Creative inspiration comes from different places and when I say places, I literally mean other cultures, countries and continents.
Just like Bollywood takes inspiration from other cinema, Pakistan’s Lollywood has been largely influenced by Indian cinema too, whether or not they would admit it.
© Hats Off Productions
However, recently, Pakistani PM Imran Khan encouraged filmmakers to stop copying or being inspired by Indian films and dramas and rather push out more original content to promote ‘Pakistaniyat’ and keep the local cinema and TV going.
© Twitter
This reminded us of all the times Pakistan got “inspired” from Bollywood.
While sometimes it gave due credit and said it was a remake, many times, it blatantly copied from Indian cinema and TV.
© BOL Entertainment
Here are 5 such Pakistani TV dramas and films that were copied straight from Bollywood:
1. Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida from Judaai © Hum Network Limited
The movie that was nothing like the mainstream Bollywood film, Judaai tells the story of a married woman who dreams of becoming wealthy and sells her husband to a filthy rich woman in a bid to fulfil that dream.
The audience noticed that the Pakistani drama Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida followed a similar plotline, after which the makers said it “may be inspired” by the 90s hit Bollywood film.
2. Chana Jor Garam from Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai © BOL Entertainment
Yes, there exists an exact remake of the iconic show Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai in Pakistan and it goes by the name Chana Jor Garam, where a Rosesh-like character recites ghazals and sher and the middle-class bahu is always taunted by her elite MIL.
The makers and actors of the Hindi show were irked by the inaccurate and unofficial copy from Lollywood, and so were we.
3. Arth: The Destination from Arth © Cinestar 5th Element
Pakistani director Shaan Shahid released Arth: The Destination that follows the same story of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1982 film of the same name.
It was heavily influenced by it but Shahid gave due credit. He even approached Bhatt to mentor him throughout the production and titled the film Arth 2 to show it as an official Urdu remake of Bhatt’s film.
4. Koi Nahi Apna from Akele Hum Akele Tum © ARY Digital
A couple falls in love, gets married despite the family’s disapproval and later, parts ways because they can’t handle the daily responsibilities of marriage and career. Sounds familiar?
This is a plotline of Pakistani drama Koi Nahi Apna inspired from Akele Hum Akele Tum. However, the couple has a daughter instead of a son like in the movie and instead of the mother, the ambitious father leaves his wife to take care of their child.
5. Cheekh from Damini © Big Bang Entertainment
Another Pakistani drama that seems to have taken inspiration from Bollywood is Cheekh, which has multiple similarities with Hindi crime drama Damini starring Sunny Doel and Meenakshi Seshadri.
Both female protagonists witness heinous rape of their closed one committed by their brother-in-law and set out to seek justice for them, despite opposition from the wealthy families who want to keep the incident under wraps.

When India lost to New Zealand in the World Test Championship final in Southampton, a picture of the two skippers, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson (v), went viral on social media where both of them were hugging each other after the match.
Kohli and Williamson know each other from their Under-19 days and their friendship has only grown over the years, especially in the last couple of years.
© Reuters
The picture of Kohli and Williamson sitting together near the boundary line is still fresh in every heart.
Kohli himself had said that the camaraderie between him and Williamson is so special that they could talk about not just cricket but life in general.
Williamson, regarded as one of the sweetest cricketers out there, also reciprocates the same feeling for the Indian skipper and in a recent interview said that he and Kohli are like good mates.
View this post on Instagram
"It was a great moment, you know, toe to toe, and obviously, Virat and I have known each other for a long time and we're mates. And that's always a great part of the sport as well that over the years you get the opportunity to meet people all around the world, form these different friendships through these different experiences you have had either together or against each other and often find a bit of common ground and share a few common interests and that's quite special," Williamson told India Today.
© Reuters
Apart from the on-field rivalry, the Blackcaps are known as the ‘good guys’ of the game and it’s hard for any opposition to dislike them and Kohli is an exception either.
In fact, last year when India toured New Zealand, Kohli, ahead of the Test series, had said that if there was any team they would like to share their number one spot, it would be New Zealand.
“If we had to share our number 1 spot with any other team, that will be New Zealand,” Kohli said during an event hosted by the Indian High Commission to New Zealand.
