Indian men’s hockey team ended their 41-year old wait for an Olympic medalΒ as they defeated Germany 5-4 in an exhilarating match to clinch the bronze medal at Tokyo 2020.Β
Before this, India’s last Olympic medal in Hockey came more than four decades ago when they finished on top of the podium at the 1980 Moscow Games.

Indian players knew how big of a match it was and they played as if their lives depended on it and produced perhaps their best performances of the tournament and ended their Olympic medal drought.

    Brilliant in Blue
Congratulations Indian Men’s #Hockey Team on the spectacular victory to give us an Olympic medal after 41 long years. This historic win at #Tokyo2020 will inspire generation of sportspersons. All the very best for future. #Cheer4India @thehockeyindia

Germany, known for their defensive structure, began the match with high intensity, thinking to take India by surprise and to some extent, succeeded in doing that, with Timur Oruz breaking the deadlock in the second minute of the opening quarter.Β
Simranjeet Singh scored the equaliser to pull things back but the Germans continued playing with their high tempo and pounced on two defensive errors by Indian players and scored two quick goals to go 3-1 up.Β

But from there on something clicked and Indian players took charge of the game and finished the quarter with the scores level at 3-3.Β Β

India scored two more goals in the third quarter to take a two-goal lead for the first time in the match and then closed out the match in the final with their astute defending.Β
People were crushed when the Indian men’s hockey team had failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Games and couldn’t win a single game four years later in Rio and finished last in their group.Β Β
But this win has definitely proved every critic wrong and began a new chapter in the history of Indian hockey.Β

In a cricket-mad country like India, other sports never get the kind of limelight they deserve but such wins would help change this trend and inspire the next generation of players to take up hockey sticks and become a professional.Β

Describing the achievement as historic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this victory would remain etched in the memory of every Indian fan in every corner of the world.Β
Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian.

Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for bringing home the Bronze. With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our Hockey team.

β€” Ishant Sharma (@ImIshant) August 5, 2021Β Indian men’s hockey team had defeated Great Britain 3-1 and reached their first Olympic semi-finals after more than 40 years. However, their progress was halted by a strong Belgium side who booked a place in the final with a 5-2 win.

More than this medal, the biggest win perhaps was the fact that billions of Indians set up alarms for the early morning kick-off and remained glued to their TV sets, something which was hard to imagine until last month.

Actor model Rahul Dev recently revealed that he felt guilty while dating Mugdha Godse after the demise of his wife. He also expressed that after his son was aware of his relationship, then he felt no need of hiding the relationship from the world.

He also admitted that the only time he felt hesitant in admitting to the relationship was when he came to his son, Siddhant.
Rahul Dev was previously married to Reena Dev, who passed away in the year 2009.

Recently, in an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Rahul said, β€œWhen I was married, I never used to hide the fact that I was married. I hadn't even done a film at that time. There are very few things in life that are real. Everything else is... There is a work dream that you're chasing, there are some other things, everyone has passions. That whole fabric of life if you weave together, if there is someone who is important to you, I can't understand why I would want to hide them. The only point where I would initially sort of struggle is I didn't know how my son's going to react. But when he knows, then there's no point."

He was then asked if he had any hesitations about entering into a relationship with Mugdha, he elaborated, β€œI think anybody who's had a fantastic first relationship would always feel if this is correct, in this day and age... There is a gap, in terms of years. So I used to feel if this is proper on my part. There were many things. You have a next in line, he was very, very young. And the other side of the family. You'd feel that you would hurt them by moving on with your life."

Mugdha also revealed that Rahul was very upfront about everything. She said, β€œIt gradually sunk in, and those are the qualities you start liking, the honesty, that straightforwardness, the care for people."

Contrary to how the Indian cricket team has been starting its Test series in the recent past, Virat Kohli’s squad saw significant success on Day 1 of the first Test match against England at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge.
Wrapping up the hosts for just 183 runs in the first innings, Indian openers ended the day with 21 runs on the board with the hopes of carrying on with the momentum and hopefully winning the first red-ball match to take a 1-0 lead.

As it turns out, the day began on a much higher note, not just for the Indian skipper but also for some of his fans from the opposing side, who got something incredible from Kohli, before the match kicked off.
According to a post shared by Twitter user, Robert Burns, Kohli gave away all sorts of exciting merchandise to his baby boy Lucas, who is a very big fan of the Indian skipper and was smiling from ear to ear while holding one of the autographed shoes in his hands.
Thank you from Lucas Burns @imVkohli you have made an excited boy very happy!! Spikes from the nicest global superstar!!@MacclesfieldCC @kingsmaccricket pic.twitter.com/5DcH68fhDD

β€œThank you from Lucas Burns @imVkohli you have made an excited boy very happy!! Spikes from the nicest global superstar!!” Robert wrote on the micro-blogging website while sharing the picture of his son with the memorabilia.
It didn’t take long for Team India fans to come across such a special picture online and they did not hold back in showing their friendly envy towards the little boy for getting Virat Kohli’s shoes.

β€” Rahul Aryan (@jaikishor_jai) August 4, 2021The great man loves kids, everywhere he goes, kids used to love him, maybe UNCLE VIRAT's aggression attracts them the most, maybe the kids found his animated body language, chest thumping a thing to cherish,Virat Kohli is the Christiano Ronaldo of Ckt..he carries that same attitude
β€” BOARDS DON'T HIT BACK..BUT I WILL.. (@37b77bf60ebf465) August 4, 2021Reason Virat Kohli is most popular cricketer in the World @daniel86cricket
β€” Mobin Buchad (@MobinBuchad6) August 4, 2021One of these will become a superstar and @absycric will rt it years later , stage set. https://t.co/RrKpJBWyoH
β€” Yash Borse (@boresay_22) August 4, 2021Generally, Virat Kohli continues to don the attitude of an angry, young man who stays completely dialed in and focused on the match. His howling and shouting can become a little disturbing and even nerve-wracking for a few of his friends. The English kid may or may not be able to understand the true value of that gift at the moment.
Having said that, there are still four days and three innings to play and they are still trailing by 162 runs. Based on Virat Kohli’s super strenuous press conference with the poor journalists, he understands what he needs to do to get the win. Day 2 begins at 3:30 PM India time.
