The fight for gender equality has been going on for years now, and this gap is also a big part of Bollywood, where usually, the male actors are paid more than their female counterparts.
But as it turns out, Indian cinema has been slowly progressing and evolving, and a significant change in the pay gap between men and women is being witnessed.

Having said that, as Humke Aapke Hai Koun completes 27 years, we take a look at one interesting fact.
While we all surmised that since Salman Khan was the lead of the film, he would have earned the highest pay for it, turns out, it was Madhuri Dixit who was paid more than him.
This was unveiled by Anupam Kher in 2015, when he replied to a tweet that said, "The actress r paid less compared to the actors. Firstly,Gender Equality shld start frm here.Wat u think #AskAnupam"
I agree in certain cases it is true. But Madhuri was paid more than Salman in HAHK.:) https://t.co/rzEUv56YOO

To which he responded, "I agree in certain cases it is true. But Madhuri was paid more than Salman in HAHK.:)"

Hum Aapke Hai Koun was released in 1994 and was one of the hit movies of the time.
Salman and Madhuri's pairing was the talk of the town at the time as fans simply loved their chemistry.
As for Salman, those were his initial days in Indian Cinema. And, as far as Madhuri's remuneration goes, she earned a whopping amount, close to Rs 3 Crore. Sure, that's the amount of money female celebrities are making now, but in 1994, this cost was considered sky-high.
When Salman was asked the same regarding this disparity, he responded, “I don’t think it is true.”
He further added, "The busier you get, the more people want to see you, that's how your price increases. So, if you can pull off a solo hero or solo heroine film on your own and the producers, exhibitors and distributors make that money then, the producer doesn't have any problem sharing that money with you. So, you can't demand, you need to command that."
© Rajshri Productions
In fact, when Madhuri was asked the same, she said, "Well, I heard the news and I just went with the flow, I let the news roll."
So, trick or not, it worked out pretty well.
Another fact is that the movie had almost 14 songs, but not all of them made it to the final cut. Moreover, the runtime was over three hours, and when industry experts sat to see it, they did not have the patience.
In a video, director Sooraj Barjatya said that only Salman's father Salim Khan and Aditya Chopra liked the movie.
© Rajshri Productions
He also said there were around 50-60 trials, and he noticed people leave the screening during the songs. The director also witnessed some 'condolence' as the audience felt the movie was doomed.
This was when Salim Khan asked the director to eliminate two songs, Chocolate Lime Juice and Mujhse Juda Hokar. Though the film would showcase these songs on Television, it was chucked out in theatrical release.
The director recalled and said, "I cut off (those songs) on the third day and that’s when the collections rose.”
© Rajshri Productions
The movie became the highest-grossing film, earned about Rs 72 Crore at the box office, and was also a big success overseas.

Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya became a household name after he secured a second silver medal for India by reaching the final of the men's 57kg freestyle event at Tokyo Olympics.
The Indian wrestler defeated Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev on Wednesday.
© Reuters
The grit and determination with which he fought during his semi-final bout and knocked out two-time World Championships medallist, made him an overnight sensation.
The fact that he was losing 2-9 at one stage and pulled off a dramatic comeback and pinned down his opponent to register a victory by fall was a testimony to his strength and skills.
Faad !
What a brilliant win by Ravi Kumar Dahiya to qualify for the semifinal. Him along with #DeepakPunia real contenders now. #Tokyo2020 #Wrestling pic.twitter.com/2tHTvCXWAu
— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) August 4, 2021
Sanayev, who was a couple of points away from registering a win by technical superiority, had no answer for Dahiya’s moves and that is when he resorted to ‘disgraceful’ behaviour and bit the Indian wrestler on his right bicep, hoping it would ease his grip on him, but nothing of the sort happened and Dahiya finished the bout by pinning him down.
© Twitter
After the bout, the pictures of Dahiya’s arm went viral on social media with bite marks clearly visible on them and people called out the Kazakh wrestler for being a sore loser and trying unethical means to hurt his opponent.
How unfair is this , couldn’t hit our #RaviDahiya ‘s spirit, so bit his hand. Disgraceful Kazakh looser Nurislam Sanayev.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag shared the viral pictures on the micro-blogging site and called out his unfair means and congratulated Dahiya for making the country proud.
“How unfair is this, couldn’t hit our #RaviDahiya's spirit, so bit his hand. Disgraceful Kazakh looser Nurislam Sanayev. Ghazab Ravi, bahut seena chaunda kiya aapne #Wrestling,” Sehwag tweeted.

— Anurag Sinha (@anuragsinha1992) August 4, 2021Despite being bitten in a brutal manner, Dahiya held firm on his grip and foiled Sanayev’s intentions and let him go only after winning the bout.
Sharing the same pictures on Twitter, Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda praised the Indian star for not loosening his grip despite being bitten so badly by the Kazakh wrestler.

