After the fifth Test between India and England was abandoned due to several members of the Indian cricket team (essentially the supporting staff) tested positive with the COVID-19 virus, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) demanded that the match should be counted as an Indian forfeit and not an inconclusive draw.
The ECB suffered massive losses after the fifth Test was called off. UK Publication Telegraph estimated that the English cricket board would lose over £20 million in just broadcasting rights if the Manchester clash was not televised. Additionally, they also had to refund tickets to a house-full Old Trafford stadium to make the matters worse.
Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test at Emirates Old Trafford, due to start today, will be cancelled.
    — England Cricket (@englandcricket) September 10, 2021
As retribution, the ECB released a statement in which they said that “India are regrettably unable to field a team” and remains adamant on calling the fifth Test a forfeit by Virat Kohli’s side.
A forfeit here would implicate a loss in Team India’s column, which would further mean that the series ended in a 2-2 draw, thereby taking away India’s chance to get a series win in England in over 14 years. Finally, it is also a means through which the ECB can claim their insurance money for all the losses they incurred.

It would also mean a win in England’s column for in the World Test Championship points table while allowing them to take the second spot in the second cycle of the tournament.
After numerous negotiations fell off the table and despite BCCI officials making the case for a genuine health concern for their athletes and staff members, the Indian cricket board decided to make a counteroffer with a condition.
VVS Laxman (in TOI) wrote, “With BCCI's offer in mind to play a one-off Test next year to compensate ECB’s financial loss, ICC should award the Test series 2-1 to India.”
    — Neelabh (@CricNeelabh) September 14, 2021
According to Daily Mail, the BCCI has offered to play two extra T20Is or a one-off Test match in July 2022 provided the Manchester Test is not counted as a forfeit on behalf of the Men in Blue.
“It is correct that we have offered to play two extra T20Is when we visit England next July (only for the white-ball games). Instead of three T20Is, we will play five T20Is. Alternatively, we will be willing to play a one-off Test as well. It is up to them to choose either of the offers,” Shah told Cricbuzz.

If your date night idea is to watch a horror movie together, if you love Halloween even though you are desi and if randomly listening to spooky ghost stories gives you a kick, then you are a horror freak or in literary terms, a phobophile.

    © iStock
Well, now the brave movie buffs could make some pennies out of their strange interests.

A US company is looking for a ‘horror movie heart rate analyst’. It is offering $1300 (Rs. 95000) to anyone who is willing to binge watch 13 scariest movies in a span of 10 days (this Halloween).
Rs 95K for a movie marathon? We are clearly in the wrong profession.
    © iStock
The company, Financebuzz is a financial independence website that wants to discover if the budget of a horror movie impacts the heart rate of the viewer and how “dread-inducing” it can be.

The release from the company said, “In honor of the upcoming spooky season, we at FinanceBuzz are dying to know whether or not high-budget horror movies deliver stronger scares than low-budget ones.”
    © Sony Pictures Releasing International
The movies the analyst would be required to watch are Saw, Amityville Horror, A Quiet Place, A Quiet Place Part 2, Candyman, Insidious, The Blair Witch Project, Sinister, Get Out, The Purge, Halloween (2018), Paranormal Activity and Annabelle.

These are some of the classic Hollywood horror movies which are on everyone’s Halloween watchlist.
    © Miramax
The ‘horror movie heart rate analyst’ needs to watch all the spookiest movies on the list from October 9 to October 18. Their heart rate would be monitored using the Fitbit while watching each film.

The purpose of this experiment is backed by the fact that the scariest and most terrifying movies do not have to be big-budget, sometimes, the scary story makes it more spine-chilling than the expensive CGI and sound effects.
Honestly, a message reading ‘based on true events’ in the end is enough for it to keep us awake at night.

The applicant signing up for the gig needs to be 18 years of age (obviously) and have a free calendar from 9th to 18th October.

A brave cinephile who loves a horror movie marathon is a plus.

Sourav Ganguly has finally revealed the reason behind Mahendra Singh Dhoni returning to the Indian cricket team as a mentor ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates.
Ever since the announcement was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah a few days ago, fans have been wondering why and how did the Indian cricket board decide to take such an unorthodox approach.

