    Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, two of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema, made their highly publicised Hindi film debut in 1981 with Ek Duuje Ke Liye and Andhaa Kaanoon, respectively.Β 

    While Ek Duuje Ke Liye became a blockbuster at the box office, Andhaa Kaanoon too was a massive hit.Β

    With their debut Hindi releases, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth became a nationwide phenomenon and delivered several other successful films in Bollywood. For almost a decade, they were the only two stars from South India who also got nationwide fame.Β 

    In 1990, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna Akkineni made their debut in Bollywood with Pratibandh and the cult classic Shiva, respectively. They too, like Kamal and Rajni, followed it up with a few other successful Hindi films before returning to Telugu cinema and reaching new heights of superstardom.Β

    In 1993, Venkatesh too made a successful Bollywood debut with Anari but couldn’t do much post that in Hindi cinema.Β

    For over two decades, several other South Indian stars tried to penetrate the Hindi market but none saw the kind of success Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan once did in the β€˜80s.Β 

    And then, Baahubali: The Beginning was released in 2015 followed by its sequel, the all-time blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The movie turned its lead star Prabhas into a pan-India star.Β 
    Prabhas became the first South Indian actor in decades to command a huge fan following and box office pull across regions.Β

    His pan-India star status was further solidified with the release of the 2019 film Saaho. Despite receiving negative reviews, the movie made over Rs 150 crore from its Hindi version due to the presence of Prabhas.Β 

    After Prabhas, it was the time for Kannada sensation Yash who delivered an all-time grosser of Sandalwood with KGF: Chapter 1. In Hindi, the movie was released alongside Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero and slowly and steadily garnered momentum at the box office earning close to Rs 50 crore.Β

    The hype around KGF: Chapter 2 is now unparalleled. A mere teaser of the film that was released last year has received an unprecedented 230 million views on YouTube, so far. The movie is expected to have a record-breaking run at the box office even in Hindi markets.Β 

    Now, another South Indian superstar Allu Arjun is entering the Hindi markets with Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1. The Sukumar directorial is carrying huge buzz amongst the Telugu fans but it hasn’t yet caught on with the Bollywood audience.Β

    However, Allu Arjun is already a known face in Hindi belts due to the successful reruns of his Hindi dubbed Telugu movies on TV. Moreover, his last release Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, outside Baahubali films, was an all-time grosser in Telugu states. The movie also grabbed eyeballs when released on OTT.Β 

    The things going in the favour of Pushpa are that it is made on a grand scale, promises a visual extravaganza and features three of the most popular South Indian stars - Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandana and Fahadh Faasil.

    On the downside, the Hindi trailer hasn’t received the desired response and the movie will face massive competition in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is carrying a huge hype around its release and is already breaking advance booking records for a Hollywood film in India.Β 

    In any case, expecting Pushpa to pull off a Baahubali will be too much to ask. But, its best hope is to go the KGF way i.e reaching the finish line in a slow and steady manner boosting the hype around its part 2 if it gets made.

    As for the pertinent question, whether Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1 will be able to transform Allu Arjun into a pan-India star? The answer is not far away as the movie releases this week on December 17.

    Ever since the BCCI sacked Virat Kohli from ODI captaincy and appointed Rohit Sharma as his successor it has created a huge uproar on social media, invoking mixed reactions from fans and experts alike.
    The β€˜Hitman’ supporters are delighted with the news whereas Kohli fans are still finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that they won’t be seeing Kohli leading India in the white-ball cricket ever again and that includes Indian Test skipper’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma.

    Sharma, who played a key role in Kohli realising his dream of becoming an international cricketer, has slammed the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s statement about his favourite student where he claimed that he had asked Kohli not to give up T20 captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup in the UAE.

    After facing severe backlash from Kohli’s massive fanbase on social media, the former India skipper has come forward to defend the selectors and their decision to appoint Rohit as new ODI skipper.

    The BCCI chief has also indirectly blamed Kohli for his own sacking saying that he would have kept his position had he taken his advice and not relinquished the T20 captaincy.

    But Kohli’s childhood coach has rubbished Ganguly’s statement saying he never heard anything like that and his comments came as a β€œsurprise” to him.

    β€œI read Sourav Ganguly's comments recently that he had asked Kohli to not step down from T20I captaincy (before the World Cup). I don't recall anything like that. This statement came as a surprise to me. There are different statements circulating around,” Sharma said on Khelneeti podcast.

    Not just Ganguly, Sharma even ripped into the selectors and the team management for the lack of transparency and not providing any clarifications for their decisions.

