One of the common denominators or topics of conversation between men (necessarily not all) is working out. And if I was being specific, it is going to the β€œgym”.Β

You see, at one point or another, in a man’s life, the thought of hitting the gymΒ to work on his body must have crossed his mind.Β

Whether or not they paid heed to the thought is a different story but those of them who did most certainly would have had an experience that is no different than others.
We are talking about a few things that happen to almost every guy who joins the gym and realises that it is a place not just about building muscle but a lot of other things. Here are some of them:
    1. Trainer Only Ever Pays Attention To Girls Β© iStock
One would think going to the gym would help them to exercise alongside an experienced trainer who could guide them with what’s wrong or what’s right, but nope.Β

Unless you’re a girl, you are bound to get zero assistance from the trainer, unless of course, you’re willing to pay the hefty β€˜personal training’ fee.Β
    2. Finding Machines/Equipment Laden With Sweat
    via GIPHY
It is but natural to sweat profusely in a gym, after all, you’re burning so many calories and working your ass off.Β

But it is when you realise that the machine you’ve just started using is slick with someone else’s sweat that sanitising is way more important than you thought!
    3. Urge To Do An Extra Rep As Soon As A Girl Walks By Β© iStock
You could be doing just fine with your four rep set, but the moment a woman walks by, you suddenly feel the urge to do an extra set and even with more weight.Β

Of course, what follows is probably a cramp, but hey, at least you were able to flex in front of the chicas!
    4. Finding People Who Use Gym As A StudioΒ
    via GIPHY
These are the Gen Z people who will show up to the gym in their finest clothes and accessories only to claim a space in front of the mirror and click a selfie with a dumbbell they usually don’t even dare pick up.Β Β
Not to forget the ones who diligently make reels and work out only for those 10 seconds.Β
    5. Getting Pressured To Buy Either Whey Protein Or A Fat BurnerΒ  Β© iStock
It would be your very first day at the gym, and you would still be just getting the feel of what working out really looks like.
But the trainer would be after your life to sell you a box of whey protein or a fat burner till the time you actually give in and buy one just so they’d leave you alone.Β
    6. Needing Earphones Not For Music, But For Noise Control
    via GIPHY
Being in a gym means also being around people who are fitness enthusiasts and who workout like a beast.Β Β
That translates into hearing loud, roaring and pretty weird noises coming out of their mouths during deadlifts that are enough to shake you to your core.Β Β
And so, earphones become your only respite!Β
    7. Realising Your Trainer Has More Power On You Than You ThoughtΒ  Β© Yash Raj Films
From how many hours you spend in the gym to what you eat and whether or not you drink, suddenly, your trainer controls everything.Β

And on days you think you can get away with lying about gorging on a cheese burst pizza a night before, the trainer sees right through you and puts you down for an additional 15 sets!

Most Bollywood movies that we have watched growing up are about how the guy always gets the girl, the good always wins over the evil and love triumphs all.Β
However, that’s not how life works and some (only a handful) movies have been a reminder of how life is not all about happy endings and leave you with a heavy heart when they end.Β

What’s especially worse is when you are invested in the movie and a tragic ending ruins your day.Β

Ever watched the ending credits through tears in your eyes? Or, a hauntingly disturbing ending that lived rent-free in your head for days or even weeks? Those are some Bollywood movies that stayed with us despite being depressing and ending tragically.

Here are 7 such Bollywood movies that ended on an emotional, distressing and absolutely tragic note and had us lie awake at nights for weeks:

    Disclaimer: Spoilers ahead.
    1. Badlapur (2015) Β© Maddock Films
This is one of those rare films that give us the reality check that life is not all rainbows and unicorns and there is so much evil out there in the world.Β

Raghu is a simple family man whose world is turned upside down because his wife and kid were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
He plans to brutally kill his family’s murderers which is disturbing, but what’s really upsetting and tragic is how an innocent man becomes ruthless and turns into a raging, revenge-seeking killer in the end.Β
    2. Tere Naam (2003) Β© MD Productions
It was the time when not all Salman Khan’s movies were trash. Tere Naam gave us a tragic love story with an ending no one could fathom.

If there was anything more disturbing than Radhey’s hairstyle, it was the gut-wrenching climax where he finds out the love of his life Nirjara killed herself and he willingly goes to the mental asylum because there was nothing else left to fight for.
    3. Anjali (1990) Β© GV Films
This was a 90s Telugu movie from legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam and watching it in our childhood gave us sleepless nights.Β

Anjali, a special child, was separated from her family at birth and later bullied and hated when she did unite with them.
However, when she is finally accepted by all, she dies in her sleep. We absolutely didn’t see the end coming and we need answers.Β
This was the most saddening part of my childhood.Β  Β
    4. Rang De Basanti (2006) Β© Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures
Anyone who watched this movie prayed till the end for the group to get out of the safe and alive.Β

    Only that they didn’t.Β
None of them did and their only sin was fighting against the system for their friend.Β
Seeing the young and courageous boys, in a pool of blood, fighting for their life with a smile on their faces was the most heartbreaking scene ever.
    5. Dhadak (2018) Β© Dharma Productions
A lot of movies based on honour killing have shown the tragic death of two people in love, think Ishaqzaade and Ram-Leela and even the original version of this movie, Sairat.Β

However, the end of Dhadak is exceptionally disturbing because they even killed the child. Yes, they didn’t have to do the kid like that.Β
But, the reality is that many real people who elope are fated to the end in the exact same tragedy.Β Β
    6. Padmaavat (2018) Β© Bhansali Productions
If the Jauhar scene, in the end, didn’t send chills down your spine, we don’t know what will.Β

Not only the scene gave us goosebumps, but the mere thought about the agony women went through in the earlier times upon the death of their husbands during wartime was incredibly heart-wrenching.Β
We have all read about the β€˜sati pratha’ but we didn’t know the pain of women who had to go through it until we saw hundreds of women running towards the flaming pyre in the climax of this movie.
    7. Vaastav: The Reality (1999)Β Β  Β© Adishakti Films
Never thought we would feel bad for a gangster but there’s such power in the ending scene of this film. Realising he is beyond redemption, Raghu runs to his mother and pleads with her to save him, and we think she will, after all, she is his mother.

However, the next thing we know, he hands over his gun and begs her to kill him (hold your just tears yet).Β
The mother pulls the trigger and takes her son’s life as he lies on her lap (and...cue the waterworks!). The most powerful and unpredictable scene in the history of Bollywood, at least for me!Β