India’s two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar was accused of biting the ear of his Kazakhstan opponent Akhzurek Tanatrov during semi-finals at 2012 London Olympics. The visuals from the bout had suggested that Sushil bit the ear of Tanatrov and left him bleeding.
With this win, Dahiya secured the second silver medal for the country at the Tokyo Games and is on the verge of scripting history as no other Indian wrestler has an Olympic gold.
Currently, Sushil Kumar is India’s most successful wrestler with two Olympic medals under his belt.
© Twitter
Dahiya will be up against second-seed Zaur Uguev of the Russian Olympic Committee in the gold medal bout later today and given the campaign he has had, so far, it would be no surprise if he clinched the historic gold.
Former shooter Abhinav Bindra is the only Indian to win individual Olympic gold and Dahiya has a chance to join him in this elite group and etch his name in the history books with golden colours.

The espionage thriller Bell Bottom film's trailer went live recently, and since then, it's been trending on the internet.
Of course, people are stunned to see Akshay Kumar once again in a mind-blowing avatar. But, one character that stood out for most of us was Lara Dutta's role as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The transformation is unreal, so much that the movie actors put out a post and asked the audience to recognise who the actress is.
After much prodding, it was finally revealed that it's Lara Dutta.

On seeing the stuck people, Mr. Mishra who was on a boat of the State Disaster Response Force along with some relief workers managed to reach the people, despite high winds and choppy water.
However, just before the minister could make arrangements for rescuing the stranded people, a tree broke and his boat fell flat.

We already know that Blackberry is set to make a comeback sometime this year but we haven’t heard much about it since. However, the folks at LetsGoDigital decided to release images of The Passport 2 that builds on the 2014 Blackberry Passport. The concept images show that the phone with a beautiful QWERTY keyboard and a dual-camera setup at the rear.
© LetsGoDigital
Blackberry is all set to make a comeback as Chinese giant TCL no longer holds the rights to manufacture Blackberry phones. Now, a Canadian smartphone company has partnered with the American brand OnwardMobility to keep the BlackBerry name alive. We don’t know much about what kind of smartphone the two companies are up to and when we will get to see a 2021 Blackberry phone, but LetsGoDigital has done a great job at conceptualising one of Blackberry’s models.
© LetsGoDigital
The concept design shows the smartphone is running Android and has a 4.5-inch touchscreen display. What’s most notable is the physical keyboard, a staple feature for Blackberry users. The keyboard itself is sleek and doesn’t take too much real estate which makes it a bit more appealing than previous Blackberry Android phones.
However, what could be detrimental to the Passport 2 concept could be the keyboard itself. Part of the reason the brand wasn’t successful in the smartphone space was because of the physical keyboards. The world moved on to touchscreen input as physical keyboards became exhausting to use. The future Blackberry smartphone could face a similar problem and only be favourable amongst a small audience. While the overall aesthetic of the smartphone is quite slick, I fear that the lack of innovation in design may just not work in OnwardMobility’s favour.
© LetsGoDigital
Having said that, the Passport 2 here is just a fan-made concept which may differ from the actual product when it eventually launches. OnwardMobility may have already thought of all the drawbacks of having a physical keyboard and may have just come up with a solution that might favour both types of users i.e. touchscreen and physical keyboard users.
We do know that OnwardMobility is working on a 5G Android-powered Blackberry smartphone but it will be interesting to see what the company comes up with in terms of design.

We all know the challenges of staying fit and healthy during a pandemic. From sitting at your desk job for longer hours to creating a makeshift home gym for yourself, the ‘new normal’ is anything but healthy for our mind and bodies.
However, you can always come up with creative ways to solve your fitness problems. Whether you’re exercising at home or hitting the gym, resistance bands are sure to cater to all your fitness needs.
They will not only help you keep your gains but also increase them.
Benefits Of Resistance Band Workouts © iStock
Resistance bands help in improving the quality of your workouts by adding extra challenges for your muscles.
They are easy to carry and are designed to increase the intensity of compound exercises (exercises that work multiple muscle groups at the same time).
__ECOMPRODUCT__2146__
Apart from increasing muscle strength, they are also great for improving stability and control.
Best Resistance Bands Exercises Now that you know all about the benefits of using resistance bands, here are some of the best upper body exercises that you can include in your routine.
1. Bicep Curls For this exercise, you need to stand with your feet shoulder width apart, tuck the band under both your feet and do a regular bicep curl. You can do a single arm at a time or both together, the choice is yours.
__ECOMPRODUCT__2289__
2. Floor Press For this exercise, lie on your back and tuck in the resistance band under your shoulders. Now hold the ends with your hands, drive up and away from the floor. This exercise is a great way to work your chest muscles without using any gym equipment.
__ECOMPRODUCT__2076__
3. Tricep Kickback For this exercise, you’ll need to anchor the band to any other surface at about your waist height. Next, move up to an appropriate distance, against the band until you feel the resistance. Now bend at the waist and do the kickbacks. You can also do this exercise by tucking the bands under your feet.
__ECOMPRODUCT__2208__
4. Shoulder Press Stand with your feet together and the resistance band tucked under. Now all that you need to do is drive your arms straight up and down, till your chest level. This exercise is sure to leave your muscles pumped.
__ECOMPRODUCT__2290__
5. The Upright Row Stand on the resistance band with your feet together, in an upright position. While keeping your back straight, bring the band closer to your chin, with your elbows above the forearms.
__ECOMPRODUCT__2291__
6. Bent Over Row Stand with your knees and back slightly bent and the resistance band tucked under your feet. Now, starting from a little below your knees, bring the band up to your chest level and repeat. You will feel your shoulder muscles being activated.
__ECOMPRODUCT__2292__
7. Reverse Fly In this exercise, your stance will be the same as the bent over row. However, instead of pulling the band upto to your chest, you will be driving it away in a horizontal direction. Make sure to keep your back straight throughout to avoid injuries.
__ECOMPRODUCT__1700__
The Bottomline Resistance bands are great for anyone who is either always on the go or someone who loves working out but doesn’t have gym equipment at home. They help in intensifying your training, are easily customizable to suit your needs and can be carried literally anywhere.
Which one of these upper body exercises would you try? Tell us in the comments below!

