For as long as one can remember Bollywood movies keep things simple by showing a clear distinction between good and evil, light versus the dark, in the form of a hero and a villain. As per tradition, the heroes are mainly stars like Shah Rukh, Salman, Akshay, Ajay Devgn, and others who fight against the big bad villains to save the day and the girl.
© Netflix
Now, while we hear whistles or hoots in cinema halls whenever these superstars satisfyingly beat up the villains, there are times when the tables are completely turned. What I mean to say is that there have been a few occasions when Bollywood's biggest stars have tried out a script where they opted to play the bad guy instead.
© Prime Video
Well, fortunately for viewers, they really succeeded in doing justice to their roles while making us actually root for the villain. Here are some of the renowned roles.
1. John Abraham In Dhoom (2004) © Prime Video
In the 2004 biking thriller Bollywood film Dhoom that starred Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, and Rimi Sen, John Abraham played the part of a perfect thief who robs banks, casinos, and whatnot, before racing away on bikes.
Now, while in the movie, Abhishek and Uday's characters were heroes, it was actually John whose mysterious and brooding character was the most likable. I mean, he practically robs banks, attempts to kill the hero, before taking his own life by riding his bike off the cliff. But despite all that, we are just left heartbroken that a wonderfully crafted character like that of John met an end like that.
2. Shah Rukh Khan In Don (2006) © Prime Video
The Farhan Akhtar directorial film, which was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan's Don (1978), saw Shah Rukh play a double role of Vijay and Don in the film.
However, unlike the hero Vijay, it was Shah Rukh's portrayal of Don which left fans impressed.
The way he had a ruthless instinct to the character while keeping him mysterious and complicated against Priyanka Chopra's character was why he will forever remain a true badass villain that we all loved watching.
3. Akshay Kumar In Ajnabee (2001) © Disney Plus Hotstar
The film had the star cast of Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Bipasha Basu, where Bobby played the role of the hero opposite Akki, who was the villain. Now, while we truly loved watching the thriller film with its share of twists and turns, it was Akshay's portrayal of the conman and murderer Vikram Bajaj that kept everyone glued to the edge of their seats.
Akshay, who has spearheaded the Khiladi movie franchise throughout his career by playing the hero in most movies, excelled in playing the villain and there was no way he'd miss out on this list.
4. Suniel Shetty In Main Hoon Na (2004) © Netflix
We loved watching this movie because of the amazing chemistry between SRK, Zayed Khan, and Amrita Rao, however, it was Suniel Shetty's portrayal of terrorist Raghavan that is still remembered by viewers. Suniel truly added a sense of style and authority to the character in a way that represented a strong opposition to SRK's character Ram.
I mean, he practically beat the sh** out of Ram in the movie, and had it not been for the good always winning over the evil, Raghavan truly might have won the battle.
5. Ranveer Singh In Padmaavat (2018) © Bhansali Productions
While the movie may have been marred by controversy, there was absolutely no denying that Ranveer Singh truly outdid himself by essaying the role of the menacing ruler Alauddin Khilji. From his look to his ruthlessness in the movie, everything about Ranveer's Khilji was majestic, and that was why fans, despite liking Shahid Kapoor, could not get their eyes off Ranveer in the movie.
It is no joke that Ranveer, for his preparation, actually locked himself in a room for 21 days and was forced to take the help of a psychiatrist to get out of the character. Well, it truly showed. Khilji will forever remain one of the most badass Bollywood villain portrayals.
6. Shah Rukh Khan In Darr (1993) © Prime Video
The movie was literally released 28 years ago, however, it is still remembered as one of SRK's best performances ever despite the hero in the movie being Sunny Deol. Sunny had been a renowned actor at the time while SRK was still finding his feet in the industry.
However, things really changed after SRK played the role of the psychopath Rahul Mehra. SRK was so good as the villain that he overshadowed Sunny in the movie, and as a result, Sunny Paji was even reported to having a disagreement with director Yash Chopra, where he ended up tearing the pockets of his own pants in anger. Do we need to say anything else?