© Twitter ICC
“Over the last three to four years we have reached a stage where every team wants to beat us and New Zealand won’t be any different but the difference is that there won’t be any spite in it and that’s one reason why I can sit with Kane on the boundary line and have a conversation, mid-game, about life and not cricket,” the Indian skipper added.
The mutual admiration and respect India and New Zealand have for each other is at a different level, and things haven’t changed even after the Kiwis broke billions of hearts by knocking India out in the last two major ICC events -- 2019 ODI World Cup and WTC Final.

“One whiskey sour, please!”
If you’re someone who loves to indulge in a good cocktail once in a while, you probably don’t need a menu. You know exactly what you like and your choice rarely changes.
However, do you ever get curious about why you like that one liquor so much?
Why do you always prefer gin over whiskey or beer over wine?
Well, we may have an answer for you. Keep reading and you’ll know what your taste in alcohol says about your personality!
1. Whiskey © iStock
Whiskey is one of the most popular drinks across the world, however, that doesn't mean that you’re just like everyone else. You’re definitely not the type to go ballistic over shots but enjoy your drink best when it comes with a side of insightful conversations. You love living new experiences just as much as you like talking about them.
The Best Cocktail For You: Nothing beats the taste of fine whiskey with some water or ice.The right amount of water will intensify the flavours of whiskey. However, you must try Rob Roy or a Whiskey Sour if you haven’t. This cocktail is made with Scotch and vermouth primarily and tastes delicious.

2. Rum © iStock
Good music and a light buzz is all that you need to have a good time. You’re the one who likes to enjoy the moment, one sip at a time. You’re mostly the last one standing and someone the only one too. Your typical after party routine involves getting some fresh air on your balcony, while listening to some poetic, A.R. Rahaman music.
The Best Cocktail For You: Rum and coke is a classic mix but have you tried rum with tonic water? We definitely recommend this combo for all the rum lovers out there. Add a slice of lemon and some mint leaves and your refreshing cocktail is ready!
__ECOMPRODUCT__1961__
3. Gin © iStock
If you like gin, it’s pretty clear that you like your drinks to be just as tasteful as your life. You’re not afraid to stand out, in fact, you take pride in your individuality. In other words, you’re a rare deal and you know it.
The Best Cocktail For You: We know how much you love your gin and tonic, but do try out a gin martini. You’ll surely enjoy this two-ingredient cocktail. Unlike popular belief, gin is actually pretty versatile and goes well with anything from soda water to pineapple juice.
__ECOMPRODUCT__247__
4. Tequila © iStock
Well, this is not just a drink, it’s a cause for celebration. Be it minor setbacks or massive successes, you’re not the one to shy away from celebrating. You like living in the moment and don’t take life too seriously. You’re the life of the party, the host of the party and the reason for the party, all at once.
The Best Cocktail For You: It’s time to move over shots and try a paloma. This classic tequila cocktail is made using grapefruit juice and is the most refreshing drink to try this summer. This drink will not only give you that tequila buzz you love but also make it yummier.
__ECOMPRODUCT__1962__
5. Beer © iStock
If you like beer more than anything else, you’re the chilled out guy who’s always up for anything. You enjoy letting loose, drunk or not. This is exactly why you like beer. You love the idea of chilling with your friends at a bar but not to the point of recklessness.
__ECOMPRODUCT__1963__
6. Vodka © iStock
You may not be a regular drinker, but when you do drink, you like to go all out. Vodka is the liquor that brings back all your college memories, after all, that’s when you tasted it for the first time. You love drinking and dancing to your all-time favourite tunes, along with your best buddies. You are and will always be young at heart!
The Best Cocktail For You: Vodka is one of the most versatile liquors out there. You can mix vodka with anything from tonic and soda to cranberry juice and lemonade, it tastes good with just about anything. However, our personal favourite is an LIIT, which is perfect for your personality.
__ECOMPRODUCT__1637__
7. Wine © iStock
Your drink is just as sophisticated as you yourself are. Your tastes are unique and exclusive, just the way you like it. You like to end your week on a relaxing note and wine is the perfect companion for that. You’re a romantic at heart and aren’t afraid to show it.
