It is 2021, the world is advancing forward, the lines between religious and caste paradigms are falling apart as people start believing that humanity is the biggest religion after all. However, there is still a certain strata of the society that refuses to open up the door of their beliefs and even allow a humane thought to breed around them.
India’s melodious victories at the Tokyo Olympics have made us all dance to the tunes of patriotism and shower our heroes with love and praises, but like two sides of the same coin, there is a darkness that dims the light and takes away these accolades.
Less than a week ago we were chanting Chak De India after our Indian women’s hockey team beat Australia to enter the semi-final. The team lost the semi-finals to Argentina but not before giving a tough fight, which was reason enough for us to celebrate.
Vandana Katariya plays as forward in the team and post this match, her family had to pay a weird price for basically being her family. Post the match, a lot of people started bursting crackers outside their house and when they spotted her family, cateist slurs and abuses were shouted at them. The men in question mentioned that we lost the match because the team “too many Dalit players” .
© Twitter
“We were upset after the loss. But the team went down fighting. We were proud of that. Suddenly, right after the match, we heard loud noises. Crackers were being burst outside our house. When we went outside, we saw two men from our village -- we know them and they are upper castes -- dancing in front of our house”, Vandana’s brother Shekhar told TOI.
Ironically sports in India lacks the sportman spirit in the citizens itself and lately, the ongoing Olympics has brought forward the ugly head of how many Indians perceive caste and color to still be a deciding factor of one’s fate. This incident has a lot of people sharing their anger and resentment on social media.
Reality of India for those seeking to deny caste identity. “Upper caste” men abuse women’s hockey team member shouting “too many Dalit players”. #DalitLivesMatter #womenshockey pic.twitter.com/sK8YJXlBlk
— Sagarika Ghose (@sagarikaghose) August 5, 2021a country where cricketers like Vinod Kambli and Palwankar Baloo face discrimination bcoz of their caste. Google searches for PV Sindhu’s caste jumps up after she wins. and Vandana Katariya’s family has to deal with casteist abuses, after scoring a hat-trick. is this merit?
— Agatha Srishtie (@SrishtyRanjan) August 5, 2021Family of Vandana Katariya, India’s 1st woman to score hattrick at Olympics, faced casteist slurs bcos they are Dalits
Police under BJP Govt in U'khand are yet filed a FIR
But once she wins a medal, Modi will pose with her for photos & godi media will tell how he inspired her!
— Srivatsa (@srivatsayb) August 5, 2021We, as a country, owe an apology to Vandana Katariya & her family. Vandana is India's best hockey player & deserves to be supported with love & respect, not abused with caste insults & slurs. Being a Dalit is not a crime. Shame on those UC monsters, we Dalits are proud of Vandana
— Sankul Sonawane (@Sankul333) August 5, 2021I don’t know if an apology would suffice or an FIR against the people who harassed her family would serve a bigger purpose, but on a national level, one needs to fathom that how low are we stooping as a society. Since when did a person’s caste and color determine what and how they can achieve anything in life.
While so many of us are privileged and probably haven’t faced such level of discrimination, it is heartbreaking to see that a sports hero, who is literally representing a country and trying to win for her nation, has to not just face this kind of treatment, but her family is also not spared from being blamed for her caste. This is sad, and unbelievable.

India’s run-machine Virat Kohli is considered to be one of the best batsmen of the modern generation and he has earned the status by scoring runs all over the world on a consistent basis.
But there was a time when the Indian skipper was going through a lean patch in his career and the runs were hard to come by. The 2014 tour of England was perhaps the darkest phase of his career as he struggled throughout the series and could only score 134 runs.
© Twitter SkySports
Despite going through a tough time, Kohli kept believing in his skills and bounced back like a true champion and shut all his critics by scoring four Test centuries in Australia a few months later.
Kohli sat down with Dinesh Karthik ahead of the five-Test series against England and reflected on what went through his mind after 2014 disappointment.
Karthik, who is a part of the commentary panel in England, revealed an interesting anecdote about Kohli from 2014.
The former KKR skipper recalled how he had sent Kohli a message to console him but was after a disappointing tour but his reply left him
“When you were going through what you went through in 2014, I remember I sent you a message saying ‘don’t worry Virat a lot of players have gone through, you’ll get over it and you said ‘just wait and watch in a couple of months time’,” Kartik told Kohli, reminding him about the old incident during a SkySports interview.
“‘I thought jeez, what a cocky guy he is. (He) can’t put bat to ball and (is) saying wait and watch in two months’ time.’ You go to Australia and you show what it is. It’s not like you wanted to show it to me,” said Karthik, which drew huge laughter from the Indian captain.

