    All’s well that ends well.
This is probably the motto of every Bollywood movie, especially ones that fall into a romance or action genre. Well, love and war, both are more complex than that.
    © Viacom18 Motion Pictures
Movies create a dream world where the hero always wins, gets the girl and they live happily ever after. In real life though, people get married off, beaten up and unfortunately die too.

However, some films have managed to tap into the real world where people lose, sometimes love and life.
    © Eros International
These movies deserve a shoutout for going against the grain and serving its audience with a more realistic and satisfying ending rather than the same old happy ending.

    © Eros International
Here are five such movies that gave us exactly the ending we needed:

    Disclaimer, spoilers ahead.
    1. Raanjhanaa
There was a time when Bollywood glorified stalking a girl as an act of love and ended with the girl falling in love with her stalker.
In Raanjhanaa, Sonam Kapoor’s character has an obsessive lover who stalks and threatens her but she refuses to give in.
It ends with Dhanush helping Sonam who still hates him and dying with her beside him.
    2. Queen
The best part about Kangana’s Queen was its wholesome ending.
Even when her ex-fiance approaches her for marriage after calling it off once, she doesn’t go back to him. Instead, she politely refuses the hero’s proposal because she values herself more than simply getting hitched to the guy for the sake of it.
    3. Devdas
The beautiful story of childhood sweethearts who are divided by class of society and the pride of the families, Devdas ends on an even more satisfying and realistic note than the story itself.
Although the sets and costumes were larger-than-life, the ending with Devdas dying on Paro’s doorstep was anything but happy and superficial.
    4. Tumbbad
For a movie that’s set around a supernatural and fantasy theme, it’s ironic that the characters and ending are just too real.
The father-son duo is gripped with greed which becomes a bane for their lives. The father loses his life and the audience is left with a moral message instead of a happy ending.
    5. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
In a perfect Bollywood world, Aishwarya’s character Nandini would have reunited with her lover who was practically a man-child. In the real world, that doesn’t happen.
No woman would choose a guy like Salman over the supportive and genuine Vanraj played by Ajay Devgn.
But to think about it, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is never about those unrealistic endings, anyway.

Potholes are a pervasive issue, especially in India. In fact, they are so familiar that we see at least a few potholes every five kilometres in our country. Only the size and the depth of the deadly pothole varies from area to area.

Not just that, there have many death cases as well in the past.
But there are some people who are taking matters into their own hands to fight this menace. No, we aren't talking about authorities, but this old couple from Hyderabad, Telangana that has been filling potholes for the last 11 years and have saved several lives.

Many of us might hesitate at using our money for such causes. Still, Gangadhar Tilak Katnam and his wife, Venkateshwari Katnam, didn't think twice before spending money from their pockets to save others from accidents.

The 73-year-old man is called the 'Road Doctor'. The man and his wife, who is 64-years-old, go on the roads in a car called 'Pothole Ambulance'. They then start filling holes wherever they find one.

In an interview, Gangadhar Katnam said, "Initially, I tried to complain about the issue with the police and the Municipality officials, but none of it was of any use. That is when I have decided to fill these potholes by myself."

He further said that he was adamant about finding a possible solution for the  problem after he witnessed several accidents on the road.
Telangana: An elderly couple have been filling potholes in Hyderabad for past 11 years

I shifted here after my retirement from Indian Railways. I saw accidents every day, due to potholes. I even took the matter with the concerned authority but it was not resolved: GT Katnam pic.twitter.com/tZiQlMKS8i
    — ANI (@ANI) July 10, 2021
Earlier, Mr Tilak was an employee in Indian Railways. He also worked as a software engineer in a software company. But that didn't stop him from doing the good work.
He quit his job and was dedicated to bringing a change as he continued to fill potholes in the city.
When he was asked about funds for the cause, he said, "I am managing the finances of this initiative from the pension that I receive. All the material that is required for the task is bought using money from my pension. For the last 11 years, I was able to fill nearly about 2,030 potholes in and across the city and spent about Rs 40 lakh on it."
    © Twitter/ANI
After looking at his work, even some government officials joined the team and helped him with the required tools and materials. Gangadhar also has an organisation named 'Sramadhan'.

