The cabinet reshuffle that took place yesterday is a giant leap taken by the government to direct the future of the country in educated and responsible hands. With more than 40 new leaders elected and inducted in the system, the list includes a mix of engineers, lawyers and doctors as well.

It is being reported to be the youngest cabinet group in our history as well. One of the most educated and promising faces in the ministry that is currently trending is Dr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, who will be the Union Minister of Railways and will also head the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

While not much is known about him as he is one of the few ministers who are being inducted without any previous experience of being a minister of state, one thing which is very impressive for us as citizens of the country is the fact that his academic record is shining like a star, which means he can be trusted to make good decisions while holding the power.

Dr. Vaishnaw is a former IAS officer who graduated from IIT Kanpur and then went on to complete his education at the prestigious Wharton Business School. He was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha in 2019 and has served at the PMO when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the PM. Dr. Ashwini’s career stint includes his experience as an IAS officer, a CEO, a politician and even an entrepreneur.

He enjoys a great amount of goodwill from the National Human Rights Commission for his work as a collector in Odisha. After he finished his MBA degree at Wharton, he returned back home to crack the Civil services exam. He served as a collector till 2010 when he went on to become the MD for GE Transportation. He also served as a VP at Siemens.

In 2012, he further quit the corporate world and set up two locomotive units in Gujarat. He has been known for speaking up on a lot of issues ranging from Ship Recycling Bill to Women Protection in the Rajya Sabha as well. It is going to be a fresh change of energy in the cabinet to witness him use his prestigious experience in diverse fields and serve the nation.

Over the top, hyper-dramatic and awkwardly produced, these Indian television shows meant for the masses have aged like milk. I can’t believe there was a time growing up where my family would be huddled around the TV, unable to peel our eyes off Inspector Daya’s door-breaking bravados and Baa’s ridiculous age-defying antics. Most of these shows ended up running for years, producing several thousand episodes of mind-numbing shenanigans. Thankfully, with people our age growing up as well as gaining access to better content, we’re able to look back and see these shows for the utter cringe fest that they are.
So without further ado, here are 5 Indian shows that long outlasted their welcome:
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Still going strong, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has churned out over 3200 episodes since 2008. The show serves stale slapstick comedy and canned laughter as its bread and butter. Not to mention the never-ending plots and subplots. Bland characters didn’t really do it much favour in hindsight. It’s had its run, maybe it's time for the producers to go back to the drawing board and think of retiring this gig.

CID Although CID can be considered a cult classic, 1,547 episodes later, it was certain that the show had outstayed its welcome. Resorting to predictable and increasingly ridiculous plots, CID had aged into a show unrecognizable from its detective-show origins. Salunke’s goofy scientist act and ACP Pradyuman’s predictable resolutions pushed the show closer to its demise with each passing episode. It ran from 1998 to 2018.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi  What is this serial remembered for in hindsight? Is this show even remembered in 2021? Using plastic surgeries as a convenient plotline to change Mihir’s characters endlessly, Baa’s miracle of being relevant to the plot despite being alive since the time of the dinosaurs, or whether it be Smriti Irani’s Tulsi hitting new rock bottoms with each new twist. Whatever it may be, the viewers didn't deserve the 1,833 episodes they had to be subjected to from 2000 to 2008.

Saath Nibhaana Saathiya Gopi bahu became an internet personality and gained notoriety due to the now iconic scene where she washed a laptop, lathered it with detergent and hung it out on a clothesline to dry. The showrunners wanted her to come across as innocent and tech illiterate, but the only thing they managed to do was make her look like an idiot. Having put out 2184 episodes of torture, from 2010 to 2017, the series has found a spiritual successor in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2. God help us.
The Kapil Sharma ShowA true iconoclast, Kapil Sharma was offensive before it was cool. He’s found a way to piggyback off each successive controversy he’s embroiled in. There’s barely been an episode where he doesn’t spew something problematic or offensive. Kapil Sharma and his unfortunate cavalcade of shows need to be given a timeout for him to take stock of things, and hopefully return with something that doesn’t inspire schadenfreude. While The Kapil Sharma Show may have produced fewer episodes in comparison to the rest of the shows that made the list, 307 is still too many.

I’ll admit that there are certain shows that are fun to watch exclusively because they’re so bad. But it becomes a problem when such shoddy shows become representatives of mainstream Indian Television. Here’s hoping the universe is spared from such horrors in the future.

F9 or Fast & Furious 9 as purists will have you call the film may not have gone down well with most cinephiles or even the fans of the original The Fast & The Furious films. However, it did one thing good. It re-established the theatres and multiplexes, it reaffirmed going to the movies as a concept.

    © Universal Pictures
In just about a month, F9 had a box office collection of over $500 Million. In the post-Covid era, this is very huge, given just how few countries are allowing theatres to function.

