A visual treat, syncopated by masterful martial arts sequences, Shang-Chi is more than just another superhero movie. The latest entrant to the MCU has all the makings of a blockbuster hit.
Shang-Chi’s cultural relevance runs certain similarities to previous MCU blockbuster Black Panther. Black Panther shifted the lens from the West to Africa. Bringing in much needed diversity not just in representation, but in storytelling and visual artistry as well. Back then it was the late Chadwick Boseman who became the face of the cinematic renaissance. With the praise and buzz Shang-Chi is generating currently, Simu Liu promises to be the next icon, not token.
Welcome to the MCU, Shang-Chi. Congratulations, @SimuLiu. https://t.co/YiUpiHL22P

Shang-Chi’s sweet tweet was responded to by Captain Marvel herself. A welcome fit for the newest entrant to the MCU.

The martial arts sequences along with the incredible worldbuilding that Marvel is renowned for make Shang-Chi a spectacle.

The Shang-Chi storm has been well received by the people, despite the pandemic’s effects.

The most important part of #ShangChi to many of my colleagues is that it shows the West that Asians rock at the highest levels of entertainment.

For my fellow Asians, it's an immensely pivotal moment where we get to collectively share a well-earned and very deserved confidence.
    — Jimmy Wong (@jfwong) September 4, 2021
Shang-Chi has brought global audiences closer to Asia. Breaking the dominance that the West has had on superhero narratives. American actor and musician Jimmy Wong is excited about the relevance of Shang-Chi, a cultural boost to an entire community.

Shang-Chi is destined to be a hit. The film minted Rs. 3.5 cores on the first day itself, despite theaters being shut in Maharashtra. That’s a major source of theater going viewership in the country for any movie.

As mentioned earlier, the world building is one of the strong points of the film. If you’re someone who loves an immersive cinematic experience, then Shang-Chi has it all. The magnificent beasts in this movie are a sight to behold.
    I WATCHED #SHANGCHI!!!

It’s an amazing blend of East meets West! Hong Kong martial arts action comes to the #MCU & CHANGES THE GAME!!!

    It’s emotional, beautiful & HILARIOUS!

    This isn’t like ANY MCU film to date. WOW! #Marvel #MCU @shangchi @MarvelStudios @SimuLiu @awkwafina pic.twitter.com/iEEJ0v1DXA

Even though it might feel a little over explained, that's the burden that this movie can’t help but bear. An entire universe is being unveiled for the first time, so there are bound to be over-expositions and slight off hits. It’s a Marvel movie, unlike another Marvel movie.

When are you planning on watching Shang-Chi? Do you think it could be the next Black Panther, or even Iron Man? Do let us know your views and thoughts in the comments. We would love to hear your thoughts.

It’s been more than six years since MS Dhoni shocked the whole world by announcing his retirement from Test cricket in the middle of a series in Australia in 2014. His decision took his teammates and the whole cricket fraternity by surprise as nobody expected him to walk away from the longest format in the middle of the series.
    © Reuters
However, Dhoni had made up his mind and there was no going back for him. Talking about Dhoni’s shocking decision, Ravi Shastri, in his book, wrote that it didn’t make any sense at all, especially because he was so close to reaching the milestone that only few cricketers have crossed in the longest format.

“MS was India's, in fact the world's, biggest player then with three ICC trophies under his belt, including two World Cups, and some very impressive silverware from the IPL. His form was good, and he was just 10 matches shy of completing 100 Tests,” Shastri wrote in his book Stargazing: The Players In My Life.
    © Reuters
Few cricketers get a chance to play 100 Tests for their country and Dhoni was only 10 shy of reaching the landmark when he called time on his red-ball career. Shastri believed he was one of the fittest cricketers in the side and nobody would have stopped him from playing 100 Tests had he wanted to.

“Still one of the top-three fittest players on the team, he would have the opportunity to boost his career stats if nothing else. True, he wasn't getting any younger, but he wasn't that old either! His decision just didn't make sense,” he added.
    © Reuters
Dhoni had become synonymous with Indian cricket and like many of us, even Shastri couldn’t imagine an Indian team without Mahendra Singh Dhoni in it. He even tried to look for an opportunity to talk him out of retirement but Dhoni remained firm on his decision.

“All cricketers say landmarks and milestones don't matter, but some do. I approached the issue in a roundabout way, probing for an opening to make him change his mind. But there was a firmness to MS's tone that stopped me from pushing the matter any further. Looking back, I think his decision was correct; also brave and selfless,” Shastri wrote, praising Dhoni for making such a selfless and brave call, and putting the team ahead of himself.
"Giving up on the most powerful position in cricket in the world, in a way, couldn't have been easy," he added.
    © Reuters
We have seen established cricketers overstaying at the position of power and stretching their careers to an extent that people are forced to pressure them into retirement.

And here was a man who didn’t care about the personal milestone and always put the team ahead of himself. Besides his cricket skills, his selfless behaviour is why people love him so much.

