Dhanush Was Asked To Speak In ‘South’ & Pissed Fans Ask ‘WTF Does That Even Mean?’

Dhanush is one the most popular yet the most down-to-earth stars in South Indian cinema.

Much like his father-in-law, superstar Rajinikanth, he exudes simplicity and modesty wherever he goes. The latest incident of the actor with the papps in Mumbai is proof of that.

Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush are currently busy promoting their upcoming film Atrangi Re. After one such press junket, the duo was being clicked by the paparazzi where a photographer asked him to speak in ‘South’.

In a video posted on Instagram, the paparazzo is heard asking the actor, “Sir kuch South mein boliye na? (Sir please say something in South). Dhanush, perplexed at this, asks, “Haan?” Another photographer then corrects him, saying “Tamil mein (In Tamil).” Dhanush folds his hands and humbly replies, “Vanakkam" (meaning hello).

Fans noticed the embarrassing exchange and slammed the photographer for his ignorance.

One user commented, “South mein boliye? Umm? Aap north mein bolte ho kya bhaiyya? (Say something in South? Do you speak in North, brother?)”

Another commented, “What is south mein boliye abhi Mumbai se South mein jaye bolne ke liye (What do you mean speak in South? Should a person go from Mumbai to South India just to speak)? Paps should have the basic knowledge of how to speak."

There are four major languages that are spoken in the South Indian states which are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The photographer, like many others, assumed that the language spoken in the South is called ‘South’. Facepalm!

This incident perfectly sums up the ignorance of a lot of Indians about the Southern states of India and their culture and languages. We do love their movies and food but don’t care enough to educate ourselves about it.

Atrangi Re also stars Akshay Kumar and will hit the screens on 24th December 2021.

While Dhanush laughed off the 'South' incident and was sweet about it, desis on the internet were embarrassed and shaking their head in disappointment.