He further spoke about how he would never ask for money or donations. However, he mentioned that if people voluntarily help fill the potholes, he would appreciate that better.
The Road Doctor says that problems can be resolved easily if everyone starts helping.
As soon as the news went live, people were enraged and started blaming the authorities for not fixing the prolonged issue.
Its a collective shame for PWD & Road Construction department of Telangana. As well as Telangana Govt.

After much talk and discussion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has finally unveiled the population bill, with an aim to incentivise population control in Uttar Pradesh.
The news has come on the occasion of World Population Day itself.
Yogi Adityanath presented this new policy on population control for 2021-30 in the hopes that following it through might help the government in bringing the population growth to 2.1 per cent by 2026 and to 1.9 by 2030.
    © Reuters
The policy strictly covers measures and incentives that will include contraceptive measures being promoted, a proper and safe system for abortion being put into place along with maintaining safe and improved health facilities across UP.

The government also plans on setting up certain ‘health clubs’ to create awareness for population stabilization and also to keep track on the infants, adolescents and older people.

The new policy shall all oversee that attention to bring down the maternal and child mortality rate to the minimum level through proper nutrition is also being made.

As far as incentives are concerned, parents with two or fewer children will be rewarded with facilities like two additional increments in government jobs, promotions, exemption in government housing schemes and also increased employer contribution in PF.

In fact, benefits for being a single child include free education till graduation level and preference in government jobs.
The draft bill that has been released today also goes on to clarify, “(a) The personal law governing A allows polygamy. A has three wives B, C and D. A and B, A and C, and A and D shall be counted as three distinct married couples so far as the status of B, C and D is concerned but as far as the status of A is concerned, it shall be counted as one married couple for the purpose of calculation of a cumulative number of children. For example, A has one child from B, two children from C and one child from D, the total number of children of A shall be four. (b) The personal law governing B allows polyandry. B has two husbands A and C. B and A shall be counted as one married couple. B and C shall be counted as another married couple."

Unveiling the state's new population policy, Yogi Adityanath said, “Increasing population can be a hurdle in way of development. Every community has been taken care of in Population Policy 2021-2030.”

He further said that population control is directly connected with awareness among masses and poverty.
This is how the internet is reacting to the news of this new population control bill -

If you are playing any team sports, having a strong leader is almost a prerequisite for you to succeed.
A deep dive into history and you’ll get enough examples supporting this theory, especially in cricket, where the decisions taken by the skipper could possibly determine the outcome of the match.
It’s a no-brainer that teams that don’t have stability in their leadership positions have, more often than not, failed as a group and the current example could be the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The small island nation, once considered to be a powerhouse, was known for punching above its weight but not anymore.

The country that once produced the legends like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, has been going through a tough phase and is struggling to compete even against the minnows.
Failure to replace leaders like Sangakkara and Jayawardene in the dressing room, coupled with financial issues, have led to the sport's downward spiral in the country.

Be it the idea of love, the happily-ever-after-endings, or just life in general, Bollywood movies have this unforgivable habit of showing things that are far too dreamy and unreal.

    © Dharma Productions
Now, while I admit that we all love to watch it, one thing that I think we will never be able to forgive Bollywood for is how they literally ruined the idea of what college life was supposed to be.

Be it fashion, flashy fast cars, big social circles, endless parties, and exotic campus festivals that would put a Coldplay concert to shame, Bollywood fed us all these dreams, and we innocently gulped it all down.
    © Dharma Productions
When most of us actually went to college, we realized ki, "Life Sach Me Fair Nahi Hai Yaar", and we have only these Bollywood movies to blame for that.

    1. Main Hoon Na © Red Chillies Entertainment
    Remember St. Pauls College?

The scenic, hillside college jaha pe the long-haired Lucky urf Laxman Prasad Sharma (Zayed Khan) ended up failing three years in a row only to still get the girl at the end and even find out that he has Shah Rukh Khan for a step-brother.
Well, before you start throwing tomatoes at me, I consider it to be one of the best Shah Rukh Khan movies as it is a complete entertainment package.
However, Prom Night? a funky college principal who liked reading Harry Potter in his office? and Sushmita freaking Sen as a Chemistry professor? That is remotely nothing close to a real-life college in India.
    © Red Chillies Entertainment
And you know what? The college in the movie is actually an all-boys school in Darjeeling.

