Cricket is a funny game. Last week India registered one of their most memorable wins on English soil at Lord’s, and a week later the same side suffered one of their worst defeats of recent times, losing by an innings and 76 runs.
After they conquered Lord’s, experts from all over the world hailed this side as one of the best Indian teams ever but those very experts have now found multiple weaknesses within the team.
More than the loss, the manner in which India failed to put up a fight has taken many of us by surprise as nobody expected them to capitulate the way they did and lost the match in just over three days.

Many would find it hard to digest but the victory at Lords was one of the reasons why Virat Kohli and his team lost so badly in Leeds. Now before you take out your sword and chase us down, just read on.
No doubt the Lord’s triumph was a big deal but we must not forget the reason why it was celebrated on such a large scale. Going into the final day, the hosts were in a commanding position and if not for our tail-enders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami’s record ninth-wicket partnership, we probably would have lost the match.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is famous among Indian supporters for his annoying predictions but for once, we feel, he is right. Vaughan, in his long Facebook post, analysed the performance of both the sides and reasoned why Kohli’s team failed terribly within a week after winning at Lord’s.

He argued that the win at the Home of Cricket gave Team India a “false sense of security” and they forgot the troubles their batters had to endure on the first four days, before Bumrah and Shami caused a mayhem and tilted the tide in their favour.

“India for whatever reason did not have the determination and right mindset. They have been aggressive and confrontational, but when you do that you have to deliver as well, and they did not,” Vaughan wrote on Facebook.

“Surely they have to pick Ravi Ashwin next week. You cannot have four rabbits from 8-11. The resistance at Lord’s lulled them into a false sense of security about their tail. In reality, they cannot have Mohammad Shami coming in at eight,” he added.
Micheal Vaughan on Cricbuzz about Ajinkya Rahane's Place in the team

“Rahane is an issue. And I think when see you these things happening, you have to make changes. England made changes, they got rid of Crawley, they got rid of Sibley. I think India need to make changes. England need to see a different face or two at the Oval,” Vaughan said in a Cricbuzz video.
“I mean Rahane, is he being backed because of his vice-captaincy? Is he being backed because he played some outstanding innings in the last few years? but consistency-wise, he just doesn’t seem to find it,” said the former England skipper.

With the fourth Test starting next week on September 2, Team India doesn’t have much time to make things right and they can’t afford another spineless performance because one more loss would give England an unassailable lead in the series.
