Sirisha Bandla will be the second Indian-born woman to fly into space after Kalpana Chawla on July 11th. “I am so incredibly honored to be a part of the amazing crew of Unity22, and to be a part of a company whose mission is to make space available to all,” Bandla said on microblogging site Twitter. Sirisha’s role during the test flight will be to evaluate research experience according to Virgin Galactic.

During the space flight, which is the 22nd for VSS Unity, Sirisha's role will be to evaluate research experience.
Bandla was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh and grew up in Houston Texas. Her father, Muralidhar Bandla is an agriculture scientist. He emigrated to the United States for better opportunities and is currently working at the US Embassy in India.
She is a graduate of aeronautical engineering from Purdue University. Bandla started working at Virgin Galactic in 2015 and is currently the company’s vice president of government affairs. She also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Georgetown University.
Bandla worked as an aerospace engineer in Texas before joining Virgin Galactic in 2015. She also served at the Commercial Spaceflight Federation (CSF), an industry association of commercial spaceflight companies with responsibilities covering space policy. She has also worked as a technical engineer at L-3 Communications, a company that deals in command and control, communications, intelligence, surveillance, avionics, ocean products, training devices and services, instrumentation, aerospace, and navigation products.

Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, former Chief Minister NN Chandrababu Naidu tweeted saying “Indian-origin women continue to break the proverbial glass ceiling and prove their mettle. On July 11, Sirisha Bandla with Telugu roots is set to fly to space aboard VSS Unity with Richard Branson and the team marking the dawn of the new space age, making all Indians proud," the post read.

Billionaire Richard Branson is set to travel to the edge of space on Virgin Galactic’s test flight on July 11th. The flight is expected to last approximately 60 to 75 minutes. The VSS Unity 22 will take off and land back at Virgin Galactic's Spaceport America in New Mexico.

Cricket, often described as a gentleman’s game, has had its fair share of controversies over the years and many players, if proven guilty, have faced severe consequences for their unethical actions which include doing, ball-tampering, spot-fixing and misbehaviour on the field.
The game which began as a recreational activity has become a multi-billion dollar business and with this kind of money the game is becoming more and more competitive with each passing day and sometimes players feel the heat and lose their cool on the field, if anything goes against their plan.

The sledging between players from different oppositions is a common sight on a cricket field. It’s a tool which players have been using to get under the skin of their opponents since ages but sometimes it also has a ripple-effect and there have been several instances where players from the same team had a go at each other.

From verbal exchanges to using expletives, from pointing fingers to charging towards each other, we have seen it all.
Kohli Losing Cool At Shardul © Reuters
Everyone knows Indian skipper Virat Kohli wears his heart on his sleeve and plays the game with a lot of passion. Famous for his aggression, Kohli never holds back and that’s why even the Australians, who are the masters when it comes to sledging, are afraid to poke him because it might come back to haunt them.

Kohli’s demands a lot from his players and often loses his cool whenever a teammate makes even the smallest of mistakes. During the third T20I between India and England earlier this year, Shardul Thakur’s sloppy fielding effort allowed the opposition one easy run and Kohli expressed his frustration, by allegedly using some expletives for the fast bowler.
    When Nehra Abused Dhoni
This perhaps is the most famous incident of an Indian player abusing his own teammate because it involved MS Dhoni.
The incident happened during an ODI between India and Pakistan in 2005 and back then Dhoni was not the same player that we know today. He was a rookie who had made his debut in December 2004 and was trying to find his feet in international cricket.
    © Reuters
In the match, he scored 47 runs off 64 balls as India posted 315 runs batting first. Shahid Afridi, who was batting on 10, edged an outside off stump ball which flew past Dhoni and raced to the fence.