“That’s who I am. That’s who I have always been. The background of my journey not many people know about. I have always and always relied on myself what I can do as an individual first and then I’ll take help along the way, and people who have been open to help me and help me understand who I really am have been the ones who have been the closest to me,” Kohli replied.
“When my back is against the wall, there is only one way for me and that’s forward and I’ll do everything in my power to fight my way up again,” he explained.
KING KOHLI: COMING SOON ON SKY SPORTS!
India captain Virat Kohli speaks exclusively to @DineshKarthik in a wide-ranging interview, discussing what the England series means to him ( much more!

— Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) August 2, 2021
Kohli kept his word and made the world take note of skills when he toured Australia a few months later. He smashed four centuries and dominated the Australian fast bowlers throughout the series.
It is no secret that Indian skipper loves challenges and beating England in their own backyard is one of the most difficult things to achieve in international cricket.
Given his past record, we know for sure that he’ll give his all to help India win their first Test series in the UK since 2007.

The Ace Attorney series is part comedy, part suspenseful and part visual novel for players who want to sit back, relax and play a game that doesn’t require you to mash buttons. While the Great Ace Attorney Chronicle does tick most of the boxes I’ve mentioned, it’s more of a serious take on the series set in the past.
© Capcom
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is set in the Japanese Meiji period or the Victorian Period for the Western world where you play as Ryunosuke Naruhodo, an ancestor of the series’ main protagonist Phoenix Wright (Ryuichi Naruhodo). The game takes history quite seriously and tells stories that are true to the period which wasn’t something I was expected.
In fact, I expected the game to be localised for more western tastes but I love the fact The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles celebrates its Japanese heritage, language and culture. It may feel a bit jarring at first however since I know a bit about Japan; I felt right at home. There were some occasions where I felt out of place as it requires a bit of knowledge about the Japanese language which I somewhat solved by Googling things.
© Capcom
However, the game is also is a bit weird as it also offers a mix of British Victorian characters that I might say have been portrayed well. For starters, the British characters are quite cynical and didn’t shy away from showcasing their racist characteristics either. For example, Japanese characters in the game are often not trusted by white British Jury members simply because they look different. There’s even a prosecutor who keeps hurling slurs at them only because of how they look.
© Capcom
It made me feel a bit uncomfortable however the game does deal with these social issues with grace. To be honest, I’m surprised that Capcom even went this route especially since the series is not known for making social commentaries. It was a bold move to include racist nuances in characters from a time when racism was normal.
While the game does an excellent job at dealing with serious problems, it does an equally good job at its presentation, character build-up and animations. Backgrounds are extensively detailed and some of the animations surpasses every game that has been released in the series before. Each character also has unique dialogues and their own personas. Capcom’s attention to detail is at great display here especially when you start noticing the different nuances of each character you come across.
© Capcom
The game also pays homage to Sherlock Holmes as several characters from the detective series make an appearance. As an attorney, you also have to investigate cases like a detective where you will be searching for clues and interrogating witnesses. I do have to point out that you will need to do a lot of text reading and almost all of it is important. You will be required to pull up evidence from your searches and interviews when in court so you can’t really glance over these parts.
Having said that, the payoff here is the great storytelling where some cases are hilarious in true Ace Attorney fashion while some are heart-wrenching. If you’ve ever seen Suits or any Court Drama TV series, you will get the same sensation here when you blow a case wide open after presenting damning pieces of evidence or contradicting testimonies.
© Capcom
The game is largely a visual novel; however, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles lets you play any case in any order. There are 10 cases to solve in total however if you just want to experience the game as a visual novel, you can do that too. There’s a new story mode where the game is played by the AI automatically. It will automatically run through the dialogue text and even choose the right evidence for you.
Completing the 10 cases will last you 40 hours which is quite a bit of content considering this is more like a visual novel. I often found myself relaxed while playing The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles once I was done playing Persona 5 Royal for the day. I played this game on the PlayStation 5 where the game looked astoundingly beautiful. However, I do think this game will be best experienced on a handheld device i.e. a Nintendo Switch so that you can play it while laying in bed or on an aeroplane.
The Final Say The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is probably the best game in the series so far that offers some incredible twists, hilarious moments and loveable characters. It’s a more serious game than its predecessors which in my opinion should be the way forward for the series. With over 40 hours worth of content in 10 scintillating cases, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is perfect for some laidback gaming.

