Bell Bottom is an espionage thriller and will be set in the 1980s. The film is about one of India’s forgotten heroes. The trailer instills the feeling of patriotism in you and it starts with Adil Hussain’s narration that adds weightage to it. The dialogue at the beginning of the trailer sets the tone of the entire movie: ‘Hindustan Ek Mulk Nahi, Ek Soch Hai Aur Iss Soch Ko Harane Ke Liye Dushman Har Paitra Istemal Karna Chahta Hai’.

In the trailer, you are given the plot of the movie wherein a plane has been hijacked and Akshay Kumar’s character whose code name is Bell Bottom is introduced as he is the only one who can crack this entire case. The trailer is packed with many action sequences, a foot-tapping background score, and lots of drama.

People who have watched it are loving the trailer and have called it a masterpiece. They went on to say that Akshay has nailed the character.

Akshay is among the first actors to resume shooting amid the pandemic and cannot live in fear. He said in one of his recent interviews on whether he was afraid: “Of course, I was, but for how long can you live in fear? Initially, when the pandemic started, very little was known about the virus – the way it affects a person. So, there was a lot of fear. With time, we know more and that it’s possible to beat it if we have a good immune system. Hence, I decided to get back to work taking all the precautions, not just for me but the entire unit.”

The movie is slated to release on August 19 in 2D and 3D format.

You read that damn right. DDLJ is an iconic movie which defines Bollywood like no other, so it is indeed surprising and shocking to even fathom that any movie could beat this blockbuster which ran to packed houses for over 25 years! Turns out, Bobby Deol’s Barsaat, which starred Twinkle Khanna in the lead opposite him, was the surprising bomb which ticked off a cash register war at the box office at the time.

It was Bobby and Twinkle’s debut and yet, it managed to smash opening records of DDLJ which had established stars Kajol and SRK. According to a report, one of the biggest reasons that Barsaat was a huge success was the fact that it marked Dharmedra’s son’s debut and the fact that Twinkle came from a filmy family as well added much weight to the whole hype.
The movie was made on a budget of Rs 8.25 crore and ended up collecting Rs 68 lakh on day one. The Bobby and Twinkle starrer film collected Rs 1.96 crore on the first weekend itself. The film was released on 210 screens. On the contrary, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was made on a budget of Rs 4 crore and had collected approximately over Rs 55 lakh on its opening day. The opening weekend collections were Rs 1.56 crore and it was released on 180 screens across the country.

While the clash was strong, we all know how it ended. Barsaat was a breath of fresh air circling around college romance and beautiful music. DDLJ went on to become a historic movement in itself.

Manoj Bajpayee is the man of the moment. It’s been a long time coming to be honest. He’s been consistent and determined to his craft, as evidenced by the love and appreciation for his role as Srikant Tiwari has brought him. The Family Man series has finally brought him the much deserved widespread recognition I feel he has deserved, since I saw him in Satya.
At some point, a lot of what we consider ‘mainstream’ success boils down to your ability to turn up, day after day. Despite our personal difficulties. Find a way to keep moving forward.
‘In The Club’, a clubhouse room hosted by Aniruddha Guha and Janice Sequeira, had Manoj Bajpayee share his journey as an actor. As a veteran of the craft he knows a thing or two about determination, and true grit. More so, he’s designed his life to do what he wants to do.
As far as healthy lifestyles, who better to learn from than Manoj Bajpayee who’s gone through some seriously rough times in his long journey as an actor. He can be someone who inspires us to strive to be better, a realistic reference point.
Here are 6 healthy lifestyle habits you can adopt from ‘The Family Man’ star Manoj Bajpayee:
    1. Quick to Bed, Quick To RiseManoj likes to hit the snooze by 10 pm latest. An early night to bed can be life changing in the long run as it allows you more time to yourself the next day. He doesn’t like sleeping in either, he starts his day early. It helps him gain more time to the day without stressing about his commitments during the day.

    2. Meditation And Workout“I like to do some yoga as soon as I start the day because it allows me to center myself. Collect my thoughts.” An excellent practice as you’re getting your mind onboard for the rest of the day.  The talented actor also acknowledges the virtue of staying fit, he ensures he’s getting a workout in the first half of the day so that he can reap the benefits through the rest.

