For ages, stories of a legacy rivalry between two of India’s biggest cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been making the headlines while the players themselves have tried to water down the issue on several fronts.
Nonetheless, every once in a while, certain issues and instances emerge out of the blue that only add to the narrative that all is not well between the two elite batters. In the most recent development, it is all about how Rohit Sharma demanded taking up white ball captaincy across the two formats and how it led to the BCCI unceremoniously sacking Kohli from the position following a 48-hour ultimatum.

— ICC (@ICC) December 8, 2021
Under such circumstances, it is obvious that some of the other players, coaches and people from the Indian cricket community would have formed some opinions of their own and Test specialist Wriddhiman Saha is certainly one of them.
In a conversation with Economic Times, Saha played his cards rather diplomatically and said that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are brilliant leaders and that he was convinced that the two will join forces for the betterment of their team and India as a whole.
Saha (in Economic Times) said "Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are very good leaders - I am sure both work together and take the game ahead. Having spent lots of time with them, I can tell you, the dressing room is very happy - everyone has only one interest, work as a team".
— Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) December 12, 2021
Saha also mentioned that the Indian dressing room is rather happy with such a transfer of power and authority and the whole team has just one objective in their hearts and that is to work as a single unit for the betterment of the squad’s position in world cricket.
After reading what Saha, a veteran of the squad, had to say about the ongoing controversy, many branded him as the peacemaker who was doing the right thing by trying to mellow down the situation instead of giving in to the war or words.
'W' Saha the peacemaker our country needs
— ' (@_melancholyyyy_) December 12, 2021Very matured statement. Some people may see this as diplomatic. But no. This is very honest statement coming from an honest person
— vivekpunekar (@vivekpunekar) December 12, 2021Haha dresing room are so happy only bcz of that decision thanx saha
— Shrikant (@CricketIsLife18) December 12, 2021However, many feel that instead of being truthful and honest in his thoughts, Saha decided to play it safe during the interview and he did not want to annoy either of the two titans of Indian cricket as his chances of making a return to the red-ball squad may very well be dependent on it.
This is called safe move
Dono ki equally tarif karo
Dono back karenge
— Subman Gayle (@dan_dsouza18) December 12, 2021— uwu ♡ (@tatakaeyy) December 12, 2021Phir bhi pant ko hi mauka mile wala hein.
— Abhishek Manchare (@AbhiManchare) December 12, 2021What else he is supposed to say? That dressing room is divided and the knives are out??!!??
— 18 Till I Die (@iSpeakCricket) December 12, 2021When there is resistance in giving up power, while the other side wishes to make it happen by hook or by crook, the chances of a wrinkleless relationship between the two parties get drastically reduced. Things might go back to being normal after a while. However, to say that all is well in the Indian locket room at the moment feels like a ‘too good to be true’ situation.

The recent happenings within the Indian cricket team and the career of former Indian T20I and ODI captain, Virat Kohli, shows that regardless of how rich, famous and powerful you are, even you have your share of tough times written in your name.
Within a month, the cricketer, who is statistically, one of the greatest skippers the Men in Blue have had the pleasure of playing under, has been humiliated, sacked from his position for standing his ground and thrown into an abyss of uncertainty.
View this post on InstagramFor people from all walks of life, such a moment defines the kind of human being they will turn into. In the face of adversity, it is very easy for people to lose sight of their goals, objectives and the reason why they had started a journey in the first place. However, if there is someone who sticks around during such times and reminds you of who you truly are, the effect of such support goes a long way.
In the case of Virat Kohli, it is his wife and actor, Anushka Sharma, who wrote a very special message for the ace cricketer on the occasion of their fourth anniversary. While sharing a carousel of pictures with him, Sharma wrote:
View this post on Instagram“There is no easy way out, there is no shortcut home. Your favourite song and words you’ve lived by always. These words hold true for everything including relationships. Takes tremendous courage to be the person you are in a world filled with perceptions & optics.”
“Thank you for inspiring me when I needed it and for keeping your mind open when you needed to listen. Marriage of equals is only possible when both are secure. And you are the most secure man I know,” she added.
View this post on Instagram“Like I’ve said earlier, fortunate are those who really know the real you, the soul behind all the achievements, the man behind all the projections cast upon you.. May love, honesty, transparency and respect guide us always,” Anushka wrote.
Earlier this year, Kohli was in a conversation with Dinesh Karthik during which he expressed the gratitude he had for Anushka. He credits her for not only believing in him but also helping him understand the kind of impact he could have on the world through the work that he does.