Recently, a mob was seen attacking a Hindu temple in Pakistan's Punjab province, and the video of the despicable act has left a lot of people enraged.
The group not only burned down the temple but also desecrated the idols, reports state.
This happened at the Siddhivinayak temple, situated in the Bhong city of Rahim Yar Khan District. This place is around 500 Km from Lahore.
According to reports, the police mentioned that the attack came after the alleged desecration of a Muslim seminary.

The violence began on Wednesday after a post on social media went viral in which the people of Bhong city were seen taking revenge for the alleged desecration.
Later on, the mob stepped out with iron rods, stones, bricks, and other heavy materials and were seen outside the temple in a group and started the attack.
To bring the situation under control and to protect around 100 Hindu families, the Pakistan Rangers were called in as a security measure.
Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani posted the video of the attack on Twitter and asked the law enforcement agencies to stop the violence.

Dr Ramesh Kumar wrote, "Attack on Hindu temple at Bhong City District Rahimyar Khan Punjab in a series of tweets. The situation was tense since yesterday. Negligence by local police is very shameful. Chief Justice is requested to take action.”
He also added that strict action should be taken against the mob. Meanwhile, Police have been deployed to thwart any further damage.
District Police Officer (DPO) Rahim Yar Khan Asad Sarfraz said, "Our first priority is to restore law and order and provide protection to the minority community."

He also spoke about how a minor boy, who had allegedly desecrated the library, was arrested last week and was booked, but he was released since he was a minor. He further added, "We will arrest those miscreants who incited people to attack the temple."
Goes without saying that this development left a lot of people angry. Here are some reactions:

Bollywood movies have given us some dialogues that are memorable and we keep on using them year after year in our regular lives. However, some dialogues don’t make any sense and are just embarrassing.
We are not talking about the iconic dialogues from films, we are talking about cringeworthy illogical dialogues from films that just want to make us cry.
So, here we go-
1. Zindagi mein teen cheezen kabhi underestimate mat karna - I, me and myself
Movie- Ready
The film revolved around how Salman Khan falls in love with a stranger who ran away from her wedding and strategically becomes part of Salman’s family. The dialogues in the film are illogical and in name of funny, all we get is ‘lame’ dialogues.
But, out of all, this one won as this doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
2. Hum ek baar jeete hai, ek baar marte hai, shaadi bhi ek hi baar hoti hai...aur pyar bhi ek hi baar hota hai
Movie: Kuch Kuch Hot Hai
Nothing in this life happens once. It depends on people’s choices and what they want to do. These days people have multiple partners and remarrying is normal and some of us die every day because our bosses don’t understand mental health.
So, liar Rahul, shut up, please! Also, not to forget, Rahul falls in love twice as well as gets married twice in the movie. What were you thinking, Mr Director?
3. Dosti ka ek rule hai. No sorry. No thank you.
Movie- Maine Pyaar Kiya
This rule doesn’t make any sense at all. Like if your friend does something good for you, you’d want to thank them and then if they hurt you, you’d definitely expect a ‘sorry’ and you’d want them to apologize.
4. Joh main bolta hoon woh main karta hoon...joh main nahi bolta woh main definitely karta hoon.Movie- Rowdy Rathore
What are you trying to convey by this dialogue? Even the audience is super confused about this one!
5. Andhere ko andhera nahi, sirf roshni mita sakti hai. Nafrat ko nafrat nahi, sirf pyaar mita sakta hai.
Movie: Ek Villain
So, by this dialogue, it is only logical to think that we should fall in love with someone who hates us and every time we feel darkness, maybe just turn the light on?
Now, if this isn’t illogical then what is? Let us know in the comments section below!

