It is no surprise that India’s situation in the last few months while fighting the pandemic was a big blot of sad reality of how our healthcare system crumbled and how badly we struggled. Since the situation is a little under control and even though our fight against covid continues, the state governments have finally relaxed lockdown conditions around the country to ensure normalcy returns and businesses can go back to functioning.
Some citizens of this country have taken it as a personal moral duty to ensure that they make full use of these relaxations and beat the blues with a small vacation before the third wave sets in.
As many people on social media complained about Himachal Pradesh being choked with tourists and flouting social distancing norms, a new visual from Mussoorie has surfaced where our lovely citizens are seen enjoying the pleasure of the cool Kempty Falls.

The clip has gone viral on social media and for obvious reasons, so many people are mad at this.

We were just seeing the kempty falls video of Mussoorie, my friend said "log nange takra rahe hai ek doosre se" it's so damn unsettling to watch

Not 3rd wave or 12th Wave...https://t.co/CuWtvs79xE https://t.co/eC70xf7fdC
— ADITYA DAYANAND SINAI BHANGUI 🇮🇳 (@Bhangui) July 8, 2021But just like every coin has two sides, some people, like the tourists you see in this video, tried justifying this behaviour.
So poor people. They were trapped at their houses for so long. Now they got a chance to enjoy their life. It is very difficult for them to be trapped in their houses if govt ask them to fo so, as they need to enjoy as well. Go corona go
— Galaxy25 (@GalaxyX63345710) July 8, 2021Repeatedly, I have told the Govt that sitting in the house does not guarantee that you will not get Corona. My family and I got infected inspite of the fact that we did not go anywhere and my husband took the 1st dose. I totally understand what it feels being cooped up.
— Aditi (@aditisampat) July 8, 2021It is baffling to see that less than two months ago people were fighting and running for oxygen and hospital beds. So many people lost their family members and friends to Covid, and yet, as a nation that is crippling right now, we have zero sense of responsibility. It is really sad to know that a third wave might be inevitable if this continues.

While some have been on Clubhouse since early February or March of this year, I was a late entrant into this world. Having joined right after experiencing a severe bout of cabin fever, I ventured in once the rules had been set and established. However, with us entering the second year of the pandemic, a certain exhaustion had crept in for all. And it was evident as the world enmasse took to it like duck to water. Clubhouse has given meaning to a lot of people’s lives, but also has added to the endless noise that’s commonplace across all social media. However, there is something about the app that brings about the best and the worst in people. Maybe it’s the conversational nature of it, which many are drawn to. It serves as a balm to many while fuelling ugly fires in others.
Here’s the good, the bad and the ugly of the strange world of Clubhouse.
via GIPHY
THE GOOD Connecting Across DemographicsThe app suggests rooms on the basis of your interests as well as the people you follow and the rooms/clubs they haunt. You end up discovering many interesting and even novel discussions you otherwise would not have been able to be a part of.
via GIPHY
Capsule MentorshipOn Clubhouse, there are a variety of rooms and clubs hosted by subject matter experts across categories. If you’re a musician, a fashionista, a gastronomist, a writer or a cryptobro, or anyone with any interest, there’s now the opportunity for you to talk to people who have made it in that field. People that you otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. Elon Musk’s surprise visit to a room shot the popularity of this app through the roof.
via GIPHY
Political DiscourseCertain rooms enable a holistic and safe space for discussions of differing political opinions. However, this is where the moderator's ability to prevent conversations from getting sidetracked comes into play.
via GIPHY
Private Groups If you’ve had a shitty day, and just want to hangout with a few close people, Clubhouse is a great avenue. Especially so in the middle of a pandemic. It’s brought an alternate respite for people suffering from social isolation. It also offers introverted people a space to get comfortable with public talking. Private rooms also exist if you want to catch up without any interruptions.
via GIPHY
Support room for griefThis pandemic has been difficult on all of us with loss being a core theme. There are certain rooms that pop up from time to time that are meant to encourage intimate, vulnerable conversations in order to help process our collective grief. I’ve heard people open up about their experience of losing a loved one, losing their jobs, or even losing their sanity. Clubhouse’s conversational nature allows people to get emotional and mental support in such difficult times.
via GIPHY
THE BADPolitical Discourse Gone AwryWith the normalisation of violent politics in our country, some of that toxicity has seeped into the app as well. Often rooms get into trouble for hosting problematic conversations that can potentially be harmful for impressionable minds.
via GIPHY
Attention HoggingClubhouse has brought out a toxic side to many. With everyone rushing to be the next big influencer on the latest app, people often get in the rat race for social relevance. As Uncle Ben from Spiderman said, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Many seem to be unconcerned with that fact.
via GIPHY
Extreme BehaviourAs human beings, we’ve a desperate need to impress everyone around us. And sometimes that can become the breeding grounds for toxic behaviour. We’ve well established that people can really push the limits of social etiquettes for a morsel of relevance. However, many take it a step further and unleash hate and vitriol on seemingly innocuous conversations. Whether through agitation or serial posturing, shouting and calling people names to gain notoriety is not okay.
via GIPHY
THE UGLYTrash RoomsThere’s no scarcity of rooms that would burn your brain cells faster you can exit them, however the shoot your shot rooms take the cake. You’re single and you’re looking to mingle in the middle of a pandemic, so you drift into these rooms that are filled with seemingly attractive people. However, it does feel like you’ve got to barter your self respect and decency for a shot at someone who’s aesthetically pleasing. There have been rooms aplenty where people were ‘shot’ down rather aggressively without care or concern for them. The Roadies room is another avenue where brain cells are meant to die.
via GIPHY
Moderator MonopolyWhat makes or breaks a good room is the ability of the moderator. If they’re good, even the most mundane topics can seem exciting. But that’s a rarity on this app. Nuking the room is a popular concept, some do it when they’ve lost control over the room, while some do it because they want to watch the world burn. So be careful if you’ve found yourself in one of these, try not to take the events over here too seriously for your own sanity.
via GIPHY
The bottom line is that Clubhouse, like every other app at some point, is enjoying its time under the sun. Recent trends observe that a section of the audience is slowly losing interest. At the same time, it’s also implementing changes in real time on the basis of user interactions. While the trend is true, judging an audio-chat app on the basis of other visually-led social media apps would be incorrect. Organically, the initial brouhaha around it is justifiably going to fade away, but for the people who’ve benefited from this app, they’re gonna stay. At the end of the day, any social media app does what you want it to do, on the basis of your user behaviour. So if you don’t like what you hear, quietly leave for your mental peace.