Relationships can be fickle, especially in an industry as volatile as the Bollywood film industry. With its fast paced life and cut throat competition, it doesn’t afford much space for honest and sincere relationships to bloom. Most budding friendships in the entertainment world get nipped in the bud because of misunderstandings, jealousy and immaturity. Maintaining a public-facing facade becomes the norm as the authenticity of character is usually frowned upon.
Manoj Bajpayee has been a part of the Bollywood film industry since his debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya in 1998. Hailing from Bihar, the incredible actor has managed to forge for himself a noteworthy career. And the way things are going, his career seems to be ageing like fine wine. Although his talent had never been in doubt, Aligarh (2016) helped change people’s perception of the actor. With the Family Man series, Manoj Bajpayee finally proved his mettle as a bankable solo star.
Fellow Bihari talent, Pankaj Tripathi has come a long way too. Starting with a minor role in Run (2004), it would take another eight years for Pankaj Tripathi to finally have his moment under the sun. Gangs Of Wasseypur’s release in 2012 changed things for him. From an unnoticeable extra to an icon, his stint as Sultan Qureshi in the Anurag Kashyap helmed film made him a household name. His latest film Mimi (2021) has been lauded by critics and audiences alike.
So it was only natural for the internet to get elated when these two stalwarts of Indian cinema shared a frame. Their grounded and humble personalities make them all the more endearing for their fans.
Pankaj Tripathi and his wife, Mridula Tripathi hosted fellow craftsmen Manoj Bajpayee and Vineeth Kumar for dinner, as revealed via pictures shared by The Family Man actor on Sunday. Not only did Manoj Bajpayee enjoy catching up with old friends, but he also had kind words to say about the food served, “An evening with my old time senior & friend @VineetK00989283 and our dear @TripathiiPankaj at the latter’s (Pankaj’s) place for fish & rice !! What great hosts Pankaj and Mridula are !! फिर जल्दी मिलना होगा मीट भात के लिए!!”

Joining in on the social display of affection, Pankaj Tripathi shared photos from the evening on his account as well. Many pointed out that the utterly talented actors shared a Bihari connection that made things all the more sweeter, after all they’re also cultural icons for their fans.
https://t.co/MKcBjoqb8P pic.twitter.com/Dc7PF86e07
— पंकज त्रिपाठी (@TripathiiPankaj) September 4, 2021
It wasn’t too long ago that Pankaj Tripathi himself had been on the other side of the aisle, looking at Manoj Bajpayee in awe. The Masaan actor has been a fan of Bajpayee’s since his struggling days. He’s always viewed him as a senior and a role model. The two friends had shared a heartwarming anecdote about their relationship on The Kapil Sharma Show, back in 2019.
ज़िंदगी बहुत सारे उपहार रखती है मनोज भैया @BajpayeeManoj । "एकलव्य की तरह अगर मैं इनके खड़ाऊँ में अपना पैर डाल लूँगा" । https://t.co/Nb6iVuLzkl
— पंकज त्रिपाठी (@TripathiiPankaj) September 19, 2019
Pankaj Tripathi recalls the incident with a slight lump in his voice. It was during his days of struggle, back when Pankaj Tripathi worked as a kitchen supervisor. Being a theater aficionado, he was awestruck by Manoj Bajpayee’s sheer presence when the actor visited the hotel where the Mimi actor worked at. So when Manoj Bajpayee ended up forgetting his slippers at the hotel, Pankaj Tripathi kept it for himself as a memento to look up to.
It is incredible to see such beautiful camaraderie being shared by two highly talented actors. Goes on to show that despite all the hollow glamour that Bollywood peddles, there are still people with substance that exist. We’re all here for Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Bajpayee’s beautiful friendship.

