If things have started to feel a bit monotonous and mundane around you, chances are you’re not alone in that. By forcing everyone to stay indoors, the pandemic has reduced the avenues for nourishment for our brains. Making us feel duller than we remember ourselves to be. Whether you’re an extrovert, introvert or an ambivert, the prolonged nature of indoor living can start affecting your mental health.Β
As harrowing an experience as this might be, the good news is that dullness can be dealt with. Think of it like a workout. When we begin working out our muscles, we start with lesser weights with the purpose of learning the movements and eventually reaping the benefits with sustained efforts. Now, I’m not gonna suggest you dive in the deep end and solve intricate puzzles and other mind games, there is space for them as well. However, there are certain simpler habits that we can develop to help keep our brains sharp:
    1. Read DailyThe importance of reading cannot be reiterated enough. Most people would be left petrified at the prospect of finishing an entire book, after all it’s a habit that’s long lost for most. And they cannot be blamed either as we’re bombarded by new information all the time, thanks to the internet. However, if we break down this practice to a few pages, chapters or even paragraphs a day, we instil discipline and focus within ourselves. Pick a genre you'd be interested in and go ahead. Sooner or later your mind would be a book richer.Β

    2. JournallingIt can seem daunting for many due to its public perception, but journalling is seriously simple. Take a notebook and a pen, or open your favourite notepad app and start writing down the thoughts that pop into your head. You don’t need to sit back and read it immediately. When revisited over a period of time, it helps you help your mind prioritize recurring themes and ideas. It can also be an opportunity for some much required healthy self talk and affirmations.

    3. A New HobbyMassively underrated, new hobbies force your brain to look for novel solutions when old hobbies stop exciting you. Learning how to sketch, picking up gardening, a new dance style or even an instrument can form fresh neural pathways within your brain. This in turn keeps your mind healthy.Β

    4. MeditationWe’ve long had a love hate relationship with meditation, often finding ourselvesΒ  distracted by mobile phone notifications or the countless other distractions that our lifestyles bring. However, that is exactly why meditation is paramount. Constantly distracted and inattentive, our ability to focus weans over the long haul. Start with a minute as your target, or even less if it seems unattainable. Nowadays there are several guided meditations available on YouTube and Spotify that can make the process easier for you.

    5. SocializingAn essential lesson the pandemic taught me is the importance of social interaction. I used to believe that I was too cool to care for the energy and joy that interacting with other people gave me. Not anymore, now I look forward to catching up with my friends and family digitally, sharing the ordinary as well as the exciting parts of my life with them. As social beings, isolation can really dull us down. Reach out and reconnect safely.Β

Sometimes your brain and mental state can be mirrors to your lifestyle choices. With the past couple of years forcing us into a consistently panicked state collectively, it is understandable if you feel different from before. A positive focus on a brighter future can help inspire you to kickstart the gears in your life!Β

And while there are a lot of fresh and new faces in these pictures, the fans simply couldn’t get enough of the timeless Rahul Dravid and requested the BCCI to share even more pictures of the living legend:

Look at him. That's the ideal man.

β€” SAURABH SAGAR (@SAURABHSAGR) June 28, 2021With the A string of the country currently touring England and in the middle of a 20-day cooldown between the World Test Championship and starting their preparations for the five match Test series against Joe Root’s boys, the team in Sri Lanka will be captained by Dhawan with Bhuvneshwar Kumar by his side as the vice captain.
The 20-man squad that was proposed by the Indian cricket board earlier this month consists of the of the biggest names that got snubbed for the England tour, including Hardik Pandya and the β€˜KulChal’ duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Additionally, a second squad has also allowed many younger cricketers to get picked and play at an international level, including names like Devdutt Padikkal, Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad and rookie pacer Chetan Sakariya making the cut. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will be managing the wicket-keeper’s duty.
In a press conference which was held one day ahead of the tour, Dhawan had called it β€œa nice blend of experience and youth.”

Talking about the importance of this tour for the youngsters, especially ahead of the T20 World Cup, Dravid said: β€œ... a lot of the younger boys will be extremely keen to do well. Whether they get called up for the T20 WC is for the selectors to take. But certainly a good performance against international oppositions will help. If you can do well at this level, the selectors will certainly take note. No tour is a life and death situation; it’s not like just because you do well against Sri Lanka, you’ll make it, or vice versa. But performing in the pressure of international cricket, the selectors will certainly take note.”