    Vice Captain - Rohit Sharma
    Mentor - MS Dhoni

    — V I P E R™ (@VIPERoffl) September 8, 2021
Here’s what Ganguly had to say in response:
"It's just to help the side in the World Cup. He has a good record in the T20 format for India and the Chennai Super Kings. There has been a lot of thought behind it. We discussed a lot and then decided to have him on board. We haven't won an ICC trophy since 2013," Ganguly told The Telegraph.
Essentially, Dhoni has been brought onboard simply due to the fact that he has won major trophies for the team on multiple occasions, be it the T20 World Cup, World Cup 2011, Asia Cups, or the Champions Trophy, ‘Captain Cool’ has won them all.
Sourav Ganguly thanks MS Dhoni for accepting BCCI's proposal to be a mentor of the Indian side for the T20 World Cup

"Remember Australia had Steve Waugh in a similar role when they drew the Ashes 2-2 in England the last time. The presence of such heavyweights in big-ticket events always helps," the BCCI chief added.
His last appearance in the Indian uniform ended rather disappointingly when he was unable to live up to his reputation as the finisher, played at an extremely slow pace, and got run out against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup semi-final. He’d retire from all forms of international cricket in August 2020, in the middle of a global COVID-19 pandemic.

    — Ketan Sidana (@is_ketan) September 11, 2021
How much of an impact will Dhoni’s presence have on the team as they begin their campaign for the T20 World Cup 2021 in the second half of October, we are yet to see. Maybe having the 40-year old as a member of the coaching staff, and not the Playing Xi might help skipper Virat Kohli utilise his wisdom more effectively.
Dhoni will also be seen in action as the captain of Chennai Super Kings during the second half of the Indian Premier League 2021 which is scheduled to take place in the UAE from September 19, as they take on Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians in the first match.

The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jay Shah has rubbished the reports of Virat Kohli giving up his captaincy to Rohit Sharma in limited-overs cricket after the T20 World Cup 2021.
Shah has shown his support for the active skipper and has said that no transfer of authority has been discussed at the moment and as far as the Men in Blue are winning, it is smooth sailing for the leader and his squad.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirms that There is no such proposal on Split Captaincy and Virat Kohli led Indian team and we are backing Virat. (In Cricbuzz)
    — CricketMAN2 (@man4_cricket) September 13, 2021
“As long as a team is performing while on the crease, the question of a change in captaincy doesn’t arise,” Shah told the Indian Express.
Despite the voice of support and good faith, the fans of Team India felt a sense of hidden threat in what the BCCI Secretary said about Kohli and his captaincy.
Clear indication if india will not win this world cup then definitely there will be change in captaincy.
    — Ritu Raj (@Rituraj416) September 14, 2021Understandle until winning means if we lose t20 wc he mean a change
    — psy_ ₑᵣₐ {𝓱ₒ!ᗰₑ》 (@Ddark_psy) September 14, 2021All boils down to T2O world cup, if india wins Virat Kohli continues if not Rohit sharma. 555%
    — َ (@DharamGaram_) September 14, 2021Many may be reading between the lines here but the majority believes that the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates may be the ultimate ‘must win’ situation for Kohli if he wishes to continue to be in command and not lose power to a fellow teammate.
Just a day ago, the Times of India had reported Kohli’s willingness to give up captaincy in white-ball cricket to his vice-captain Rohit Sharma with the hopes of focusing purely on being one of the best batsmen in the world. It was also reported that Kohli and Sharma had talked out their differences and that the Delhi-born was happy to give up his authority to his opening batsman if it helped him become a batter himself.

The idea of split captaincy in Team India, which has been going on for years within the BCCI board rooms, has also been validated by a BCCI source close to TOI. However, since the reports were made public, Jay Shah has disposed off of them by calling them untrue.
Shah has been participating in the decision-making process for the Men in Blue and making more and more public appearances ever since the Test series between India and England kicked off on foreign soil.
Mr. @msdhoni will join #TeamIndia for the upcoming #T20WorldCup as a mentor.

From arranging a warm-up match by negotiating last moment with the ECB, to announcing MS Dhoni’s return to the squad as ‘Team Mentor’ ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021, the 32-year old official is making strides as a BCCI authority.

The iPhone 13 series is all set to launch today and right before the launch rumours for the upcoming Apple device have started to surface. The latest rumours come from Ming-Chi Kuo via 9to5Mac who says that Apple might be getting rid of the 64GB base model for the new iPhone and instead go with the 128GB storage option as the base model from this year.
Apple is expected to launch four new models today i.e. the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone Mini, similar to last year’s iPhone 12 series. Ming-Chi Kuo added to speculations that all models will have four storage options in total. What’s surprising is that the highest storage option is set to be 1TB for the Pro Models. This will be the first time that Apple will be launching a smartphone that would have a 1 TB storage option.

Apple has been criticised in the past few years for launching a smartphone with 64GB storage. However, Kuo predicts that Apple will be finally leaving that behind. Apple usually launches a 64GB variant of the iPhone to hit the lowest price possible for the iPhone and also convert more people to using its iCloud subscription service.