Unhappy with Dhoni’s effort, Nehra was heard cursing Dhoni for not trying hard enough. Nehra later claimed he had apologised to Dhoni for his misbehaviour, but the ‘Thala’ fans always hold it against him.
Raina, Jadeja Go Head To Head
Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja played a lot of cricket together and continue to share the dressing room in the Indian Premier League, where both of them play for Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni.
Fresh from winning the Champions Trophy in 2013, the Indian team went to the Caribbean for a tri-series, with Sri Lanka as the third team. The team lost the first two matches and making things were skipper Dhoni was also ruled out with a hamstring injury.
    © Reuters
Kohli was asked to step in as the stand-in skipper and he didn;t disappoint, leading the side to a comfortable win in a must-win match. However, more than the team's triumph, the match is remembered for the famous fight between Raina and Jadeja.

Raina, regarded as one of the best fielders, had a poor day in the field as he dropped Sunil Narine twice in the innings. Jadeja finally got the better of the West Indies spinner and walked up to Raina and said something while pointing fingers at him led to a heated altercation between two good friends.
    Dhoni Curses Manish Pandey
Throughout his career, one thing that became synonymous to Dhoni was his cool and calm demeanour. However, there were some instances, when even he couldn’t keep his calm and vent out his anger on his teammates.
During the second T20I between India and South in 2018, Dhoni was batting with Manish Pandey and the duo had stitched an important 98-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
    © Reuters
In the final over of the innings, Dhoni lost his cool and was heard yelling at Pandey to pay his attention rather than looking somewhere else.

The incident, however, had divided opinions with some thinking Dhoni abused Pandey while others argued that he didn’t. Whatever the case may be, we saw Dhoni losing his control and that was a rarity.
    Laxman Shouts At Pragyan Ojha
The heat of the moment can lead to even the coolest of cricketers drift away from their natural behaviour and do something that no one expected of you. VVS Laxman played many memorable knocks throughout his illustrious career and got the team over the line.
While everyone remembers his famous knock at Eden Gardens, his innings at Mohali’s PCa Stadium is often forgotten, where he plucked a win literally out of the jaws of defeat.
    © Reuters
In the Mohali Test between India and Australia in 2010, Laxman was India’s only hope but he was battling back problems. He showed great character and got India close to the target.

India were nine wickets down and Laxman knew he had to retain the strike for the next over. He pushed the ball towards mid-off and his runner Raina went for the run but Pragyan Ojha sent him back, which left Laxman so furious that he screamed at him in absolute rage. Luckily, India won the thrilling encounter as Ojha survived at the other end.

The New York Times (NYT) is looking for a correspondent in India but the publications’ credibility came under fire because of the job description. The publication is looking for a South Asia Business Correspondent in New Delhi but has weird prerequisites and conditions for potential candidates.
    © Reuters
The job posting on its website described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as someone who advocates "self-sufficient, muscular nationalism, centred on the country's Hindu majority”. The posting goes on to state that “Under Narendra Modi, its charismatic Prime Minister, India has moved to rival China’s economic and political heft in Asia - a drama playing out along their tense border and within national capitals across the region.”

    © New York Times
Kanchan Gupta, advisor to the Indian Government took to Twitter and said "NYT has dropped all pretences of impartiality with this job ad for a South Asia Correspondent. They are clearly looking to hire an anti-Modi activist who can also stoke anti-Indian sentiments in our neighbourhood. With this, the paper qualifies as a foreign-funded NGO." he tweeted.

    © Reuters
Several social media users based in India questioned the need to make such scathing remarks in a job description and claimed that the NYT is clearly looking for a biased journalist in the country. The publication also goes on to mention the new IT rules saying that the “government’s growing efforts to police online speech and media discourse have raised difficult questions about balancing issues of security and privacy with free speech.”

The job posting also referred to the border clashes between India and China as a “drama playing out along their tense border and within national capitals across the region.”
It’s clear that the New York Times is looking to hire a correspondent in the country that has a clear bias and would be overly critical of the Indian Government and the Prime Minister. While criticism of the Indian Government is warranted when needed, hiring a correspondent in India that must meet these prerequisites defeats the purpose of unbiased reporting. At the time of writing, the job posting is still available to view, which you can read in full here (https://g.co/kgs/tgBdMd).
Do you think a reporter should be unbiased at any publication and shouldn’t have to meet such prerequisites for a job? Let us know in the comments what you think about The New York Times job posting.