Bollywood has a serious problem of snubbing real talent and good actors most of the time because it is blinded by nepotism and obsessed with glamour.
However, the persistent ones who thrive on big dreams, make their way into this fickle and unfair industry.
Case in point, actor Manoj Bajpayee.
© Instagram/Manoj Bajpayee
He didn’t just survive in Bollywood but is known to be one of the best and critically acclaimed actors in Hindi cinema. He even won three national awards for his performances.
When you see a promo of a new web series or movie that stars him, you know this will be worth watching and automatically add it to your list.
© Netflix
However, it wasn’t easy for Manoj. It’s hard to believe that such a brilliant actor like him had to wait more than two decades to get his due in Bollywood.
“It has definitely not been a bed of roses.” he said in an interview recently where he opened up about struggling and surviving in Bollywood.
© Eros International
He said, “All I will say is that I had quite a lot of ups and downs, it was a roller-coaster ride. I would never wish that anybody else gets into my shoes because the 25 years have only been a struggle to get films and good roles.”
© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
He talked about how competitive this industry is but he finally made it through.
“What is bygone is bygone but at the same time, the industry has been a very competitive and cutthroat one. Anybody who is trying to come up with loads of self-respect and belief in his dreams, there will be people who will turn into enemies.”
“They will expect you to work according to their dreams but in the manner I have been brought up, I was not ready to live their dreams, I was only here to live my own. It all clashed. Finally, I survived for 25 years in this industry,” he said.
© Prime Video
He also described how he survived politics and opposition in Bollywood to reach where he is today.
“I am trying to evolve as an actor and person all the time, learning new tricks of the craft, honing my skills and trying to be a part of new storytelling. This is what I have always done and what I am doing right now. I am quite happy that by the grace of God, my journey has been miraculous. I survived all the politics, the blind items, all kinds of powerful opposition, and I am here. And I will be here till I would like to be. I am a tough nut to crack,” he said.
And surely, he is. He also said he might pen down his journey in cinema. “Someday, I will write my autobiography, then you will come to know what it was like.” And, we can’t wait for it.

The Indian cricket team seem to have a promising start to the first of five Test matches against England as they ended up dismissing the entire English batting order for 183 on Day 1 at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge.
After a long time, it was Jasprit Bumrah who looked like his prime-self as he became the key aspect of the Indian bowling attack and scalped four wickets, including those of opener Rory Burns, and Jos Buttler.
View this post on Instagram
Having said that, one of the biggest talking points about India’s Playing XI for the first Test (which was revealed just moments before the toss), was the absence of veteran Ravichandran Ashwin despite clearly being one of the most important players for Virat Kohli’s side in the recent red-ball matches.
Ashwin was replaced by southpaw Ravindra Jadeja for the spot of the bowling all-rounder, who ended up bowling just three overs while giving away 11 runs as the lone spinner on the day. While fans were unsure of the Indian skipper’s decision to replace Ashwin with Jadeja, the legendary Harbhajan Singh felt it was the right move.
View this post on Instagram
“I guess if you would have played Ashwin, the tail would have been very long. You didn’t know how much spin in fact will be used. Jaddu has bowled three out of 50 overs till tea,” Singh told PTI on Day 1. “So overs that you will use spin, Jaddu can bowl those overs. And why do we jump to conclusion that Jaddu can’t be used as a lone spinner.”
“And if you look at overseas performances, Jaddu has been a better batsman and has a solid presence in the lower order," Bhajji said. “And is it so that Jaddu hasn’t taken wickets? It’s the first Test of the series, you want to win but at the same time, you would like to also have your defence prepared. You don’t want to concede advantage on batting front and I feel it’s fine if the team management thinks that way."
View this post on Instagram
“Ideally, if you think that Ashwin is your front-line spinner then he should have played. But if the team management feels that Ashwin’s presence makes the lower middle order a bit light, then perhaps they should be allowed to explore that angle too."
“If you look at overseas records, there isn’t much to choose between Ash and Jaddu. Yes, you would feel hard done by if you have just picked six wickets for Surrey. But the considerations of Test cricket are different… Obviously, with six wickets in last first-class game, he was bound to be confident. But you also don’t want a situation, where you are 75 for 5 and Ashwin is walking into bat."