    Kohli shares a great bond with his childhood coach and always reaches out to him to discuss his game. But ever since the BCCI made this announcement, the 33-year-old talisman has shut himself off from the outside world by switching off his cellphone.

    β€œI haven't talked to him (Virat Kohli) yet. His phone is switched off for some reason. But as far as my opinion is concerned, he had specifically stepped down from T20 captaincy and the selectors should've straightaway asked him to step down from both the white-ball formats, or not step down at all,” said the 56-year-old.

    Ever since the BCCI stripped him of ODI captaincy, Kohli hasn’t said anything and it will be interesting to see how he greets Rohit when they come face to face before leaving for the South Africa tour.

    In 2019, the actor took to Twitter to share the first look of the movie and he looks completely unrecognizable. Talking about Manekshaw, he joined the British Army in the 1930s and served India after Independence. He was the Chief of Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pak War and retired as Field Marshal from the services in 1973.Β

    Dhanush is one the most popular yet the most down-to-earth stars in South Indian cinema.Β 
    Much like his father-in-law, superstar Rajinikanth, he exudes simplicity and modesty wherever he goes. The latest incident of the actor with the papps in Mumbai is proof of that.Β

    Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush are currently busy promoting their upcoming film Atrangi Re. After one such press junket, the duo was being clicked by the paparazzi where a photographer asked him to speak in β€˜South’.Β

    In a video posted on Instagram, the paparazzo is heard asking the actor, β€œSir kuch South mein boliye na? (Sir please say something in South). Dhanush, perplexed at this, asks, β€œHaan?” Another photographer then corrects him, saying β€œTamil mein (In Tamil).” Dhanush folds his hands and humbly replies, β€œVanakkam" (meaning hello).Β

    Fans noticed the embarrassing exchange and slammed the photographer for his ignorance.Β 
    One user commented, β€œSouth mein boliye? Umm? Aap north mein bolte ho kya bhaiyya? (Say something in South? Do you speak in North, brother?)” 
    Another commented, β€œWhat is south mein boliye abhi Mumbai se South mein jaye bolne ke liye (What do you mean speak in South? Should a person go from Mumbai to South India just to speak)? Paps should have the basic knowledge of how to speak."

    There are four major languages that are spoken in the South Indian states which are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The photographer, like many others, assumed that the language spoken in the South is called β€˜South’. Facepalm!

    The grand and much-awaited wedding of Bollywood stars Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif was something out of a dream.Β 
    I think it's fair to say that none of them would have ever thought that in time, it would be one of the most talked-about events in the country.

    However, underneath all that glamour and media coverage, the fact remains that despite all the attention and eyeballs, the wedding was still a match between not just two Bollywood stars, but a union between two people who care deeply for each other.Β 

    Both Vicky and Katrina started secretly dating each other at a time when celebs can often be seen going out on exotic trips even if they're just seeing each other.Β 
    However, it almost feels like their relationship meant a hell of a lot more to them, with both stars choosing to keep it under wraps for a fairly long time.

    Apparently, there is a truly heartwarming incident that you should know about, which eventually proves the fact that the two are really made for each other.Β 
    According to reports, just after all the ceremonies of the wedding had taken place, Vicky gave a heartfelt speech for his wife Katrina, something that would make anyone feel butterflies in their stomachs.Β 
    As per a source speaking to Bollywood Bubble, the speech was so emotional that Katrina almost burst into tears.Β

    β€œA lot of people raised questions about their decision to get married just within a year and a half of their courtship. But we know how madly they have been in love. In fact, Katrina has been her happiest self with Vicky. He treats her like a queen and gives her something she has always wanted in all her relationships - respect and value. We were also sure they will be married but yes, we also didn’t know if it would happen this year itself."

    β€œRight after the varmala ceremony and the entire wedding, Vicky gave a very heartfelt speech on how Katrina has changed his life and expressed his love for her. That got Katrina happily emotional and she almost teared up. It was a wonderful speech for sure," said the source.Β 
    Now, we know that before Vicky, Katrina had been in relationships with both Ranbir Kapoor and Salman Khan, with both relationships ending like how most relationships end. In heartbreak.

    Virat Kohli’s unceremonious sacking from the captain of India’s ODI squad has raised many eyebrows. Fans are still finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that the 33-year-old Indian batter was stripped of his captaincy duties despite having an excellent win record in the format.
    While picking the squad for the Test series against South Africa, the national selectors also decided to appoint Rohit Sharma as the new ODI skipper going forward. While the Kohli fans are busy blaming BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Rohit Sharma for this unfair treatment meted out to their favourite cricketer, the Prince of Kolkata has once again reiterated that all of this wouldn’t have happened had Kohli listened to him.