The Best Cocktail For You: Even though a good wine is enjoyed by itself, there’s no harm in experimenting with some classic wine cocktails. We recommend a wine spritzer that’ll not only refresh your mood but also lighten up a boring summer evening.
__ECOMPRODUCT__1964__
The BottomlineYour drink says a lot about your personality, especially if you’re a seasonal drinker.
What’s your favorite type of liquor? Do let us know in the comment section below!

The Samsung Galaxy A72 is the latest contender in the mid-budget smartphone category that offers many premium features other smartphone companies tend to cheat out on. The Galaxy A72’s pricing starts at Rs 34,999 and in return Samsung gives you features such as an IP rating, a great display, a premium design and a telephoto lens. In my opinion, it’s a strong contender in an already crowded market and here’s why I think you should consider purchasing it:
Design and Display The standout feature of the Galaxy A72 is its fresh new design that is very similar to other Galaxy A models that launched this year. In my opinion, the smartphone offers a classy and elegant design with a pastel colour coating. It’s a very minimalistic design that stands the test of time, unlike other gaudy designs. The frame of the smartphone feels premium in the hand even though it has a polycarbonate body. I would have preferred a glass back design to be honest; however, in return you do get a lighter phone.
© MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
Overall, the design of the Galaxy A72 feels more premium than other devices that use a similar design. The camera module perfectly blends with the rest of the body and maintains a uniform look with very minimal branding. If you’ve been looking for a smartphone that looks smart, the Galaxy A72 fits that bill.
It’s also prudent to mention that the smartphone has an IP 67 rating for dust and water resistance which is quite rare to find in this price segment. The Galaxy A72’s IP 67 rating means that the smartphone has been tested to work for at least 30 minutes while under 15cm to 1m of water.
© MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
In terms of display, the Galaxy A72 has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display that has a resolution of fullHD+ and a 90Hz refresh rate. The display also supports HDR content which is now becoming the norm for devices in this price range. In my opinion, Samsung makes some of the best displays for its smartphones and the same holds true for the Galaxy A72. The display on this phone is far more vibrant and sharper when compared to displays to smartphones that cost around the same.
© MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
The 90Hz refresh rate also offers a smoother navigation experience in menus and apps. Overall, the A72’s display is far superior to devices that often do not use the same quality of panel in order to cut costs, that is not the case here.
Performance © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
The Galaxy A72 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G SoC which is not as powerful as the latest SoCs being used in Samsung’s competitor’s devices. However, in my experience the smartphone performed well for most of the basic tasks such as internet browsing, social media, taking pictures with the camera and email. Scrolling through news websites, app lists and social media was smooth thanks to the 90Hz refresh rate and thanks to OneUI 3.1’s animations. OneUI is becoming one of my favourite Android skins in recent times and in my opinion, is currently at par with other top Android skins such as OxygenOS. I was surprised to see how well the OS was optimised for the Galaxy A72 with the exception of facing slight throttling when multi-tasking.
In our test, the Galaxy A72 scored 551 (single-core) and 1745 (multi-core) on Geekbench 5 and a respectable 3,36,278 points in AnTuTu. The Galaxy A72 was able to handle games like BGMI, Genshin Impact quite well where I could run the games in high settings with minimal frame rate drops.
Finally, the Galaxy A72 is powered by a massive 5,000 mAh battery that can last up to an entire day with moderate usage. Continuous gaming or watching videos on the smartphone will yield a total battery backup of around 16 hours. The smartphone is also bundled with a 25W charger that can fast-charge the battery from 0 to 50 percent in 32 minutes. The smartphone also supports PPS PD charging which means you can use any third-party charger that supports the protocol.
Cameras © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
The Galaxy A72 comes with a 64-megapixel primal sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 5-megapixel macro camera. That’s one of the most versatile camera setups you can get on a smartphone that doesn’t come at a premium. In good light, the primary sensor is capable of taking some incredible images with great details, natural colours and awesome dynamic range. The ultra-wide sensor is also a delight to use as it is capable of capturing enough details worthy of sharing on social media.
© MensXP/Akshay Bhalla
The additional telephoto lens is a great addition to the camera setup of the A72 and has more use than the macro lens in my opinion. It is capable of taking clear images when zoomed in up to 3x. However, you will notice the image losing detail and have a sharper outlook when you zoom in further than the native zoom level.