    © Universal Pictures
Now though, with the release of Marvel’s Black Widow just round the corner, things are starting to look seriously bright for people who prefer to watch films in theatres, rather than their personal devices.

    © Marvel Studios
As Fandango, a movie ticket booking portal that functions primarily in the USA, Marvel’s Black Widow is set to decimate the post-covid records that F9 set. The buzz around Scarlett Johansson’s upcoming film is substantially more than that of F9, and it has even managed to beat the pre-release record set by Spider-Man: Homecoming.

    © Marvel Studios
As per Fandango, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming had advanced bookings to the tune of $103 Million. Black Widow, on the other hand, is just shy of hitting the $150 Million Mark.

    © Marvel Studios
Another thing that will be working in Black Widow’s favour, is the fact that this is the first film Marvel film to be released after the covid pandemic, and that this is the first film from Marvel’s hotly-anticipated Phase 4.

    © Marvel Studios
Also, given how this may very well be Scarlett Johansson and Natasha Romanoff’s final movie, fans are eager to watch this film in theatres. Right from Iron Man 2, as a character, Romanoff has been formidable.

    © Marvel Studios
Plus, the people who have already seen the film (yes, there are places where Marvel has hosted full-fledged screenings for audiences and fans) all report that the film is a roller coaster ride, and will certainly not leave fans disappointed.

After watching #BlackWidow all I have to say is, thank you Scarlett Johansson.

Natasha Romanoff 1000% deserved a trilogy & after watching this film I’m questioning more than ever, why didn’t we get one? I give it a 9.1/10.

Thank you for being the best & most perfect Natasha♥️🖤 pic.twitter.com/CdgerCZlhD
    — Nat 🤍 Black Widow & Yelena era (@Brie_Sparkles) July 7, 2021 I saw #BlackWidow yesterday, and it was so worth the wait. There’s so many things that I loved about it, but my god I wasn’t ready for it. I really loved Yelena too 🥰#NatashaRomanoff pic.twitter.com/0ZeHQMQz0B
    — Soph (@sophielovve) July 8, 2021 Even Marvel & Disney know just how humongous this is going to be. As a result, they have done something rather special.

    — Gabriel ⧗ (@dorksofprey) July 8, 2021Finally Natasha in her own film! and the best film in the MCU. The love shown to the women in this film is truly welcomed. #BlackWidow pic.twitter.com/W8haNGsEcX

One of the best duo ever.️ #BlackWidow pic.twitter.com/PEc7XZoI97
    — Cinema is the answer to everything. (@_amantedelcine_) July 8, 2021Final film or not, there’s simply no denying the fact that Natasha Romanoff has been awesome, and is perhaps one the most badass character ever written for a movie. No wonders fans of the MCU are rallying around her supposed final film with such fervour.

First of all, Nahi. Nahi kahenge, because what we have isn’t love for this film, it is a long list of questions that have been nagging at our heads ever since we saw it all of 283 times.
Thanks to the local TV operator back in the day who couldn’t get enough of Amisha Patel’s super tight wardrobe in the entire film...but that is a point we will raise later.
    © Filmkraft Productions
To bring you guys up to speed, the movie starts with a not-so-subtle introduction to our main lead Rohit aka Hrithik Roshan who is shown as a poor, orphan and a struggling musician.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Living at the behest of a Christian couple, up until now, Rohit and his younger brother Amit are making ends meet simply by looking cute and using all the butter on aunty and uncle instead of the toast.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Cut to the introduction of our second lead, Sonia aka Ameesha Patel who is spotted by Amit and Rohit at a red light, combing her hair in the scariest way possible, followed by an unnecessary and OTT hair flip.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Somehow, appealed by it, the creepy brother duo ends up giving her some fashion advice by basically telling her how ridiculous she looks with a gold sticker on her cheek. She takes it anyway because let’s face it, she did look ridiculous.

    © Filmkraft Productions
The movie soon establishes that Sonia is the daughter of a very rich Mr Saxena, one who buys his daughter an ugly looking red sports car and has a violin quartet sing happy birthday to her. Of course, Sonia would rather ride Rohit than the car (who was only here to deliver the car), but we don’t blame her for that…

    © Filmkraft Productions
Rohit meanwhile is busy trying to get a gig at a hotel...without so much as a band. After getting turned down, he then decides to sabotage Sonia’s birthday celebration to sing a rather slow and depressing song, one where women go crazy not for his singing, but simply for the treat he is to their eyes. A major stud alert moment for Rohit.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Enter two corrupt cops having a secret meeting with Rohit’s boss aka Mr Malik about all the drugs their department burned the previous day which was worth crores. But worry not, because they have saved a tiny fraction of the drugs and want their share of it. Wow, bad at acting and bad at being crooked officers. These guys were two for two!