OnePlus officially announced that it is integrating OxygenOS with Oppo’s ColorOS and said that the integration would be on a deeper level to bring faster and more stable software updates. Fans of the smartphone brand didn’t take the announcement well.

“After a lot of evaluation and discussion, we’ve come up with a solid plan to best leverage our shared resources with OPPO. In order to improve efficiency and standardise the software experience across our portfolio, we’re working on integrating the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS. This is a change that you will likely not even notice since it’s happening behind the scenes. We now have a larger and even more capable team of developers, more advanced R&D resources, and a more streamlined development process all coming together to improve the OxygenOS experience,” Gary C, OxygenOS Product Lead, said in a blog post.

    © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
The announcement comes weeks after OnePlus said it would have more resources and create better products with its integration with Oppo. OxygenOS is often considered to be one of the best Android skin right now. However, many fans are concerned that this “deeper integration” may just ruin the experience on OnePlus phones. “Damn RIP OnePlus,” a user said on Twitter.  Another Twitter user said, “This ends my and many tech enthusiasts' love for OnePlus.”

As for the details, both companies’ software will remain separate; however what’s concerning is that both OxygenOS and ColorOS will share a common codebase. OnePlus says that it will standardise its software experience and streamline the development process for future OxygenOS updates.
    © Unsplash/denis-cherkashin
OnePlus also says that it will allow the company to give better Android update support going forward. Here’s what OnePlus’ roadmap looks like after the “deeper integration.”

    1. Flagship phones including the T and R models get three major Android updates and four years of security updates.
    2. Nord and Nord CE phones get two major Android updates and three years of security updates
    3. Nord N phones will get one major Android update and three years of security updates.
While we aren’t sure about OnePlus’ decision to share a common source code, we can definitely say that the company’s “Never Settle” tagline applies to them. It certainly seems like the company has “settled” for deeper integration with Oppo and becoming a sub-brand of the company rather than having any identity of its own.

Bollywood as an industry is a gamut of controversies mixed with entertainment. While we mostly get to see the ‘good’ side of everyone in B-town during interviews, promotions and media interactions, like every field out there, the entertainment industry also has its own dark side of struggles, failures and untold stories of actors. One of the most recognisable faces and also known for his roles as a villain, Sharat Saxena also has his own struggle to share. He is 71, has starred in more that 300 films including names like Mr. India and Ajnabee, so one would assume that the seasoned actor is surrounded  with comfort around him. However, in a recent interview following the promotions of his latest movie Sherni, Sharat opened up about the sad reality of ageism in Bollywood and how it affects his career as well.

    View this post on Instagram
He spoke about his struggle of being 71 but the pressure to look 45 to continue getting work here is a major task. “Jahaan aap budhe lagne lage, you are thrown out of the film industry. An actor, and I am talking about the heroes/the leads, they have got the toughest job in the world. They have to look young, they have to look tough and they have to do that for 365 days a year, which is not possible. It is not normal. In fact, in every other profession, you get a break. For example, an athlete has to prepare for, let’s say, two months. He takes part in a competition, comes back home, rests and gains weight. But a Hindi film star has to look and be fit throughout the year. He has to work out every day, and yet party every day. He has to do everything every day and still survive. I do the same thing. I don’t party but I am working out every day. I am 71 but I have to try and look 45 years old. This is how it is. The moment you start looking old, you are thrown out of the film industry. This is a young people’s industry. Everybody has to be young. You are old or not, doesn't matter. You have to look young. It is a crime to be an old man here”, he mentioned in an interview recently.

Just like every profession in the world, Bollywood stars need to maintain a certain level of fitness, which can sometimes be unrealistic but is unfortunately a strict job requirement. However, Sharat seems to be faring well with his fitness game going super strong.

Ever since India lost the World Test Championship final to New Zealand, Virat Kohli’s captaincy has come under scrutiny. Despite winning bilateral series all over the world, Kohli has yet to lay his hands on a major ICC trophy which has led to some supporters losing their faith in his leadership skills.
The expectation from Kohli was always going to be high because the man he replaced had achieved what no else did. MS Dhoni is the only captain to win all-three major ICC titles in white-ball cricket.
    © Reuters
No one is saying India are playing poorly but their continued struggle in the knockout stages of an ICC tournament has made fans lose their patience and former national selector Saba Karim feels the pressure is mounting on Kohli.