It might be difficult to imagine this today but there was really a time when there was no social media, no OTT platforms like Netflix and Prime Video to binge shows on.
© Istock
You'd only have cable tv and outdoor games like cricket, football, pitthu, Kho-Kho to get you out of the never-ending cycle of boredom.
© Istock
However, if you were ever into comics, there were plenty of options to read from. This included DC Comics' Batman, Superman and Marvel's Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and so on.
No matter the variety, one cannot deny the absolute pleasure one derived from reading Indian comics like Tinkle, Chacha Chaudhary while sitting next to the window while it rained outside on a day-off from school.
© Istock
After all, it is the things that are the closest to home that really make you reminisce about the good old days, when things were simpler. Well, wouldn't it be fun if your favorite Indian comic books were brought to life just like how DC and Marvel comics are?
Here is a list of Indian comics that Netflix and Prime Video should definitely look at for entertaining live-action tv series.
1. Chacha Chaudhary © BCCL
There was never a doubt that this would be at the top of the list. Chacha Chaudhary was at the lips of every 90s kid who ever liked reading comics in India. Created by the legendary Pran Kumar Sharma in 1971, the Diamond Books comic had beloved Chacha Chaudhary, a frail but extremely intelligent middle-class elderly man, as the main protagonist.
Chacha was aided by his muscle man, Sabu, who was an alien from planet Jupiter, and together they'd go on to solve a number of crimes and mysteries. While there has already been a 2002 television series on Chacha Chaudhary, we cannot imagine why OTT platforms cannot choose to reboot the series in a fashion similar to the hit tv series of today.
2. Super Commando Dhruv © Raj Comics
If Akshay Kumar ever wanted to try his luck in an OTT series, the Khiladi of Bollywood would not have a better opportunity than starring as the main character of Indian comic Super Commando Dhruv.
Dhruv Mehra or Super Commando Dhruv is a superhero belonging to the fictional Indian city of Rajnagar, who founded a government-approved crime-fighter organization Commando Force, to fight evil.
What makes him stand out from other heroes of the Marvel and DC universe is the fact that he neither possesses superpowers nor has an alter ego, but chooses to fight crime solely on the basis of his genius-level intellect, physical strength as well as his ability to communicate with most birds and animals. We've already seen Akshay in similar one-man-army type roles before, and Super Commando Dhruv is a role he should totally jump on for a TV series.
3. Parmanu © Raj Comics
This is one comic book that certainly would have everything to be a successful original on Netflix or Prime Video.Published by Raj Comics, Parmanu explores the story of Vinay, a high school student, who after witnessing the murder of his classmate at the hands of a police officer, carves his path of becoming a superhero.
After witnessing the murder, Vinay goes into hiding before turning to his uncle Professor K.K. Verma for protection. However, to his surprise, his uncle provides him with a suit capable of superhuman abilities. After donning the suit, Vinay becomes Wonderman Parmanu who has the ability to fly at tremendous speeds, teleport, change his own size as well as shoot atomic bombs.
Tell me again. How does this not set up for a cool Indian Superhero television series like Loki or The Falcon And The Winter Soldier?
4. Spider-Man: India © Marvel
Okay, this might not really be a comic that can be categorized under being 100 percent Indian, however, it still has an Indian character as the main protagonist with the surroundings being Indian as well.
Originating back in 2004 and published by Gotham Entertainment Group, Spider-Man India centered around the life of Pavitra Prabhakar who gets Spidey's wall-crawling and web-throwing powers from a Yogi in order to fight crime.
One of the most iconic things about the Indian Spidey is that the character wears a Dhoti underneath a spandex upper body Spider suit. This along with a gripping storyline and a stellar cast can be a part of a successful blueprint to becoming an extremely successful Indian TV series.
5. Chakra The Invincible © Marvel
Similar to Spider-Man India, this superhero comic book is a mix of Indian as well as western elements. However, it stands as the first Indian superhero that was ever created by the great Stan Lee, and therefore, has to be mentioned.
The comic explores the story of a Mumbai-based resident, Raju Rai, who comes to possess a sophisticated technological suit that weaponizes all the Chakras in his body, enabling him to turn into a crime-fighting superhero.
The whole concept of chakras has a huge significance especially in India and to base a superhero around that is downright awesome.
If one just gets a good script and a decent cast to put the TV series into motion, India might finally give some tough competition to the west, who are continuously churning out Superhero content by the minute.

