    TikTok might make a comeback in India soon, according to a trademark filing by its parent company ByteDance. The company has filed for a short-form video app with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. TikTok was one of the first few Chinese apps that were banned in India in June last year.

    The app was removed from the Google Play and App Store and wouldn’t work even if the app was already installed in smartphones. Due to the ban, companies like Instagram and Facebook introduced a similar feature to fill the void left by the app. 

    However, the new app will probably launch under a different name i.e. “TickTock” on July 6th according to the filing. The filing was discovered by tipster Mukul Sharma on Twitter and later verified by multiple outlets. The new trademark has been filed under the Class 42 of the Fourth Schedule to Trade Mark Rules, 2002, which is meant for “scientific and technological services and research and design relating thereto; industrial analysis and research services; design and development of computer hardware and software.”

    ByteDance has been reportedly in talks with the government to relaunch the app and its Chinese owners also reassured the Indian government that it will follow the new IT Rules as required. ByteDance appointed its chief nodal and grievance officer in India in 2019 which is a pre-requisite for any social media app that has over 50 Lakh users.

    At the time of its ban, it was estimated that the app had around 20 crore users in the country. However, with the recent launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India, it would be fair to assume that ByteDance may want to take a similar route for the relaunch of the social media app. 

    As of now, ByteDance has not officially confirmed the relaunch of the social media app in the coming weeks. It is unclear whether the new app could also be banned again especially since it was banned on the grounds of threatening the “sovereignty and integrity” of the country during the border clashes with China last year.

    The much-awaited trailer of Manoj Bajpayee and Neena Gupta’s thriller Dial 100 dropped last night.

    The trailer of the crime thriller will keep you glued to the screen throughout. In the film, the main protagonist is shown to be time, as it is a race between Neena Gupta and Manoj Bajpayee.
    Manoj Bajpayee is seen playing the role of a cop named Nikhil Sood and Neena Gupta is seen playing the role of Seema Pallav, who is a grieving mother and seeking revenge for her son’s death.
    In the trailer, we can see that someone makes a call to the Police Control Room and there is a woman on call who is specifically asking for Nikhil Sood. She is crying on call and it also turns out that she is about to kill someone with a gun. The film revolves around one line according to the makers, which goes as, "One night, one call, can change your lives. Expect the unexpected with Dial 100."

    In the trailer, we can see that Nikhil Sood gets disturbed by the phone call that he gets and he can sense that there is something personal but he fails to identify her on call. After some time, he gets to know that the woman on call is Seema Pallav, who wants to make things even between them. And to make this happen, she kidnaps Nikhil Sood’s wife, Prerna which is played by actress Sakshi Tanwar.
    And then we can see glimpses of Prerna being held at gunpoint by Seema and Nikhil’s desperate attempts to track them down.

    Dial 100 is directed by Rensil D’Silva and the film is presented by Sony Pictures Films India and produced in association with Alchemy films. It is all set to release on ZEE5 on August 6.

    The Indian cricket team had a great start to their practice match against the Country Select XI as they went on to score 306 runs on Day 1 of three, behind KL Rahul’s 101 and Ravindra Jadeja’s 75-run knocks at Chester-le-Street in Durham.

    However, a rather unpleasant surprise for the fans of the Men in Blue was to learn that skipper Virat Kohli and deputy in command, Ajinkya Rahane were to miss out on the action with minor niggles in their fitness.
    “Captain Virat Kohli felt some stiffness in his back on late Monday evening and he has been advised rest from the three-day first-class warm-up game by the BCCI Medical Team," BCCI said in a statement.

    “Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has mild swelling around his left upper hamstring. This has been addressed by an injection. He is not available for the three-day first-class warm-up game. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him, and he is expected to fully recover well in time for the first Test against England starting from 4th August at Nottingham."
    With the captain and the vice-captain not being able to make it to the field, the duty was given to team veteran Rohit Sharma (9), who admittedly didn’t get the start that he had hoped for and became the first wicket to fall for the World Test Championship runners-ups.

    The team also suffered another scare after Avesh Khan (playing for the opposing side) ended up hurting his finger while bowling to his compatriot, Hanuma Vihari in the 35th over of the innings. Khan had bowled 9.5 overs for 41 runs without picking up a wicket when he walked off.
    As the Indian cricket board addressed, the injuries and fitness issues that Kohli and Rahane are feeling are “mild” in nature and are confident that they will be ready to play at a high level by the time the first Test against Joe Root’s England side takes place on August 4, 2021.
    “Team India are wearing black armbands to mourn the sad demise of former India cricketer Yashpal Sharmaji, who sadly passed away on 13th July after a cardiac arrest. Head Coach Ravi Shastri was his teammate in the 1983 World Cup winning squad."