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma tied the knot back in 2017 and became parents in January this year, to a daughter named Vamika. Kohli has spoken on numerous occasions about how becoming a parent has also been an eye-opening experience and how the smile of your child has a calming effect on you regardless of how stressed you are.
Coming back to Kohli’s journey as a cricketer, the 33-year old is finally rid of all the additional responsibilities as a captain, at least in white-ball cricket, regardless of how the transition of power took place. Now, the only thing he should have on his mind is to return to the superhuman form he was in a couple of years ago and dominate international cricket the way we have seen him do in his prime.

Earlier this week, the BCCI announced, rather out of the blue, that Rohit Sharma was going to become the ODI captain of the Indian cricket team ahead of the South Africa series. It was extremely surprising especially because Sharma was made the T20I skipper no more than a month ago and the former captain, Virat Kohli had specifically mentioned in his social media post that he was going to continue to remain the leader of the team in ODIs and Tests.
Still, a lot of fans presumed that Virat Kohli had willingly stepped aside from the position as he may have wanted Sharma to take over the duties of white-ball cricket across the board. However, the facade didn’t hold together for long as yet another report confirmed that Kohli had absolutely no intention of stepping down and that the Indian cricket board gave him an ultimatum.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward.#TeamIndia | @ImRo45 pic.twitter.com/hcg92sPtCa
— BCCI (@BCCI) December 8, 2021
According to multiple news reports, the BCCI gave him a 48-hour deadline to announce his retirement from ODI captaincy or else they would take the matters into their own hands and fire him from the job arbitrarily.
When Kohli refused to bow down, the organization simply made it public that Sharma was the new captain with a simple tweet. Their social media team, which has grown famous for sharing creative videos for every occasion, big or small, had absolutely nothing in the name of a tribute for their former skipper when Sharma’s ascension was official. Finally, after one whole damaging day, their Twitter account shared Kohli’s impeccable stats as an ODI skipper and that was it.
A leader who led the side with grit, passion & determination.
Thank you Captain @imVkohli!#TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/gz7r6KCuWF

If such a removal of an iconic player as the position of a captain feels rather unceremonious, bland and sudden, this isn’t the first time the BCCI have pulled such a trick. About two and a half decades ago, it was the legendary Sachin Tendulkar who had found himself in a similar situation and the ‘Master Blaster’ has even confessed to how humiliated it made him feel the way the BCCI brushed him aside.
In his autobiography titled ‘Playing It My Way’, Tendulkar has described the moment he was dropped from the team as the captain back in 1997 and the pain and humiliation he had felt at the time.
In 1997 what Sachin has written on his book that he sacked from ODI captaincy and same has happened with Virat but after a year in 1998 Sachin scored ton after tons and scored 12 centuries in that year hope Virat to do that in batting in coming year pic.twitter.com/sLI5odmA9u
— Prasanjit (@Prasanj19782888) December 9, 2021
“At the end of the series, I was unceremoniously sacked as skipper. No one from the BCCI managed to call me or inform me of my removal as captain before someone from the media called to say I was no longer captain," Tendulkar had written.
“I was actually with my friends in Sahitya Sahawas. I felt extremely humiliated to hear this, but the manner in which the whole thing was handled strengthened my resolve to be a better cricketer in the years to come.
View this post on Instagram
“I told myself that the BCCI mandarins might be able to take the captaincy away from me, but no one could do the same as far as my own cricket was concerned," he wrote.
“During my tenure as captain some of the players used to call me ‘skip’, so when one of the players shouted out ‘skipper’ in our next engagement in Dhaka, I automatically turned around to answer the call. That’s when it really hit me that I was no longer the captain of the Indian cricket team.
“Now I simply had to focus on my batting and win some matches for the team. So that’s what I did," he had written.