    Ganguly has indirectly blamed Kohli for his own sacking saying that he had β€œpersonally requested” him not to relinquish the T20I captaincy role ahead of the T20 World Cup but he didn’t listen to him and did what he thought was right for him.Β 
    β€œIt's like I said… I personally requested him (Kohli) not to give up the T20I captaincy. Obviously, he felt the workload. Which is fine, he has been a great cricketer, he has been very intense with his cricket. He has captained for a long period of time and these things happen. Because I have captained for a long period of time; therefore, I know,” Ganguly told News 18.

    Before the T20 World Cup, Kohli had announced on social media that he would give up the shortest captaincy after the tournament in order to manage his workload. However, he had also said that he would like to continue leading the side in the ODI and Test cricket.
    Ganguly feels that after Kohli decided to give up the T20 leadership, the selectors didn’t want to have two separate captains for the two limited-overs formats and that’s why they decided to hand over the reins to Rohit Sharma.

    β€œAlso, they wanted only one white-ball captain. And that's why this decision. I don't know what's going to happen in future. But as I said, it's a good team and it has some fantastic players and I hope they will turn it around,” said the BCCI president.

    What Ganguly is saying to defend the selectors’ decision is hard to digest because it’s not as if India hasn't had two separate captains in the white-ball formats. In fact, we don’t even have to dig into the past because the Indian women’s team has had two separate T20I and ODI skippers for a long time.
    So, if they can be allowed to have two different leaders, the same could have been done for the men’s team as well.

    While sacking Kohli the selectors also took into consideration the fact that he failed to deliver a major silverware but I guess they forgot that cricket is a team game and winning a tournament takes a complete team effort, one player can’t do that.

    Kohli might be the face of the team but he wasn’t the only reason why India couldn’t lift any ICC trophy. So, punishing him like this was a bit too harsh.
    By holding Kohli responsible for his own sacking as the ODI captain Ganguly might be trying to save his face and clear his name but we are not sure if he succeeded in doing that or dug a deeper hole for himself.

    Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor worked together for the first time in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2017 period drama Rangoon.Β 

    The movie also starred Saif Ali Khan in a prominent role.Β 
    In the film, Shahid and Kangana shared a lot of steamy scenes that had made headlines around the film’s release. So much so, that during the promotions of the film, Kangana was asked about her experience of kissing Shahid in the film and she had termed it as β€œdisgusting”.Β

    She had stated, β€œShahid's moustache was horrible and it (kissing) would be disgusting. Then he would keep telling me that he has a runny nose which helps it to stick.” 

    She had also described sharing a cottage with him as a β€œnightmare”.Β 
    Speaking to Mid-Day Kangana said, ”We were shooting in a remote location where a little makeshift cottage was erected. Shahid and I were sharing the cottage with our respective teams. Every morning, I would wake up to this mad hip-hop music. And he would exercise listening to crazy trance and techno songs blasting from the speakers. I was fed up and wanted to shift out. Sharing the cottage with Shahid was a nightmare.”

    Kangana’s comment didn’t go down well with Shahid who had denied saying anything to her about the β€œrunny nose”. He told DNA, β€œI have to tell you that Kangana makes up things in her head. She has a vivid imagination. I don’t remember telling her all this at all.”

    After a few rounds of β€œHe Said-She Said”, Shahid decided to put an end to his feud with Kangana saying, β€œI would not like to play a table tennis match on this whole episode by answering to each of her comments. I just wish to put an end to this match. Kangana should move ahead with all her co-stars in an amicable manner and work with a team spirit.”


    However, a couple of years later, Shahid was asked about the worst part of kissing Kangana in keechad (mud). He replied on Neha Dhupia’s chat show, β€œThat’s a really random question! Really random memories… Kuch yaad hi nahi aa raha hai. Blank ho gaya hoon main, yaar. If it was in the keechad, it was keechad-y.”

    Their wedding had been in the headlines for the secretive approach. Some of the rules include no disclosure of wedding attendance, no photography, no sharing pictures on social media, no sharing location on social media, no contact with the outside world till you leave the venue, all photos to be published only after approval from wedding planners and no reels or videos can be made at the wedding venue.
    For the unversed, Katrina and Vicky’s dating rumours had begun when during an award show, the actor had confessed that he has a huge crush on Katrina. While both were on the stage to present an award, Vicky had asked her "Why don't you find a nice boy like Vicky Kaushal and get married to him?" He further raised eyebrows by asking her, "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi?”
