between India and South Africa, Bumrah found himself in the middle of a similar situation and reacted the same way.
After sustaining multiple hits off bouncers being delivered by the Protea series debutant and Mumbai Indians teammate, Marco Jansen while batting as a tailender, Bumrah walked up to him in frustration and shared a few words of competition himself.

And once again, people, including some of the popular faces of international cricket like Dale Steyn and Sanjay Manjrekar expressed their issues with the way Bumrah behaved.
On Twitter, for instance, South African legend Steyn responded to a post about the angry looks being exchanged between Jansen and Bumrah while criticising the latter for not being able to take the hits with a cool and calm head.
I swear I remember Bumrah doing the same thing to a Mr James Anderson not too long ago.
    Learn to take it kid.
    — Dale Steyn (@DaleSteyn62) January 5, 2022
“This anger thing is interesting. It happened in England as well. I don’t like this side of Bumrah. It’s a side of Bumrah I don’t want to see too much of. I like it when things get really hot, he has a smile on his face, like he usually does,” Manjrekar said in an interaction with ESPNcricinfo.
To look at Bumrah getting angry is definitely something new and it is a human tendency to not be okay when things change. However, for famed cricketers like Steyn, who is a pacer, and has had his share of arguments, to call him out like that is highly unhealthy for the game of cricket and bowling as a whole.
It would have been interesting to see if Steyn would have said something similar if it was his former RCB teammate Virat Kohli talking trash with Jansen or would he have complimented him for bringing the competition to the field.

We remember Bobby Darling portraying a not-so-funny (and borderline problematic) comedy roles she did in TV shows and films of the 2000s.
While she often played the stereotypical gay man and trans roles, she was a quite popular actor in the genre and did a lot of shows and movies at the time. However, ironically, as the Pride Movement gained momentum in India, we saw less of the trans star.
    © Instagram/Bobby Darling
The reason was that she wasn’t okay with the kind of roles that were being offered to her.

Talking to TOI, Bobby opened up about why she thinks she doesn’t get a lot of work now as compared to a few years ago.
She said, “I had a lot of work then. But every time around comic lines. I allowed them to make fun of me. Now, I am not ready to play those roles which were offered to me earlier. They still want me to play gay.”
    © Instagram/Bobby Darling
She said that she isn’t gay or transgender but people don’t get this. She was a transwoman who had surgeries to become a woman.

“And, it is simple. Why should I play gay when I am a woman now. I was a transwoman. I underwent surgeries and now my body is that of a woman. So, either I want to play a transwoman or a woman. I am not ready to play gay. How long will I continue to humiliate myself?” she added.
    © Orion Pictures
She said she has been humiliated in the films so much that a movie can be made on her life in Bollywood.

“I feel they can make a movie on me per se,” she said. When asked which actor should play her, she named Ayushmann Khurrana.

Bollywood has a history of stereotyping queer characters and showing them all as ‘gay’ without putting in thought and research on the different genders and sexual orientations that exist. They shove it all under one umbrella.

    © Instagram/Bobby Darling
Good for Bobby to take a stand for herself by not doing crass comedy and roles that she doesn’t identify with, even if it means having minimal work. That takes major courage!
