Former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs has accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India  (BCCI) of bringing politics into cricket and threatening him with consequences if he takes part in the Kashmir Premier League in the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
Gibbs took to Twitter and accused the Indian cricket board of threatening that he would not be allowed to enter the country for any cricket-related work if he decided to feature in the six-team tournament which is set to get underway on August 6.
Completely unnecessary of the @BCCI to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equation and trying to prevent me playing in the @kpl_20 . Also threatening me saying they won’t allow me entry into India for any cricket related work. Ludicrous

“Completely unnecessary of the @BCCI to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equation and trying to prevent me playing in the @kpl_20. Also threatening me saying they won’t allow me entry into India for any cricket related work. Ludicrous,” Gibbs wrote on the micro-blogging site.

India claims the whole of Kashmir to be an integral part of the country, hence any league taking place in the POK is deemed to be illegal by the BCCI and their decision is in accordance with the government’s national policy.

Taking to social media, Gibbs hoped that he would get some support from his followers but his move backfired as Indian supporters slammed him for becoming a part of Pakistan’s political game plan to legitimise their illegal occupation of the POK.

Through his tweet, Gibbs accused India of bringing their political differences with Pakistan into cricket but what he forgot was that by agreeing to feature in the Kashmir Premier League he played into the hands of Pakistan’s political class who want to challenge India’s sovereignty.
LOL. Not really. @bcci basically told you that you’re free to play wherever you want but if you want to play in India, you have to play on @BCCI’s terms. Nothing wrong with that. Did they say don’t play in Pakistan? I don’t think so. My home, my roof, my rules. That simple.
    — Commissioner Gordon (@CommissionerG10) July 31, 2021Don’t be so naive, Herschelle. If you want to play the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir Premier League, then even as a cricket fan, I would request the @BCCI to never allow you to enter India for cricket related work. Nothing is more important to us than our motherland.
    — Madhav Sharma (@HashTagCricket) July 31, 2021KPL is a completely illegitimate tournament coz the area is illegally occupied by Pakistani goons. Either play there or play in India. Can't have both on your plate mate.

Oh and btw, why didn't you tour India between 2000-08?
    — Yash (@im_yash2307) July 31, 2021You have the habit of throwing the ball in air before catching it!! With this one tweet your fan base in India has gone to zero.
    — Anurag Krishna (@anuragkrish) July 31, 2021They're not stopping you, you can do whatever you want but when it comes to Indian cricket, of course they'd take decisions.
    — D I V Y A N S H (@ImDivyansh_17) July 31, 2021According to Indian Govt., the whole Kashmir is ours. and if Pakistan are conducting any cricketing event on our soil, then BCCI has right to take an action. You should have done some research before tweeting. Disappointing.
    — кαυѕтυвн (@k_p_18_) July 31, 2021It's because India considers whole Kashmir as a part of India.
And if Pakistan tries to organize some league related to Kashmir, it's attack on India's sovereignty.
So if you tries to be part of it, you have to face repercussions from India.
That's not that hard to understand
    — Ankit (@Ankit_rao1) July 31, 2021KPL itself is a political statement Herschelle. By wanting to play in it, you are becoming part of a political agenda. This of course will have conse quen ces here in India. Well-done @BCCI @SGanguly99.
    — THE SKIN DOCTOR (@theskindoctor13) July 31, 2021Since their independence in 1947, both countries have gone to war thrice over for Kashmir, with the latest one being the Kargil War of 1999, where India successfully defended its northernmost territory along the Line of Control.
Just like Gibbs has every right to decide where he wants to play, the BCCI is also within its right to decide who they want to work with in the future. In fact, the BCCI didn’t ask stop him from taking part in the league, they have only made their stance clear, something which any other organisation would have done if a league had attacked their country’s sovereignty.