Ravi Shastri, prior to becoming Team India’s head coach, was one of the most renowned commentators in the broadcasting industry and his voice made some of the most iconic moments in the history of Indian cricket even more enjoyable -- be it MS Dhoni hitting a six to end India’s 28-year drought for ODI World Cup or Yuvraj Singh hitting six sixes in an over during the 2007 World T20.

The man who popularised the simile ‘like a trace of a bullet’ was always known for his immaculate choice of words, but it has been a while since we saw Shastri holding the microphone in the commentary box and it seems, the former India all-rounder has also lost his touch.
© Reuters
Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government announced several changes to its cabinet and former BCCI president Anurag Thakur was given double responsibility of Sports Ministry and Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Shastri took to Twitter to congratulate the former BCCI administrator for taking oath as country’s new sports minister and getting promoted to the status of Union Cabinet minister, that too of two important portfolios.
Great to see a former @BCCI President become the Sports Minister in the Union cabinet. Congratulations on the double whammy @ianuragthakur ji 🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/RDL4WpmSNh
— Ravi Shastri (@RaviShastriOfc) July 7, 2021
“Great to see a former @BCCI President become the Sports Minister in the Union cabinet. Congratulations on the double whammy @ianuragthakur ji,” Shastri wrote on the micro-blogging site.
While his intentions were good, Shastri ended up making a mockery of himself by using wrong words, which gave his haters a chance to troll him yet again.
Double Whammy ? And congratulate for a double whammy ? Sir, double whammy means ‘a twofold blow or setback’ which is what it is for Indian sports
— Ajay Kamath (@AjKamath) July 7, 2021Double whammy Ka matlab wo nahin jo aksar celebs samajhte hain. Very common mistake. pic.twitter.com/yQc6YXNbaO
— Fahad (@ThatOldDelhiGuy) July 8, 2021How is it double whammy Mr Shastri?? As for as I know Double whammy means two unpleasant situations that cause problems for somebody.... whammy ki koi aur meaning bhi aai h kya market mei yaa aapne thodi si tika ke tweet kia h???
— Amarjeet kumar (@Amarjee32865700) July 8, 2021 pic.twitter.com/FeQOxAYNVK
— Bhaskar (@bhaskarvh) July 7, 2021Waste of money which paid to #Lodha committee. Out aa president In as minister. Hard reality of our reforms in BCCI which monitored by the great Supreme Court.
— Loans Thru Banks (@loansthrubanks) July 8, 2021“Double Whammy”? - It means double setback. Did you really mean it or wrong choice of words?
— Kiran Aswath (@kiranashwath) July 8, 2021@adityajoshipura pic.twitter.com/Kacp9pV7Op
— Reeshoubh Pount (@thirty6allout) July 8, 2021 The Indian team head coach was targeted for using the word “double whammy” without knowing its real meaning. The word Shastri means “a situation in which two bad conditions exist at the same time or two bad things happen one after the other”.
Shastri wanted to congratulate the new Union Cabinet minister for getting two important ministries but the word he used gave a completely different context to his thoughts and people started trolling him left right and centre.
© BCCL
Under Shastri, India have managed to register some memorable victories in bi-lateral series Shastri both home and away, despite that he has to face unnecessary criticism for some weird reasons.
Skipper Virat Kohli and Shastri were criticised for overstepping in their role and making unjustifiable demands to the selectors. Apart from that, fans have often blamed Shatri for failing to motivate the players in the crucial knockout games as they bowed out of the ICC events year after year.
