If you saw a woman screaming ‘Bhagwan ke liye mujhe chod do’ on the big screen back in old days, you knew Ranjeet was a part of that particular narrative. From dialogues like ‘Aur chillah! Yahaan teri cheekh sunne walah koi nahin hai’ to ‘Itni achi cheez bhagwan ke liye chod doon… Kabhi nahin!’, Ranjeet was stereotyped as a character who made women feel uncomfortable on the big screen.
In an interview with TOI, he revealed that he was about to leave Mumbai as he had aspired to be a lead role in a film by Ranjeet Singh aka Ronnie, which was later shelved. After his dreams were shattered, he decided to visit Sunil Dutt’s office to help out a friend and found out he had a role to offer but he had no idea that it would completely change his image.
View this post on Instagram“A friend asked me to get him some work in a production house and just before leaving the city, I took him to Dutt Saab's office. There, the manager told me that Dutt Saab was angry with me as he had been trying to get in touch with me for a role and was unable to. That’s how I landed Reshma Aur Shera. The next day, Mohan Saigal called me asking if I’d want to do a small role in his film Sawan Bhaadon, I said I would. That’s how I started my career – playing a brother in two back-to-back releases, but fir poori zindagi main ladkiyon ke kapde kheenchte reh gaya (for the rest of my life, I kept playing a baddie who molested women),” Ranjeet said, revealing that it was Sunil Dutt who named him Ranjeet Goli.
Ranjeet also revealed that he would sign movies without even reading the scripts. “Back in those days, no one listened to the story before signing a film; even the main heroes were told only a line. Actors like me assumed that if a filmmaker was coming to them, it must be for a role that he is fit for. I have never interfered with anyone’s scripts and I didn’t feel the need to. I didn’t have any problem with playing a villain. Of course, there were social repercussions, initially. My family was livid but eventually, they realized it was my job. I never planned my career; just moulded myself into whatever came my way,” he said.
View this post on InstagramHe also recalled how people on the sets used to call him ‘rape specialist’ but he made sure all his female co-stars were comfortable around him. “I went out of my way to make my heroines comfortable, so much so, that after a while even when I was not a part of the film, but there was a rape scene, they would tell the filmmaker to call me. They started calling me the rape specialist. Back in the day -- it wasn’t vulgar; we had a set format -- hero, heroine, comedian, villain, sister, mother. It was not like now; there were no lovemaking scenes. Why don’t they make a blue film only then? I always joke that change in fashion killed my career; women started wearing such short clothes, there was nothing left to pull,” he added.
He also revealed how he was thrown out of his house for playing a man who abuses women on the screen. Ranjeet said that his family was unhappy with his role in Sharmeelee because his character forced himself on Rakhee Gulzar. “Jab Sharmeelee picture aayi toh mujhe ghar se nikaal diya (I was thrown out of my house when Sharmeelee released),” he said. On being asked why, he said, “Rakhee ke jo baal-vaal kheeche, uske kapde-vapde phaadne ki koshish ki (Because I pulled Rakhee’s hair and tried to tear her clothes),” he said.

Ranjeet was told, “Yeh koi kaam hai? Koi major, officer, air force officer ya doctor ka role karo. Baap ka naak katwa diya hai. Apna kaunsa mooh leke jayega Amritsar mein (What kind of work is this? You should take up roles like army major, officer, air force officer, or doctor. You have humiliated your father. How will he face everyone back home in Amritsar)?”
Ranjeet’s explosive revelations gave us an insight into how the industry has been stereotyping actors since a long time. We hope with the diversification in subject matters explored in cinema, Ranjeet also gets to prove his mettle in different roles.

It’s not always that the characters we see in movies stick with us for a long time. However, there have been some remarkable characters who are so endearing that we wonder if someone like them even exists in real life.

While the toxic ones like Kabir Singh and annoying girlfriends like those in Pyaar Ka Punchanama are better off onscreen, there are some who we think could be totally date-worthy partners, if they were real.

    © Dharma Productions
While they might be just fictional, here are the 7 most bindass and amazing women from Bollywood movies that every man would want to date in real life:

    1. Laila From 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' © Excel Entertainment
Laila is fun, friendly and an advocate of YOLO in a non-annoying way.