    © St. Pauls School
    2. Ishq Vishk © Tips Industries
This movie may be remembered by many for all the good reasons, with Shahid Kapoor's debut being one of them.

But while the love-triangle rom-com drama film was a superb dose of fun, with a stellar cast of Shahid, Amrita Rao, Shenaz Treasury, Vishal Malhotra, and Satish Shah, the fact remains that college life is not all of that.
Be it the colourful college canteens, inter-college IIFA Award-like festivals, or the fact that you get to have multiple romances during your three-year term within the college walls, Bro! Real-life colleges Aise Definitely Nahi Hote!
    3. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai © Dharma Productions
This movie is one of most people's all-time favourites, and one of Karan Johar's actual masterpiece drama films.

However, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukherjee with all their skateboards, basketball games, and fancy friendship days fooled us into believing that college would be anything as colourful as that.
Well, while watching more KJo films over the recent course of years made getting back to reality a little bit easier, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai came in when we were far too young.
All of us would still want to visit that Shimla-wala Summer Camp still! (We're never getting older)
    4. Student of the Year © Dharma Productions
If there was ever a clear difference between fiction and reality, well, this movie was the best example of it.

Be it Ishk Wala Love or Gucci-wearing college students, Student of the Year might have made the magical school of Harry Potter's Hogwarts seem more realistic.
Olympic-styled swimming pools, students vacationing abroad on private jets, the movie forgot to hold any slight resemblances to how schools or colleges are in India.
Guess they tried centring things on the Upper East Side of New York? (Gossip Girl fans? No? Damn!)
    5. Mohabbatein © YRF
Like Student Of The Year, I think there is still confusion about whether the Gurukul in Mohabattein was a strange boarding school or college.

Well, keeping in mind the fact that the trio of Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill, and Jugal Hansraj were all in their mid-twenties, we'd like to believe it was a college indeed.
Now, while the movie was a successful and memorable remake of Robin William's Dead Poet's Society, the truth is that no college or school in India looks like the Gurukul.
I mean, just look at this place.
    © YRF
Even if we overlook this, what about Shah Rukh is the only teacher/professor seen in the film?

Also, apart from imparting love-life advice, I never saw him teach one note or chord of an instrument to any of the students.
No wonder Big Bachchan was always furious with him in the movie!

With so much heat around the topic of marriage, religion and love, not because any of that is problematic in its own accord, but because it is problematic when put together, the Assam government has decided to take action against forceful religious conversions, especially with topic of ‘love jihad’ raking up in the media.
With a view to bringing the problem of concealing identity or religion before marriage to an end, the state government in Assam is now looking forward to a law that will require the bride and groom to be transparent about their religion and their income before marriage.
The proposed ‘marriage bill’ is said to bring an end to the menace of ‘Love jihad’, but by encompassing all the communities.
Assam marriage bill will check 'Love Jihad’ of all kinds: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

    — Hindustan Times (@htTweets) July 11, 2021
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Love jihad doesn’t only mean a Muslim cheating a Hindu. It could happen among Hindus as well. If a Hindu boy uses dubious means to entrap and marry a Hindu girl that is also a form of ‘love jihad’.”
He went on to say, “We won’t like to use the term ‘love jihad’, but dubious means or cheating to entrap and marry a girl shouldn’t be done by Hindus too. We will act against such frauds. The law won’t be only against Muslims. No girl or woman should be exploited in that manner.”

CM Sarma also said, “We had mentioned it in our election manifesto. Our government is just two months old. First, we will bring the cow protection law, next month we will notify the two-child norm and later we will bring it."

Meanwhile, people are still divided over the news as some stand in support of the bill while others think it could be used to infringe on the fundamental rights of Muslims.
Of late, the public had also been riled up after the trailer released the names of Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal in the upcoming movie Toofan.
Boycotting the movie on the ground of promoting ‘Love jihad’, the public stands sensitive on the topic and this is how they are reacting to the news -

All of us, love ourselves a good Bollywood movie, one with an exciting cast, beautiful locations and a storyline that will keep us gripped until the very end.