India vs Germany, Tokyo Olympics 2020: The Indian men's hockey team created history on Thursday after winning their first Olympic medal in 41 years after defeating the Germans 5-4 at the Oi Hockey Stadium North Pitch in Tokyo.
This is for the first time the Indian side made it to the final four in over four decades. The last time they did so, they ended up winning the whole tournament and ended their campaign with a gritty gold.
View this post on Instagram
However, this time around, despite their promising journey in Japan, their semi-final clash against world-ranking 2 Belgium proved to be too much to handle and India lost that contest 2-5. Nonetheless, the win against Germany, yet another top-5 team in the world, brought them redemption and the third bronze (and fourth overall) medal was finally secured.
While the fans of the Indian hockey side celebrated the victory and wished the team for their accomplishment, all the hard work and the incredible road to the podium they had, there was one noticeable name who got flaked for doing the same, albeit in an improper manner.

Former opening batsman for the Indian cricket team and current BJP member, Gautam Gambhir chose to congratulate the hockey team by asking his followers to “forget” three of the World Cups that our cricketers had won between 1983 and 2011.
Gambhir then went on to say that this bronze medal was “bigger than any World Cup”.
Forget 1983, 2007 or 2011, this medal in Hockey is bigger than any World Cup! #IndianHockeyMyPride pic.twitter.com/UZjfPwFHJJ
— Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) August 5, 2021
Comparing the two achievements did not sit well with many of Gambhir’s online critics who called him out demeaning other athletes’ work and for quickly politicising the matter:
Sir, this looks more like a politician's tweet than a sportsperson's tweet. No need to demean other's achievement.
— Silly Point (@FarziCricketer) August 5, 2021You really don’t have to compare. https://t.co/mHoTIPHB4E
— Kaushal S Inamdar| कौशल इनामदार (@ksinamdar) August 5, 2021Checked with your master @narendramodi before saying #IndianHockeyMyPride ? https://t.co/tscgpjVeev
— K Balamurugan (@Ka_Balamurugan) August 5, 2021Downplay yourself not others you dumbass politician https://t.co/xoxHASRztO
— fernweh (@justacrazyass) August 5, 2021Congrats to Hockey Team but Is it necessary to criticize Cricket whenever India wins in any other Sports ? We can celebrate both but @GautamGambhir what's on your mind sir? Why so much of hate for cricket even when you're himself an Ex Cricketer. #Olympics #hockeyindia #Cricket https://t.co/RB9exInTVN
— ALʘ͜K (@AlokTerminator) August 5, 2021To be fair towards the former cricketer, he was an integral part of the Indian cricket roster that went on to win the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 World Cup at home, respectively and in prioritising the hockey medal over two of his greatest awards deserves recognition as well.

Being a Bollywood celebrity is no easy as they are being scrutinized and followed at each step. And there’s no doubt that these celebs enjoy popularity and a massive fan-following but there’s probably a downside to it too. Yes, there are fans but then there are a few who go an extra mile to stay close to the celeb they adore, and then they are a few selected ones who can leave a celeb stunned and also uncomfortable at times.
We have heard many such crazy fan incidents from different celebs. Now, Sidharth Malhotra, who is all geared up for the release of his upcoming movie Shershaah, has shared an encounter with his fan that might make you cringe at a different level. When Sidharth made his Bollywood debut with SOTY, there were many women who went gaga over his looks.
View this post on Instagram
Recalling one of the craziest instances, he told in an interview with Mashable India, “A couple of years ago, in my initial years, maybe 3-5 years ago, I was gifted a big box from a fan, which had a nice pillow inside. And there was a card which read, 'this is the pillow that I sleep on every night'. And just to prove that there were also strands of hair on it. 'Please use this pillow, it'll be like we're sleeping on the same bed'."
Now, she is a ‘jabra’ fan! Isn’t she?
Sidharth has earlier also narrated a few crazy encounters with his fans. It was in 2013 when a psychology student named Reshma got a star registered in the actor’s name. “It’s a very sweet thing to do. She got the star named after me and also sent me the certificate. In fact, the certificate has the star’s coordinates too, so if I ever want to see the star, I can take out a telescope and do it. She also sent me a long letter saying how much she loved SOTY," he had told Hindustan Times.

We wonder how does he deal with such fans.
