Back in 2019, a woman singing Lata Mangeshkar’s ek pyaar ka nagma hai went viral after her video was recorded by someone at Ranaghat railway station. Little did anyone know that the power of the internet would accelerate the future of Ranu Mondal and she’d end up recording her first song with none other than Himesh Reshammiya. He gave her a break with her debut song Teri Meri Kahani and after going viral yet again for the song, Ranu managed to grace several  reality show stages before being criticised for her attitude and lack of professionalism.

Two years laters, a biopic is in the pipeline which will star actress Eshika Dey. Titled Ranu Maria, the movie will chronicle the life of a woman who is trying to make ends meet at a railway station before hitting fame. The actress opened up about her preparation for the role and said, “I’m going on a strict diet for 2 months, starting tomorrow with my dietician. Actually, this is the only thing about the film that I’m scared about. I love food and going by my social media posts, you will understand how much I love cooking and eating. I need to prepare myself because I need to relate myself with Ranu’s past life, which we are going to be focusing more on. To translate the story of a person who has been sitting on a station platform for 12 long years and singing-begging and then suddenly her video goes viral! While she does become a social media star but later she faced criticism and adversity due to certain comments.”

Furthermore, according to her interview with TOI, Himesh Reshammiya has been approached for the movie as well and might star in it if things work out. The movie is slated to release next year.