The former India wicket-keeper feels how India fare in the upcoming T20 World Cup could very well determine if Kohli keeps his job as the skipper or not.
    © Reuters
“The T20 World Cup that is going to be played later this year will be extremely crucial for Virat Kohli's captaincy career. The pressure is piling on Virat and he knows that he hasn't won an ICC trophy yet. So, his aim would be for India to win the T20 World Cup,” Karim told India News Sports.

“If India can lift the trophy, then I believe Kohli will have that breathing space. Maybe he can take stock of the situation then and decide how long he wants to captain the team. His name is coming up in the list of big captains but an ICC title is far from him,” he added.
    © Reuters
“In all three formats, you have World Championships, and all formats require a different mindset, different resources, different thinking. That's why I feel that if one captain is leading, it will be too much to expect from him as well. With every format, you need a fresh set of ideas and that is why I feel split captaincy should be the way forward,” he said, suggesting India should perhaps look at the split-captaincy formula, adopted by several big teams like Australia and England.

Not just the Indian team, Kohli’s record as the RCB is not something to write home about as he has not won a single title despite boasting a team full of superstars.
    © Reuters
If the selectors decide to go with different captains for all three formats, there is no dearth of options, with the most popular candidates being Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane for T20I and Test formats respectively.

Rohit is the most successful captain in the IPL history with five titles, while Rahane has proved his calibre as a Test leader when he guided India to a historic Test series win Down Under against all odds, earlier this year.

With three major ICC tournaments lined up in the next three years, including 2021 T20 WC, the clock is certainly ticking fast for ‘Kohli - The Leader’ and he must deliver silverware in order to  remain at the helm.

Here’s what fans have to say:
I hope we won't enter this World cup with kohlis as the captain. Don't want to see them bottle one more icc trophy. Hoping for a miracle
    — अभिमन्यु सिंह (@__Abhimanyu_S) July 2, 2021So is Rahul dravid & Ganguly..They too havent won..So arent they good leader? We dont care if he wins ICC tournament or not. He has lead from front & importantl has built strong core team. Proud of him!
    — Bhavesh prajapati (@Bhuvi687) July 2, 2021But if he won't win that then gentaly replace him from captaincy
    — Kunal (@Kunal67809572) July 2, 2021And he will not win the T20 World Cup either
    — Sab Changa Si (सरफरोशी की तमन्ना अब दिल में है) (@philpjg) July 3, 2021He is going to captain till 2023 WC with no ICC trophy. Mark my statement ! Rohit sharma is the man. Virat won test series back in Australia so did Ajinkya last year (most memorable series) so in a nutshel he hasn’t won any extraordinary series or tournaments as such.
    — Prashant Shanbhag (@iampshanbhag18) July 3, 2021Does our captain knows our 1st playing xi... No not at all... The music chair is still on... This way u cant win icc events...

Celebrity couples spell ‘couple goals’ for the general public but what happens when a couple you are rooting for decides to call it quits? One of the most loved couples of B-town, actor Aamir Khan and his director wife Kiran Rao have announced their divorce after being married for over 15 years.

    © BCCL
The divorce is a mutual settlement and the couple has issued a joint statement mentioning that they will continue co-parenting their son Azad and will also continue their professional partnership on Paani foundation.  “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives - no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other” , the statement reads. The statement further stated that they had been separated for a while and it was time for them to formalise it now. “We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together” , it reads.

    © Instagram
The couple fell in love while working together on Lagaan where Kiran was an assistant director. Lagaan was a turning point for Aamir, professionally and personally. He and his former wife Reena divorced after his link-up with Kiran became official news. The couple later got married in an intimate ceremony in December 2005. While it is shocking and surprising for their fans, it is a good thing that this is an amicable separation and the couple has opened up about it honestly, so that no further controversies rise up from this piece of breaking news.
