The third Test between India and England at Leeds’ Headingley Carnegie cricket ground is not going according to plan for the touring side as Joe Root and Co. are already enjoying a 345-run lead at the end of the second Day.
However, there was a moment during Thursday’s gameplay when Mohammed Shami scalped Jonny Bairstow for 29 runs in the 108th over. Shami delivered a length ball and Bairstow gave into his temptation and nudged it a little. The outside edge was thick enough to create a deviation.
Shami gets his second wicket of the day, dismissing Bairstow for 29.

Tracing to the lower left side of Virat Kohli standing at first slip, the skipper did well to go low and secure the catch to pause England at 350/4.
As soon as he captured the catch, Kohli could be seen celebrating with opener batsman Rohit Sharma who was standing right next to him. The two embraced for a while and it was all smiles from both the parties.
The fans of the two of the biggest names of Indian cricket at the moment used this interaction as an excuse to troll the haters who are ardent believers of a potential rift between Kohli and Sharma in the dressing room.

The rumours of Kohli and Sharma disliking each other have been going on for years with speculators finding minute issues to give credibility to the theory. For instance, it became a huge talking point when Rohit Sharma unfollowed Virat Kohli’s wife and actor Anushka Sharma on Instagram back in 2019.
However, the two cricketers have rubbished all such stories on multiple occasions. Earlier this year, a source closer to the team had told The Times of India that the two had talked out their differences and in a lot more sync now.

"A great deal of personal bonding has happened in recent weeks and they're more in sync now than ever with regards to their cricket, the team, their responsibilities and the upcoming challenges. They understand now, more than ever, that the team will only benefit if they find themselves on the same page. This has been the biggest takeaway in the last four months," the source told TOI after India won the Australia and England Test series to start the year.
"They've spent a lot of time talking to each other in public, like during the post-match presentation at the end of the T20 series. They've been appearing in photographs together a lot more than in the past. During the One-day series, Virat made it a point to keep his discussions on with Rohit constantly during the game. These things would happen earlier too, but this one time they've decided to make it more visible for outsiders to know that all this chatter now needs to stop," added the source.

The first two days of the third Test between India and England have been absolutely disappointing for Virat Kohli and his boys. After winning the toss, the touring side chose to bat first and got dismissed for just 78 runs. Furthermore, they went wicketless until England had already scored 135 runs in the first innings.
On Day two, the bad run continued series debutant Dawid Malan struck 70 and skipper Joe Root once again scored a century in the middle, while helping his side cross the 400-run match. By the time the day got over, England were sitting on 423/8 with a massive 345-run lead to enjoy.

And while these numbers suggest that the third Test is almost out of the hands of the Men in Blue, it looks even worse on Virat Kohli’s resume who was once again schooled by James Anderson and had to walk back to his dressing room with just 7 runs off 17 balls.
Following a stunning victory against the hosting side at London’s Lord’s cricket ground in the second Test, Virat Kohli had spoken about how any touring side should never underestimate the dynamic conditions in England.

"You can never say in England that now you are set (on pitch). You have to put your ego in your pocket. The conditions are not same as it is in other places where you reach 30-40 and know that you can pick balls for your shots," he said.
"You have to bat the same way you bat for your first 30 runs and then repeat the same template till it is possible. This discipline and patience is required in England.

"If you are not patient in England you can get out at anytime, no matter how experienced you are or how many runs you have under your belt. You need good decision making because, conditions in England are toughest in the world, in my opinion," he said.
Ironically, something similar happened to Kohli when he was batting at the extremely swing friendly pitch at Leeds. Losing his patience against Anderson, Kohli chose to play a sloppy cover drive and ended up giving a simple outside edge to wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.

Now, Former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh has opined that the skipper should have listened to his own advice and struck to the crease for a little bit longer before going for relatively flashier shots.
“Before the Test match, Virat Kohli had said that in these English conditions you’ve got to keep your ego in your pocket. And I think that is absolutely right. If he tries to dominate, like Virat Kohli usually does, these are not the pitches where he can bat like that,” Singh said.

"He needs to spend some time there, like he did on the previous tour where he scored almost 600 runs. Once you know the pace and know how much the ball is seaming around, they you can carry on playing your shots," he added.