It’s bizarre to see men in their 50s are romancing women half their age on screen. All the viewers get to see actors like Salman Khan or Ajay Devgn or Shah Rukh Khan playing quite younger roles and it’s a common thing to see that they are cast opposite actresses who are more than 10 to 15 years younger than them.
Earlier Dia Mirza had shared her opinion on the widening age gap between actors and actresses. She had said, “The industry is male-dominated. Older men like to be cast alongside young actresses to extend their shelf life. It is extremely bizarre to see 50-year-old actors being cast opposite 19-year-old actresses.”
Now, Abhay Deol has raised his voice against this and he has always voiced his opinions on Bollywood’s biases and wrong-doings. Well, Abhay is playing a father to a teenage girl in his next venture, Disney's Spin.
View this post on Instagram
Here are the three arguments that he shared in a conversation with Bollywood Life:
1. When asked if he has any qualms about playing a father on screen, he said that he is secure as an actor. He said, “If I had to have qualms about anything then I would have had them 10-12 years ago doing what I was doing in Bollywood. I have never really held back, I am quite secure in who I am and where I come from. The Netflix show that I am doing spans 20 years, I go from 39 to 59. I can play my age, I can play 10-12 years younger still, so I am just having fun.”
View this post on Instagram
2. He said it’s okay to play your age and do roles that are within your age bracket. He said, “As long as people are convinced that I am doing that role whether at 35 or 45, I would like to do both. You just got to take care of yourself so that you can pass for the ages that you play. I would like to stick to that window.” There are actors who are touching their 50s but are still seen playing the characters in their 20s.
3. He also said that Bollywood is still casting older men opposite way younger actresses. “Bollywood still will cast actors who are in their 50s opposite girls who are in their 20s and not even make it about an older man and younger girl, they will make them look like as a couple. In that environment, what does it matter?,” said Abhay.

What do you have to say about his thoughts on these biases in Bollywood? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Indian hockey team scripted history after winning their first Olympic medal in the last 41 years after defeating Germany 5-4 at the Oi Hockey Stadium North Pitch at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and retaining thousands, if not millions of fans and their love in the process.
One of those fans even ended up making the call, the entire Indian hockey team was waiting for, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi picked up the phone and connected directly with the skipper, Manpreet Singh who was seen unwinding in the dugout at the time.

The PM started off by congratulating Singh for all the effort that he had put in with the team as the skipper opened up about how the motivational speech PM Modi had given to the Indian contingent inspired him in the moments which mattered the most.
After talking to assistant coach Piyush Dubey, PM Modi also ended up having a conversation with the chief coach of the Indian squad, Australia’s Graham Reid. Eagle-eyed fans saw that while the coach sat steadily for the remainder of the call, his right hand began to quiver as the phone was brought closer to him.

Seems the convo with the PM cracked through & small hints of just how excited he is on the inside shines through.

I mean, wow! We always thought that the song was definitely a catchy tune but not in our wildest of dreams would we have thought that we'd hear the song at the Olympics in Japan.
Just like in Bollywood, there sure has been a lot of dramatic moments at the Olympics, however, thanks to Blecher and Bobritsky, we can honestly say that we saw Bollywood actually reach the tournament.
Blecher and Bobritsky are currently competing to qualify for the final of the women’s duet technical routine event at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
The duo was seen displaying synchronized artistic movements in the pool while doing the routine to the Madhuri Dixit song and the smiles on their faces showed how happy they were grooving to it.
The video of the incident soon went viral on social media and of course, Indian fans were left very impressed.

We wish them all the best and want to tell them how proud we are of them!