She loves to travel and isn't stuck up. She lives her life to the fullest and on her own terms while also bringing out the best in people.
Not to mention, she is incredibly beautiful and bold. Now, who wouldn’t want to date her?
    2. Shruti Kakkar From 'Band Baja Baraat' © Yash Raj Films
Every man wants his woman to be driven and independent. Shruti is just that.

She has a goal and fiercely works day and night to achieve it. When she falls in love, she does it with equal dedication too.
    3. Geet From 'Jab We Met' © Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Limited
Geet is undoubtedly one of the most loveable characters in Bollywood. There was something about her that made even a depressed Aditya look at life positively.

She is the kind of person you would want to hang out with and will have the craziest and most adventurous time on dates.
    4. Mili from 'Rangeela' © Varma Creations
There would hardly be a guy who didn’t fall for the sweet and sexy Mili Joshi in the 90s.

She was an ambitious and fearless woman who wanted to reach for the stars but also had her feet on the ground. Those dance moves, though! Munna got lucky!
    5. Sophie from 'Andhadhun' © Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
She is a super cool and no-drama kind of girl who is so beyond superficial standards that she falls for a 'blind' guy.

Plus, she is incredibly sorted and tells Akash to be clear of his feelings for her. She is the kind of girl who you wouldn’t want to hurt or stress, because as she said, “pimples hote hain yaar usse.”
    6. Naina From 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' © Dharma Productions
A girl who’s smart (a doctor), a great friend and knows how to have fun is definitely a catch.

And, Naina is all that. Plus, she carries those nerdy specs as amazingly as she carries a saree (she nailed the ‘get you a girl who can do both’ trend).
However, her best quality is that she doesn’t give up on love. She even got Bunny to commit.
    7. Neha From 'Dostana' © Dharma Productions
The desi girl with modern values, Neha was the coolest. She is someone every man would drool over. No wonder, she had three guys vying for her attention in the movie.
She is fashionable, fun and focused on her career. But she is also empathetic and sweet and even impressed the Punjabi mom Kirron Kher. Now that’s something.

From a lanky guy in Masaan to a muscular army man in Uri: The Surgical Strike, Vicky Kaushal has come a long way and has proven his mettle with his powerful performances. Now, the actor is gearing up for his next movie, Sardar Udham, based on the life of Indian revolutionary Sardar Udham Singh. Today, September 27, on the occasion of Bhagat Singh's birth anniversary, Vicky took to social media platforms to share the teaser.
Sharing the teaser, Vicky wrote, "On the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, I’m proud to bring to you the story of his ally- Sardar Udham Singh- one man, many aliases, one mission. Presenting the teaser of #SardarUdham.”

The PR handout describes the teaser as intriguing and reads, ‘ the teaser opens with the protagonist meticulously piecing together a document. The focus shifts to a stack of passports, each reflecting a different name – Ude Singh, Frank Brazil, Sher Singh, with the latest one, with ‘Udham Singh’ being scrawled across it, being added to the pile. Zooming into a picture of Vicky Kaushal who essays the character of Sardar Udham Singh in the end, the teaser video sets the tone for an intriguing and engrossing tale of a patriot with many aliases but with a single mission in life – to avenge India’s most gruesome tragedy.’
After watching the teaser, people are calling it a masterpiece and have been wanting to see more of Vicky. Just a glimpse of the actor was enough to pique the interest of the viewers though.

Talking about Sardar Udham, the movie traces the life story of the revolutionary freedom fighter who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, who was the Governor of Punjab when the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place in 1919.

Vicky has undergone major weight loss for Sardar Udham as he had to lose 13kg in just three months for the role of Udham Singh. “Vicky has lost about 13kg in just three months for Udham Singh. He has lost all that weight to play the younger portions of Singh. It wasn't an easy task but he was clear about shedding the weight in order to look convincing as a 20-something boy,” Hindustan Times quoted a source.
The source added, “At the end of the day, he is a Punjabi boy, who loves his food but he knew he had to control his urge. Plus, he worked out diligently with his trainer on a daily basis. There was no way he would have given up as he knew the importance of acquiring the lean look.”
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the Amazon Original Movie is produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar and is set to release on Amazon Prime Video during Dussehra on 16th October 2021.