And while we know how hard it can be to put all of that together, what shouldn’t be so hard to understand and also keep in mind is to be mindful of where you’re shooting and how you’re shooting.
A shoot for a movie is undoubtedly grand, it requires almost a village of people on set, vanity van, lights, camera, equipment and a whole lot of other things. Naturally, the entire process isn’t just taxing it is also pretty hands-on.
And while all that is still okay, it is still no excuse for leaving the place dirty, littered and unkempt. If anything, it is disrespectful and people are calling out Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie Laal Singh Chaddha just for that very reason.
    © Viacom 18
Accused of littering the village ‘Wakha’ in Ladakh, the entire team of Laal Singh Chaddha was called out for allegedly polluting the very space they shot at.

A video posted on the microblogging site was shared by a user named Jigmat Ladakhi, with a caption that read, “This is the gift Bollywood star Amir Khan's upcoming movie Lal Singh Chaddha has left for the villagers of Wakha in Ladakh. Amir Khan himself talks big about environmental cleanliness at Satyamev Jayate but this is what happens when it comes to himself.”

And honestly, after looking at the video, we don’t blame him for calling the team out.
There were plastic bottles, empty carry bags and a lot of other waste simply spread across the land, uncared for.
He also added in his tweets, “This is the kind of havoc the crew is creating with the undisturbed environment. Wake up so-called Bollywood stars!! Seems these people lost their civic senses!!”

The video that soon went viral on the internet has been attracting a lot of flak from netizens who aren’t too thrilled about the team of Laal Singh Chaddha not cleaning up after themselves.
One user wrote, “Please, don't neglect this irresponsibility done by the members of Lal Singh chada  movie makers along with amir khan ! They should be fined and esteemed members of Ladakh should take strict actions ! _ student.”
Here are some of the other reactions from the public -

For your information, the shooting schedule there is still going on and they haven't left the place yet. Get your facts right before you blabber.

Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest player to step on a football field, finally realised his long-held dream of winning silverware with Argentina.
The Barcelona legend’s long wait for a senior trophy with the national team came to an end as they defeated arch-rivals Brazil in the Copa America final at the iconic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

With this win, Messi answered all his critics who used to question his legacy because he couldn’t replicate the same success that he had at the club level with the national team.

Deserved adulation for a man who was utterly astonishing at the @CopaAmerica

    🇦🇷 Will the 2022 #WorldCup belong to Lionel Messi?pic.twitter.com/P7LbRIFLTF
    — FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) July 11, 2021
As wishes poured in from all corners, Messi started trending on the micro-blogging site across the globe.
Even the Indian cricket team fans congratulated the Argentine for ending his long wait for the senior trophy.
Before Messi, New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson had also won his first trophy with the national team when they defeated India in the World Test Championship final in Southampton last month.

Watching Messi and Williamson end their title jinx, Virat Kohli’s fans were filled with optimism and they hoped that the Indian skipper would be the next player to lead their side to glory.

Messi knew he was nearing the end of his career and wouldn't get many chances to realise his dream. He turned back the clock and single-handedly carried his team playing like a champion throughout the tournament, except the final.

He couldn’t get on the scoresheet in the final match but his four goals were enough for him to top the goal-scoring chart, along with two other players. The five goals he set up were the most by any player in the tournament.

While fans love to find similarities between two different situations, it is important to mention that Kohli, unlike Messi, has already won two trophies with the Indian team -- the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy -- both under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Since taking over the reign from Dhoni, Kohli has failed to lay his hands on any major ICC trophy which has led to people doubting his leadership acumen.

Not just with the Indian team, Kohli has yet to win a trophy for his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, which has been his home since the inception of the tournament in 2008.

While Argentina’s title-drought lasted 28 long years, Messi had to wait more than 16 years to break the jinx with the national team.

Similarly, Williamson fell agonisingly short in the last two ODI World Cups but managed to get on the right side of the result this year as they became the first-ever World Test champions.
Could this all be an indication of what’s about to happen later this year, nobody knows, except Kohli fans who are optimistic that ‘Apna Time Aayega’ and they would see him end his title jinx later this year, either by lifting the IPL trophy with RCB or during the T20 World Cup.