Contrary to popular belief, one feeling that would unanimously bind all the people living in this country together would not be patriotism but the urge to pass judgement.
A sight as common as the potholes on Delhi roads, it is as though a verdict is waiting to pass literally for anyone and everyone, whether or not solicited.
    © Excel Entertainment
In fact, it can even be termed as a national pastime, with people (and most times our own parents) sparing no chance to scrutinize and discuss your every move.

A scenario that is no better for men, considering most Indian men are but raised on an unhealthy diet of taunts and curses that they receive for everything they do outside of societal norms. Even including getting a haircut that is not approved by the family first...
Here are a few things that men hate most for being judged on:
    1. How Much Money They Make
    via GIPHY
For some odd and sexist reason the amount of money a woman makes is never a topic of concern (unless she makes it more than her husband), but when it comes to a man, his success is only measured in terms of how much money he makes.
In fact, ever since they are little, men are pressured into minting money when they grow and those who don’t are often considered ‘losers’.
    2. Hox Sexually Active They Are © Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment
All it takes for a man to be branded a ‘f**kboi’ or a ‘casanova’ is having more than one sexual partner and bam, people start judging away.

Completely disregarding the fact that it is absolutely okay for a man to have a sexual appetite higher than others and cater to it, men are shunned as ‘perverts’ or ‘nymphomaniacs’ for simply liking ***.
    3. How Sexually Inactive They Are © Apatow Productions
The other side of the coin where men are also judged if they don’t have a sexual partner or even an experience.

‘Virgin’ is doled out as an insult rather than being respected as a choice and if you aren’t sexually active, it gives people yet another reason to pick on you.
    4. If They’re Unmarried
    via GIPHY
Not like it’s anyone’s business but people, especially the neighbourhood aunties and long lost relatives love to chime in and judge men for being unmarried.
For them, a man who is not married is not just unsuccessful or unsettled but also a disgrace to the family he comes from.
    5. If They Choose An Unconventional Career  © Excel Entertainment
The starting point for this may be choosing a different stream in class 11th as opposed to what your parents  wanted.

Somehow, every time a guy chooses to not join his dad’s business or follow in his footsteps to do something of his own, he is instantly condemned by the family. Rather than taking pride in their son striving to make his own life, they see it as a sign of rebellion.

Some actors in Bollywood and Hollywood, for example, Tiger Shroff and Tom Cruise, are adept at performing their stunts. They are trained enough to do it without the need of having a body double.
The concept of body doubles has become a norm in Bollywood, as these men and women make the lives of B-town stars easier.
Here are movies in which Bollywood actors have needed a body double:
    1. Katrina Kaif  © Instagram/Katrina_FC
Katrina had a few stunts in the song Bang Bang. But, if you look carefully, the scenes were performed by Katrina's body double.

Unfortunately, before shooting the song, the actress got cold feet doing the task and hence her replacement was utilised.
    2. Nandita Das  © YouTube/Masala
There were many sensual scenes in the movie Fire. As a result, it became quite a controversial film.

However, the intimate scenes in the movie were not performed by Nandita herself, but her body double.
    3. Hrithik Roshan © Instagram/Hrithik_FC
Hrithik Roshan also had his body double perform stunts for a few scenes in Mohenjo Daro. Even though the film tanked at the box office, the usage of a body double for Hrithik became a surprising part.

    4. Salman Khan © Instagram/Salmanfanclub
Salman Khan has also used many body doubles in several movies. Parvez Kazi has been a part of a few films as he has an uncanny resemblance with the actor.

However, for a scene in Sultan, another body double was used. In a scene where Salman is seen running behind a kite, in reality, it is someone else.
    5. Hema Malini © YouTube/Bollygossip
There wasn't a single scene where we thought Hema's iconic role as Basanti was played by someone else in Sholay. Although, yes, even Hema had a body double in the film named Reshma, who performed a few scenes.

    6. Varun DhawanBefore he ventured into Bollywood, Varun was seen as a body double in My Name Is Khan.

Even though SRK was in the lead role, Varun played Jimmy Sheirgill's body double in a scene. Recently, a page on Instagram shared the picture and everyone was stunned.
    7. Abhishek Bachchan © Instagram/Abhishek_Fc
Even Abhishek needed a stuntman in the movie Raavan. So, for the action scenes, his body double was used, as he had a similar physique to Junior Bachchan's.
    8. Shah Rukh Khan © Instagram/SRK
Shah Rukh Khan injured himself while shooting for Shakti. Hence, for Farhan Akhtar's Don, it became impossible for him to do dangerous stunt scenes. Hence a body double did the heavy sequences for the film.