Shahid Kapoor’s relationship with Kareena Kapoor made headlines for all the wrong reasons. From their leaked MMS to their ugly breakup, Shahid and Kareena’s relationship is still one of the most controversial fallouts in Bollywood. The industry is known to have scandalous fights and Shahid has been a part of a few. Shahid and Fardeen Khan’s fall out back in 2004 seemed to have gone unnoticed and well, the reason for their rift was Kareena.
View this post on Instagram
Shahid and Fardeen collaborated for the 2004 film Fida. The film had a steamy hot scene between Fardeen and Kareena which became a reason behind the massive fight between Kapoor and Khan on sets.
Sources reveal that things got messed up really badly and it took a lot of persuasion from the team to make things normal between the two co-stars.
View this post on Instagram
As reported by IBTimes, Fardeen Khan also once agreed that there was some tension between Shahid and him. He said, “Yes, it’s true, we aren’t the best of friends. Shahid and I don’t get along. But it wasn’t a big fight. I had heard that he was bitching about me. He is quite immature. He had a few issues and I told him to stop talking about me.”
He also further said, “Kareena and I are strictly friends. By virtue of our spending time together, the degree of trust and comfort is higher. But there is nothing more to it.”
View this post on Instagram
Later, Shahid Kapoor made an appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan sharing the couch with Esha Deol. Kapoor at that time opened up about the rift between him and Fardeen. He said, “I personally don’t have any issues with him. And if he had any issues he could have called up and spoken about it but he chose to talk about it in the print so what else do I say.”
We just wish the two have let bygones be bygones now as Shahid too has moved on with Mira Rajput. Kareena is happily enjoying her life with her husband Saif Ali Khan and Fardeen has his priorities set as he is planning to make a Bollywood comeback.

Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma were last seen together in Karan Johar's 2016 hit Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and their onscreen chemistry was loved by fans. During the promotions of the film, their camaraderie and fun banter hinted that they share a comfortable and friendly bond in real-life as well. But did you know that Ranbir once made Anushka cry, like literally? Yes, you read that right! A few years ago, in an interview, Anushka talked about this interesting incident.
View this post on Instagram
Before Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the duo also worked together in Anurag Kashyap's box-office dud Bombay Velvet also featuring Karan Johar in a pivotal role. During the film's shooting, Ranbir reportedly irritated Anushka so much that she literally cried on the sets. Well, at least, that's what Anushka had revealed in the old interview.
She said, “He’s (Ranbir) easy to work with as he’s my friend. We would fight. I even cried once.”
While Ranbir is known to be a fun co-star, Anushka likes to keep to herself and that is why she couldn't take it any longer and started crying. Anushka added, “I didn’t want to fight with him because we were going to shoot a romantic scene. I couldn’t even fight with him. I started to cry like a chick”.
Keeping that incident aside, Anushka further expressed that she shared a great camaraderie with Ranbir and concluded by saying, “I have huge respect for him as an artiste. He is a very good actor and so effortless”.

Well, both the actors are yet to pair up onscreen after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and fans would love to see them together again in a film soon.
On the career front, Ranbir was last seen in the 2018 blockbuster Sanju and has several interesting projects in his kitty. The actor has completed shooting for Yash Raj Film's Shamshera co-starring Vaani Kapoor. He is expected to wrap up Ayan Mukerji's much-delayed Brahmastra opposite girlfriend Alia Bhatt very soon. His line-up also includes Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal and Luv Ranjan's next.

Anushka too is away from the big screen since 2018. Her last release was Aanand L Rai's Zero alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. She's currently busy nurturing her baby girl Vamika and is yet to announce her next. She is expected to make her Bollywood comeback with the Jhulan Goswami biopic. However, the official announcement is still awaited.
