Team India’s limited-overs series against Sri Lanka gets underway on July 13, week-and-a-half from now but the tour has already started making headlines for various reasons.
Be it Ranatunga attacking the Sri Lanka Cricket for hosting a second-string Indian team and disrespecting the Indian players by calling them “weak” or SLC issuing a clarification, the series has already garnered some negative headlines.
Ahead of the series, the broadcasters released the list of commentators who would be presenting the game in different languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, among others.
Commentators panel for India Vs Sri Lanka series:

    English:
    - Sanjay Majrekar.
    - Ajit Agarkar.
    - Matt Flyod.
    - Ajay Jadeja.

    Hindi:
    - Vivek Razdan.
    - Amit Mishra.
    - Mohammad Kaif.
    - Arjun Pandit.
    - Saba Karim.

    On Ground:
    - Murali Kartik.
    - Russel Arnold.

The prospect of watching their team play limited-overs cricket excited many fans but they weren’t too happy about the commentary panel, especially Sanjay Manjrekar, who has developed a strong love and hate relationship with the Indian fans over the years.

The cricketer-turned-commentator is known for speaking his mind but his analysis has also got him in troubled waters many times -- with the most famous incident being him describing all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as a “bits and pieces player” during  the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Jadeja is one of the most loved cricketers in the country and Majrekar’s comment wasn't well received by the fans or even the cricketer himself who posted a strong tweet and asked him to stop his “verbal diarrhoea”.
Still i have played twice the number of matches you have played and i m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved.i have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea.@sanjaymanjrekar
    — Ravindrasinh jadeja (@imjadeja) July 3, 2019
Manjrekar recently courted another unnecessary controversy by saying that he doesn’t think Ravichandran Ashwin is a world-class bowler.
"Ravichandran Ashwin, with due respect to him, I think he's a great guy at what he does, but when people start talking about him as one of the all-time greats, I have a few problems with that," Manjrekar said in a ESPNcricinfo video.

"One basic problem that I have with Ashwin is that when you look at SENA, the countries for batsmen and bowlers, places where Indians find themselves outside their comfort zone - it's amazing that he doesn't have a single five-wicket haul. Not one five-wicket haul in all these countries," he added.
Manrekar’s knack of stirring controversies has tainted his reputation as an analyst and whenever he makes a comeback as a commentator, fans don’t react to it too kindly and this time was no different.

One of the favourite couples in Bollywood, actor Aamir Khan and his director wife Kiran Rao shocked industry insiders and their fans when they announced that they are getting divorced. The couple issued a joint statement explaining that they will continue working together on professional commitments and will be co-parents to son Azad. After 15 years of marriage , this actually came as a big sad surprise to everyone.

Their love story was not ‘filmy’, but a gradual progression of friendship. Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutt, who was his childhood sweetheart. In his interviews he had mentioned how he wooed her and tried to win her love. They were neighbours and would often sit at the window for hours while looking at each other. Infact, true to his filmy avatar, he once wrote her a letter written in blood! After 16 years of marriage and two kids later, Aamir announced back in 2002 that he and Reena were parting ways but continued remaining friends. She in fact was also a producer for Lagaan. Talking about Lagaan, the movie was more than India’s entry to the Oscars. Aamir met Kiran on the set during the shoot. Kiran was an assistant director on the set and they were just colleagues until much later.

Many people believed that his divorce with Reena happened after he got close to Kiran but that is far from the truth. After his divorce in 2002, he became close friends with Kiran and realised that they were more than just ‘friends’ now. In an interview he mentioned that speaking to Kiran during the tough period of his ongoing divorce with Reena helped him a lot. “My God! I feel so happy when I talk to her”, he exclaimed. The second time love happened to Mr. Perfectionist, he took it slow. Kiran and Aamir reportedly were in a live-in relationship for more than a year when they decided to take a natural step towards cementing this companionship. Love blossomed full time for them and in December 2005, the two tied the knot in an intimate ceremony amongst family and friends. Few years later, they had a son named Azan via surrogacy and have collaborated on numerous professional commitments as well.

This is an ordinary story with extra ordinary love between two individuals which has probably not ended, but definitely taken a different shape now. Here’s wishing the two continue maintaining this amicability between each other. s

The upcoming series against Sri Lanka is Team India’s last limited-overs assignment before the 2021 T20 World Cup, which has been shifted to the UAE and Oman due to the coronavirus pandemic situation in India.
The team will play a total of six matches, three ODIs and as many T20Is, on the tour and there are a few players who would be eager to impress the selectors with their performance and  make a strong case for their inclusion in the World Cup squad.

India’s senior players, including skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy in white-ball cricket, Rohit Sharma, are currently in England for a Test series, which has left a few positions vacant and head coach Rahul Dravid, in consultation with Kohli and Ravi Shastri, might give a chance to some of the youngsters who are in reckoning for the marquee event.
Here are five players who might make a case for T20 World Cup squad:
    Deepak Chahar © Reuters
Team India’s fast bowling line-up has become one of its major strengths, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami almost certain to make the cut. The pace attack looks more or less settled but someone like Deepak Chahar, who is capable of swinging the ball upfront, might be considered as a backup to Bhuvi, who has struggled with multiple injuries off late.

    Prithvi Shaw © Reuters
Shikhar Dhawan, who will be captaining India in Sri Lanka, is not sure of his own place in the T20 World Cup squad but the competition is not going down. In fact, it’s only going to increase much more with his IPL teammate Prithvi Shaw also in contention for the same spot. The young opener was dropped from the Test side last year, since then he has shifted his focus on the white-ball cricket.

Shaw took the domestic circuit by storm when he amassed 827 runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy and carried the same form into the first half of the IPL 2021, scoring 308 runs at a strike rate of 166.48. He keeps scoring runs at the same pace, then selectors would have no choice but to include him in the squad for the showpiece event.

The Mumbai Indians batsman got his maiden national call-up after a long wait against England earlier this year and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The fight for a middle-order spot is getting tougher by the day, and along with his performance he also needs the  rub of the green to make the cut.

Krunal Pandya © Instagram Krunal Pandya
The all-rounder was part of the last limited-overs series against England and proved his worth with both bat and ball. Making his ODI debut during that series, the senior Pandya went on to break the world record of fastest fifty by a debutant. Being a left-arm orthodox bowler who could also bat, Krunal faces tough competition from the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel but strong Sri Lanka would only increase his chances.

Ishan Kishan © Instagram Ishan Kishan
He was another Mumbai Indians player who made his international debut in March this year against England. He played fearless cricket and scored a match-winning fifty opening the innings on his debut and made the world take note of his talent.  While KL Rahul can keep wickets in the shortest format but Ishan Kishan being a specialist can be a better option and he could easily bat in the top-order.

Rahul Chahar © Instagram Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar has been one of the standout performers for Mumbai Indians in the last few seasons and played ahead of regular leg-spinner Yuzendra Chahal against England. He was on fire in the first half of IPL 2021, picking up 11 wickets in just seven matches and is likely to start the matches in Sri Lanka as well. The 21-year-old leggie has seen his stock rise significantly in the last few years and we wouldn’t be surprised if he made it into the World Cup squad.

Varun Chakravarthy © Twitter Varun Chakravarthy
The Kolkata Knight Riders mystery spinner was called to the national team twice but couldn’t make his debut first due to injury and then because of failing the fitness test. But given his talent, the selectors have once again included him in the Indian team and we are keeping fingers crossed that he gets third time lucky. While India has no dearth of spinners, Chakravarthy is a mystery spinner which makes him stand out from the rest. If he delivers in Sri Lanka, there are high chances that selectors might pick him in the squad as a surprise package.