    © Filmkraft Productions
By this time, Sonia is already in love with Rohit after seeing him for all of 3 times of which one time he actually gave her a lecture about being simple. After a subtle cry for attention that ends in her friendzoned-but-secretly-still-in-love-with-her buddy assuring her of Rohit’s presence on the cruise as a singer, Sonia is all set to rock his socks off.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Rohit, that dawg, is obviously running late and the only way he could come aboard now is by making an unnecessary grand entrance by climbing the sails and singing another song where people cheer him on like the next Pitbull.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Women are busy dropping their panties for Rohit while Sonia is losing her shit every time Rohit gets the attention of any girl.

    © Filmkraft Productions
When being annoying and bothered doesn’t work Sonia decides to throw a tantrum by drinking in a lifeboat. After some really bad acting and even worse dialogues later, both Sonia and Rohit pass out only to wake up lost in the middle of the sea the next morning.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Rohit, like a normal person in the situation is obviously losing his mind, while Sonia is busy enjoying her privilege and making a mini-vacation out of this very f**ked up episode of Lost.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Things take a misogynistic turn when Rohit forcibly takes Sonia’s skirt off to make a flag out of it. Because it was back in the 2000s when consent was not a thing.

2 minutes into being alone with Sonia, Rohit realises what he has on his hands is a psycho woman who wants to live on the island like Jane and Tarzan. A lot of awkward kissing and assault threats later, Rohit “accidentally” pushes Sonia into the sea.
    © Filmkraft Productions
But the joke's on him because he can’t swim and Sonia was just yanking his chain. Honestly, what he saw in Sonia apart from pure maniac behaviour is beyond us.

    © Filmkraft Productions
The two are finally rescued by Sonia’s dad who is just not happy and decides to ruin Rohit’s life by getting him kicked out of his job. Because that is what you get for saving a nutcase like her...
A lot of heavy dialogues about “apne pairon pe khada ho jaun” later, an impressed Mr Saxena promises to keep the commodity that Sonia is safe until he is rich enough to be worthy of her.
Sonia’s friends come together to put on a stage show for Rohit after getting his music recorded on a cassette, which is selling faster than candy.
    © Filmkraft Productions
    © Filmkraft Productions
Meanwhile, Mr Malik is not done being a smuggler or a b-grade villain as he arranges a meeting with the commissioner, in a parking lot of all places, to kill him. *Ae kya gunda banega re tu*

    © Filmkraft Productions
Rohit catches them and a broad daylight car chase later, is pushed into the sea where he obviously dies. As does our ability to hear after the supersonic cries of Sonia.

    © Filmkraft Productions
A lot of sad music and fake tears later, Sonia is finally sent off to New Zealand to live with her uncle and her cousin Neeta who is more irritating than her calling Ameesha Patel “SAUNYA” for the rest of the movie. I mean COME ON!

    © Filmkraft Productions
At yet another red light, SAUNYA meets Raj, Rohit’s doppelganger and decides to stalk him because if he looks like your dead ex, it’s allowed.

Raj on the other hand finds it sexy and gets the hots for SAUNYA.
Only to find the entire dead-ex angle, which he thought was good enough reason to follow her back to India. Because no means yes.
    © Filmkraft Productions
They land in India only to be attacked by bullets from Malik’s crooked cops who think it’s Rohit from beyond the grave. But in reality, it’s just Raj’s dumb f**king luck.
Amit, the younger free-loader who had gone mute after his brother’s accident, bumps into Raj, mistakes him for Rohit and finally speaks again. Their non-tear jerking reunion is interrupted by a sudden cop chase. But it is later on it is revealed that Amit had witnessed the entire shootout all those years back when Rohit was shot at, but the idiot that he was, decided to stay quiet. Because apparently, snitches end up in ditches.
    © Filmkraft Productions
The newfound secret helps Raj discover Malik’s role in Rohit’s death. But not before another musical show to lure the killers and waste some more of our time.

Raj, the idiot that he is, then rolls out an open invitation for his encounter by trying to reveal the names of cop killers in public, on a stage. OBVIOUSLY, he gets shot at, and a lot of chaos and poor direction later, Malik and his goons get caught.
    © Filmkraft Productions
But, kahaaani abhi baaki hai. The mastermind behind the entire operation, “Sir Jee” is still out on the loose.

    © Filmkraft Productions
Raj decides to use the cop’s phone to find out who he is and no guesses there, it is in fact Sonia’s own father. Because predictability was one of the key values for movies back in the day.

Saxena surrenders to the police and Raj adopts Amit in an attempt to get some sympathy booty. Which he probably does, because Sonia decides to return to New Zealand with him. Because this one is richer than the rag rat that was Rohit.
    The End.