Art and culture helps communities across the world connect with each other. Cinema, in particular, helps break barriers. For instance, we have seen many Pakistani shows and they probably have seen many Bollywood movies too. India and Pakistan might have a dark history but people connect on social media and share their mutual love for movies like Shah Rukh Khan’s DDLJ and Fawad Khan’s Zindagi Gulzar Hai.
There are a few Bollywood movies, however, that have been banned by the Pakistani government citing several reasons like cultural issues and showing the country in a bad light. Here’s a list of 5 such popular Bollywood movies banned by the country:
1: PadMan
Akshay Kumar’s movie PadMan is based on the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu and the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad. It addresses taboos surrounding menstruation in India. A movie like this should have been appreciated but the Pakistani government felt the topic of the movie was against culture and religion. "We can't allow our film distributors to import films which are against our traditions and culture," Federal Censor Board member Ishaq Ahmed told PTI.
2: Raanjhanaa
There was anyway nothing to be celebrated about Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor’s Raanjhanaa. It was celebrated as a love story but it glorified stalking. It was banned in Pakistan as they found Sonam Kapoor’s character problematic for the portrayal of a Muslim girl.
3: Baby
Akshay Kumar’s espionage thriller Baby, which centers around an Indian spy’s mission to capture a terrorist from a West Asian nation, has been banned in Pakistan for its negative portrayal of Muslims. A representative of the film's Pakistani distributor said, “Censor boards in Islamabad and Karachi have decided to ban the film because it portrays a negative image of Muslims and the negative characters in the film also have Muslim names.”
4: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Farhan Akhtar starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has been banned from releasing in the neighbouring country. The reason for the ban was one of Farhan's dialogues where he says: “Mujhse nahi hoga. Main Pakistan nahi jaonga.”
5: Phantom
Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif’s movie Phantom was banned because JuD chief and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed was portrayed in a negative light.

Despite establishing himself as one of the best white-ball batsmen of his generation, Rohit Sharma was not happy about something. Only a few players could dominate limited-overs cricket like he did but like every champion player Rohit was never pleased.
He was eager to make a mark in Test cricket at all cost. He made his Test debut in 2013 but always struggled to get a consistent run in the Playing XI due to various reasons, with his below-par performance also contributing a great deal.
© Twitter BCCI
However, that did not keep him from striving for more. He knew he had what it took to succeed in the traditional format and it was just a matter of time before he proved it to the world.
Since he was performing so well in the white-ball cricket, it was just hard for the selectors and team management to look past him and he forced their hands by scoring century after century during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. He was asked to open the innings in the home Test series against South Africa and rest, as they say, is history.
© Twitter BCCI
Call it a mere coincidence or destiny, Rohit’s international career, both ODI and Test, shot off only after he began opening the innings. It was as if the batter who spent all those years batting in the middle-order didn’t know what he was capable of doing and the promotion to the top of the order made him realise his true potential and the world got its new ‘Hitman’.
© Twitter BCCI
If the 2013 Champions Trophy was the turning point in his white-ball career, Rohit’s Test career got a lifeline in 2019 and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and hasn’t looked back since.
He dominated oppositions playing at home but many people still had their reservations about Rohit’s temperament to succeed away from home, especially outside the Indian subcontinent.
Rohit took a small step towards shutting their mouths by playing a couple of crucial knocks in Australia but his litmus Test was always going to be the England Test series.

It’s never easy for an explosive player like him to shed his natural instincts and play the waiting game. But Rohit was so determined to succeed in Test cricket -- a format his father loved the most -- that he made adjustments to his technique and his temperament.

He was getting the starts and scoring crucial fifties but wasn’t converting them into big scores. His critics used to point out that he hadn’t scored a Test hundred away from home. Well, It was a fact and we couldn’t argue it as much as we wanted.
© Twitter BCCI
The only way he could shut these critics once and for all was by scoring a century and he did exactly that in the fourth Test against England at the Oval. Rohit smashed his maiden overseas Test hundred, that too in style - hitting Moeen Ali over long-on for a six.
First century outside India for the Hitman!
He gets there with a monster six over long on!

From fans to cricket experts, this much-awaited hundred left everyone speechless. The way he was batting, it was inevitable and people couldn’t stop their tears of joy when it finally materialised.

— Tunku Varadarajan (@tunkuv) September 4, 2021The sun has risen. My man you did it once again. That is why I inspire u a lot. Your comebacks are something special, getting tears at the moment, no words to speak. Love u @ImRo45 #RohitSharma #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/RaajYuJmrQ
— Surya Rebel ᴿᵃᵈʰᵉˢʰʸᵃᵐ (@ThePullShot) September 4, 2021After this century, his critics have gone into hiding and understandably so. Indian fans would hope he continues to bat like the way he’s doing at the moment because there’s no better sight on a cricket field than watching Rohit Sharma batting in full flow.