Kuo went on to add the vanilla iPhone 13 is expected to be made available in three storage options i.e. 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models. Apple is expected to offer the same storage options for the iPhone 13 Mini as well.

Other rumours have suggested that the new iPhone models will be available in a variety of colours. The iPhone 13 models are expected to come in black, purple, pink, blue, white and PRODUCT (red). The iPhone 13 Pro models on the other hand are expected to be available in black, silver, gold, and bronze.

Apple will be announcing the new iPhones today at its California Streaming event scheduled for 10:30 PM IST. We can also expect the Cupertino giant to announce the Apple Watch Series 7 and possibly the third generation of the AirPods.

While Apple is gearing up to host its annual event today, the design of iPhone 13 series and other details leaked last week, days before the launch. Here’s every leak we know about the upcoming iPhone including hardware improvements and a smaller notch.

The athletic gear company ASICS is synonymous with excellence. While the brand has become an aspirational asset for every sports enthusiast, the credit goes to its unrivalled quality, comfort and consistency.
For the uninitiated, the Japanese brand was an official sponsor of the recent olympic games. ASICS became Tokyo 2020’s 10th gold partner, in the category “sporting goods”. Additionally, the brand also sponsors several athletes including Manika Batra, Bajrang Punia, Ravindra Jadeja, Sakshi Malik, Karman Kaur Thandi, Rohan Bopanna, T.Gopi along with international athletes like Novak Djokovic.
    ASICS India
Recently, ASICS India celebrated the homecoming of Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia at its Connaught Place, New Delhi outlet. It was a tete-a-tete of sorts where Bajrang Punia got candid about his experience at the Olympics, how he chooses his sports gear, and a lot more.

Festooned in Bajrang Punia banners, the ASICS India showroom goes all out to inspire and motivate the Olympians of tomorrow. Bajrang Punia, fresh from his victory at the Olympics, looks spiffy as he explores the ASICS India Connaught Place outlet.
ASICS India & South Asia Managing Director, Rajat Khurana, was also present at the occasion. He presented Bajrang Punia with a customised set of sports gear from ASICS. We’re talking running and training footwear and comfy apparel that will help the Olympian achieve sharper goals at his game.

Arjuna award recipient Bajrang Punia also spoke about how he wishes to engage more and more people in wrestling. “India is consistently producing top wrestlers with representation at global platforms and therefore, an even better time for wrestling to prosper as a mainstream sport. Being an individual sport, the onus is on us as one community to act as a catalyst to promote the sport, encourage and develop young and rising sporting talent, enabling them to achieve their aspirations. Knowing I have the power of the ASICS brand behind my endeavour is a huge boost to see my vision for wrestling in India taking shape”, he said.

ASICS India swears by its motto “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body” and leaves no stone unturned in fuelling the sports infrastructure of our country. The brand is actively involved in several grassroot ventures that give a launch pad to budding athletes -- ASICS Running Club, Tata Mumbai Marathon, TCS World 10k and Rohan Bopanna Tennis Academy to name a few.

The current head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri will soon be parting ways with his job as he official tenure is bound to end shortly after the T20 World Cup 2021. As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon start looking for the right person to replace him, Rahul Dravid’s name keeps coming back in the discussion.
Keeping these things in mind, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently addressed the concern around the next head coach and the likelihood of Dravid assuming the position in an interview with The Telegraph.
    View this post on Instagram
During the question-answer session, the former Indian skipper and BCCI chief said that the last time Dravid was asked about becoming the head coach of the team, he had said that he wasn’t interested in the permanent role.
Having said that, Ganguly did not give up hope of The Wall’s affirmative answer and said that they will cross that bridge when they get to it.
    View this post on Instagram
“I understand he’s not interested (in the job) on a permanent basis.… But we haven’t asked him about it specifically. We will see when we come to it,” Ganguly told The Telegraph.
The world, and more importantly the fans of the Indian cricket team, got the taste of Dravid’s involvement with the team when he said yes to head-coaching the B-String of the Men in Blue during their T20I and ODI tour of Sri Lanka in July.

    — Rex Clementine (@RexClementine) July 23, 2021
Dravid has also been the head coach of the India U-19 and the India A squad before taking command of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru back in 2019. He is also often credited as the man who was behind structuring such a deep talent pool of young Indian cricketers that ensured a continuous supply for world-class athletes in the last 5 years and will continue to do so for at least 5 years more.
Whether Dravid will apply for the head coach’s position after Shastri’s tenure is over is a discussion for a later time. At the moment, it is Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s involvement as a ‘Mentor’ to the Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2021 which has led to analysts like Ajay Jadeja asking questions about the need of a mentor when the Men in Blue already have a coach in Shastri.