    3. Look Fresh AlwaysManoj stressed on this point, “Even if I don’t have to go anywhere for a meeting, I ensure that I’m always dressed properly, fresh clothes are necessary for me. I like to groom myself with perfume and all.”
Dressing well everyday definitely helps feel better and fresh throughout the day. The clothes you wear, and the way you groom yourself can do wonders for your mental health!

    4. Practice Your DisciplineThis is the bit where Manoj Bajpayee reads poetry, rehearsing lines, recording himself and learning from it. This commitment to the craft is what separates Manoj from the rest. Many talented artists ignore the importance of practice, nothing makes you better at your craft than dedicated practice. So it could be your job, or a side hustle you’re figuring out. You have to turn up everyday.

So... everybody celebrated Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor’s Raanjhanaa as a love story and people sympathized with Kundan. Excuse me! It’s nothing but Bollywood glorifying a stalker and approving of his ways to make a woman fall in love. There are many other ways to ask a woman out. You can probably leave a message through her best friend and ask for a date. Well, if you have enough guts, you can walk up to her and ask for a date. If she will be interested, she will let you know through her words because believing in actions can be misleading.

Bollywood being Bollywood doesn’t show this and plants an idea in men that stalking is a way of expressing how much you are attracted to a woman.
The story is set in the city of Benaras and revolves around Kundan (Dhanush) who has been madly in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) ever since they were children. Zoya belongs to a well-to-do Muslim family whereas Kundan is a Tamil Brahmin and his family doesn’t have a solid financial background. He has no qualms about falling in love with a Muslim girl and is quite liberal in this sense.

But what’s shocking is that his constant philandering ways to try to woo Zoya despite her declining his repetitive pleas of acceptance of his love. She made it clear that she isn’t interested but Kundan is stuck in an incident from the past when they were kids as back then, she did give to his stalking ways and met him quite a few times as a friend.

Kundan in Raanjhanaa uses his friend Murari's (Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub) handbook to woo girls: ‘Dekh bhai, apne Uttar Pradesh mein na ladkiyan do tarike se patayi jaati hai... ek toh mehnat se: subha se shaam peechha karo, ghar ke baahar, school ke baahar, bazaar mein, sadko pe, cycle pe, ricksha mein, tempo mein, ro do, khana khaana chhod do, wazan ghatalo, aur ladki ko itna thaka do ke woh thak ke haan bol de. Par Pandit tum Shah Rukh Khan toh ho nahi ki yeh sab karke pass ho jaao... ab hai doosra tarika: Vinod Mehra ban jaao.’

This dialogue was a big wake-up call but many of us ignored it because we were sympathetic towards Kundan. We did forget how was Zoya feeling and hence passed it off as a great love story.

A few disturbing scenes in the movie were accepted by the audience as his way of telling her that he cannot understand his existence without her being a part of it. In one of the sequences, Kundan says to Zoya: ‘Keh do tumhe pyaar hai, warna abhi kalai kaat denge’. He did cut his wrist.

It’s sad how director Anand L Rai didn’t use this movie as an opportunity to show that stalking is not acceptable but he rather masked the ugly reality by making his audiences feel sympathy for Kundan because apparently, Zoya thinks he is a ‘jaahil’.

When Zoya rejected his proposal and went ahead to marry the boy of her choice by lying about his religion, Kundan crashed her wedding ceremony and informed her parents about her lie. This chaos ended up in the brutal murder of Abhay Deol’s character Jaspreet.

Raanjhanaa glorifies harassment to such an extent that it’s sickening and left me wondering how did Dhanush and Sonam who’s a proclaimed feminist say yes to such a movie.

I am glad that Abhay, a part of this movie, had the guts to call it out for the regressive message that the movie delivered to the audience. In one of the notes on Instagram, he had said, “History will not look kindly at this film for its regressive message. It’s been a theme in Bollywood for decades, where a boy can (and should), pursue a girl until she relents. Only in cinema does she do that willfully. In reality, we have seen time and again that it leads to sexual violence of some sort. Glorifying it on-screen only leads to blaming the victim.”

Before I end this review, I would want to say:
    Dear Men,
Raanjhanaa isn’t the template you need to follow as this is not love but is all about trying to induce so much fear in a woman that she succumbs to you and gives up her own choices.