In low light, the Galaxy A72 takes impressive images when using Night Mode however when using with the mode turned off, I didn’t really notice any major difference. Having said that, taking images within Night mode should suffice for users. The camera app also comes with other modes such as Single-Take where the app creates different types of content using multiple shots from the primary sensor. In the video department, the Galaxy A72 is capable of shooting videos up to 4K/30fps which in my opinion is not at par with the competition. There is no optical stabilisation on the primary sensor either which doesn’t feel natural and feels a bit off.
The Final Say The Samsung Galaxy A72 is an impressive offering by Samsung for customers who are looking for a device that comes with premium features and doesn’t cost a lot. If you’ve been looking for a device that has a classy and elegant design and offers a great experience, the Galaxy A72 is a great option to consider. Offering stereo speakers, a beautiful display, IP67 rating and capable cameras, the Galaxy A72 is hard to ignore right now.

One of the biggest shows in Indian history is Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma and if you, at any point in your life as an Indian kid have not been acquainted with it, then it is slightly appalling. With a huge fan following that tunes in daily to chime into the world of the residents of Gokul Dham society, one of the most iconic characters of the show is a certain character named Popat Lal. Essayed brilliantly by theatre actor Shyam Pathak, Popat Lal plays a journalist who is seen carrying an umbrella and his narrative is webbed around his single hood, with everyone trying hard to help him find a match.
© Sony
With a certain kind of image that a character sketches on the brains of a fan, it is sometimes hard for one to imagine our favourite character playing anything else. However, that’s the whole beauty of being an actor where flexibility and changing your look for the demand of a role is a primary function of the job. The actor’s old video from a Chinese movie he did with none other than Anupam Kher has surfaced on the internet and his fans are actually surprised to see him in this unseen ‘avatar’.
View this post on Instagram
Apparently the movie’s name is Lust, Caution and even though his role is a small one in the movie, it nevertheless is a present surprise for his regular viewers who are accustomed to watching him as Popat Lal.

You know the phrase 'gun to your head', which is often used in situations where you imagine yourself being forced to do something?
“Gun to your head, who would you rather kiss…”, “Gun to your head, who would you rather kill..”, “Gun to your head, what would you rather do…” Well, looks like a man finally has an answer to the hypothetical question, where during a robbery, he literally had a gun pointed to his head, and he chose to calmly finish off his hot wings instead of freaking out.
Being called the “chillest man” by the internet, after a video of a restaurant’s CCTV footage went viral, the video captured a robber in a helmet enter and rob an eatery with a weapon in his hand, all the while a man continued finishing his chicken wings off. Because, priorities.
The one minute video started off casually, showing a bunch of people gabbing with each other while others sitting and enjoying their meal.
And then, within the next few seconds, a man with a helmet walks in, pulls out a gun and starts pointing it at people to demand their precious belongings.
Pran jaye par 'chicken' na jaye!https://t.co/t7t3JLc3w8
— StoryPick (@StoryPicker) June 28, 2021
In a normal situation or say, a typical Bollywood film, this would be a good time to do either of two things - secretly call the police and/or let your hero complex kick in and save the day.
This man, however, went for a secret option no. 3 which involved him minding his own business and not breaking a sweat under the pressure.
In fact, he very calmly takes his phone out of his pocket and hands it over with one hand over his head, while with the other he is still taking scrumptious bites of those chicken wings.
Meanwhile, a few standing close to the exit have fled the restaurant while others are giving up their phones and wallets.
Here is how Twitter is reacting to the story :
Not all heroes wear capes
— Follow Up News (@FollowUpNewsGuy) June 28, 2021touch the wing...you will know his special-secret-agent-move
— widi antara (@tacnol) June 28, 2021"yea yea take whatever you want, just not my wings"
— lmao (@fckinastronaut) June 28, 2021Aint no way
— Shuichi Akai ︻デ═一 (@8_bram) June 28, 2021Savage
— Becca White (@BeccaWhite45) June 28, 2021Meanwhile, we are wondering what was more startling, the robbery or the fact that a man could give his undivided attention to his chicken wings while being robbed!
What would your instinct be?