Celebrity culture in India is toxic. There are no qualms about that. We have a tendency to peer with utmost voyeurism into the lives of the popular. Most of us might not realize it, because it’s been normalized by the media and the entertainment industry in general.
We look at them with such an awe that is almost intrusive, forgetting that at the end of the day, once they’ve shed the layers of their on-screen character, they’re still ordinary human beings. Ordinary enough to feel, hurt and even die the same way we do.
But somehow, we never afford them the dignity they deserve, not even in death. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic demise last year brought out the worst in a lot of people. Accusations flew, left, right and center. Without an iota of concern or decency for the death of a human being, and the people close to them.
In light of Sidharth Shukla’s untimely demise a few days back, there are similar patterns that can be seen emerging. His mother and sisters were troubled by the insensitive press, close friend Shehnaaz Gill was hounded for reactions to earn clicks. Their grief was turned into pantomime for TRPs.
Commenting on the tamasha that surrounds a celebrity’s demise, comedian Zakir Khan’s Instagram post has found resonance with several other celebrities. His poems express his disdain towards this entire culture we’re living in.
    View this post on Instagram
Translated to English, the poem highlights the apathy with which a celebrity’s death is treated,“They don't think of you as a human being. That’s why there aren't any lines or boundaries. Your corpse is not a body without a soul, but an opportunity to click pictures. As many as they can click. They’re like the people who try to steal crockery from houses burning in a riot. Because after that, what use will you be to them? At most, 10 pictures, five news pieces, three videos, two stories, one post. That's it.”
He continued, “That's why your death will only be a spectacle for them. Your crying mother is a show, your father, broken by the pain, is a show, your depressed sister, your brother who has lost all hope, anyone who loves you, is a show. It would have been another thing had you been alive. After you, your crying loved ones will satisfy their glutton. I'm just saying that this is the life you and I have chosen. Maybe you will regret it a little less if you remember this while you are alive. That's why you should stay happy with your friends, love your people. Learn new things, make new relationships. Just don't live for them. Whatever time you have left, live for yourself. Because for them, you aren't even human.”
Prominent actor Anushka Sharma was one of the earliest to share this heartbreaking dirge on her social media.
Composer Vishal Dadlani, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and actor Gauhar Khan are among a few of the celebrities who left messages of agreement and grief on Zakir’s post.
In fact, Gauhar Khan had criticized the insensitivity with which our nation’s media houses approached this sombre situation, "This is shameful! The media houses all alike should be ashamed of this kind of coverage! Hang your heads if this is what you do to someone who has lost a loved one! Be ashamed, very ashamed. All media houses, you are only about sensationalizing even tragedy."

Sidharth Shukla is survived by his mother and sisters. His memory lives on through millions of his fans as well. But let’s take this moment to introspect the lack of dignity shown to him since his untimely passing on Thursday, aged 40.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was one of the greatest players of his generations. Apart from hitting towering sixes, Dhoni was also capable of turning matches around from behind the stumps. He was exceptionally quick behind the wickets and holds the world record for the fastest stumping.
    © Reuters
From his batting to wicket-keeping skills, everything about him was unorthodox yet very effective and that is what helped him become a modern-day great. Apart from hard work and dedication, there can’t be any fixed explanation as to what made him this successful at the international level for such a long time.

However, even though he has retired from all formats of international cricket, people still find ways to describe his effectiveness both behind and in front of the stumps in their own style.
“Only for a fraction of a second and Dhoni, like lightning, had those bails off.”

Happy birthday to one of the sharpest keepers in cricket history pic.twitter.com/WNwxngwx5E
    — ICC (@ICC) July 7, 2021
Like many of us, current India head coach Ravi Shastri, who saw the former Indian skipper prosper in front of his eyes, is a fan of Dhoni’s wicket-keeping abilities. However, in his new book, Shastri wrote that he would not advise any youngster to copy Dhoni’s technique as it’s not something that can be taught.
    © Reuters
“MS is an unorthodox cricketer. His technique, in front of and behind the stumps, is not easily replicable. My suggestion to youngsters is don't try imitating him unless it comes naturally. What made him so successful were his splendid hands. They were quicker than a pickpocket's!” Shastri wrote in his new book Stargazing: The Players In My Life.

“No other wicketkeeper, at least in the era MS has played, was that fast. He was the best in the world for a long while, and in white-ball cricket by a long distance,” he added.
    © Reuters
Some people weren’t happy with the fact that Shastri compared Dhoni’s skills with a pickpocket. They even suggested better alternatives that would have helped him put across his thoughts with the same effectiveness.

    Comparison of DHONI with Pickpocket

Shastri bewda hai aaj pata chala

He could have compared with Lightening / thunder / nano seconds, eye blink etc.

    — San. (@294li) September 4, 2021The fact that Dhoni’s career overlapped with some of the best wicket-keepers of all-time, including Kumar Sangakkara,, Adam Gilchrist and Mark Boucher, and yet he was regarded as the best of them all, speaks volumes about how good he was.

Dhoni might have retired from international cricket but his fans would see him step on the field once again when the Indian Premier League 2021 resumes in the United Arab Emirates later this month.

He might not be the same batsman that he once was but he continues to be as lethal behind the stumps as before and we shouldn’t be surprised if he turns back the clock later this month.
