After weeks of intensive searches, raids, and even announcing a reward prize for any information on wrestler Sushil Kumar’s whereabouts, the two-time Olympic medallist was finally arrested for his involvement in the murder of Sagar Rana, a 23-year old Indian wrestler.
The Delhi Police have since then explained how the 37-year old has been behaving under their custody and even revealed some moments from his four-hour long questioning at the Model Town police station.

According to a report by livehindustan.com, the police officials said that Kumar was sitting on the floor, crying bitterly while acknowledging his mistake in front of a senior police official. Kumar also said that he had no intention of killing Rana and that he only wanted to scare him off.
The report also states that the former Olympian was awake all night, refused to eat anything and continued to sob throughout the questioning and for the rest of the night.

Following the the death of the victim after an assault on May 5, 2021, Kumar was charged under Sections 302 (murder), 365 (abduction), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On Sunday, May 23, a video of the two-time Olympic medallist being held by both hands, covering his face with a yellow towel and being escorted by the Special Cell had found its way online, only to break the hearts of millions of his fans who used to treat him with respect for everything he had achieved for the nation as a wrestler.

According to the statement of the police given to the court, "Sushil had asked (his friend) Prince to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the wrestling community."
Yet another video showed the very moment when the Delhi Police were able to zero down on Kumar’s location and intercepted his car, got him out of the vehicle and arrested him.

Dating is great fun, but online dating? Well, online dating can be fun, but only if you have great conversational skills. Unfortunately, some of us lack ‘game’ and we end up using some very cheesy and gag-worthy pickup lines, especially when we start a conversation on platforms like Tinder.
    © istock
That doesn’t have to be this way though. Here are some dope pick-up lines & conversation starters that we get courtesy of Friends, which are guaranteed to make your conversations on apps like Tinder much more fun.

    6. Wanna be my lobster?
    via GIPHY
Well, this is a slight twist on one of Phoebe’s philosophical gems. Remember her lobster theory? Well, this is one heck of a line to not just get your conversations started, but also indicate that you mean serious business.
    5. Hi, I’m (xyz). I make jokes when I’m uncomfortable. © NBC
For people who get nervous and end up putting too much pressure on themselves in trying to come with a witty pick-up line, this is just perfect. This actually brings out the Chandler in you and makes you seem a little effable, aloof, but a fun person to be around. Make sure you tone down the “sarcastic comments” a bit if you end up heading somewhere.

    4. It’s unisex. U-N-I-*** © NBC
This is a bit risky, and we would suggest that you deploy it very carefully. But hey, if you and your match both know what you want, are clear why you’re on a dating/hook-up app, and are unapologetic about being your true self, go for it.

    3. Years ago, when I was backpacking across Western Europe, I was just outside of Barcelona, hiking in the foothills of mount Tibidabo...
This is by far one of the most iconic pick-up lines that we got from the show, courtesy of “Ken Adams,” one of Joey’s fake aliases. Don’t ask us how this is supposed to work, just know this - Chandler calls it a “magical line” you say when you want to get intimate. If your match is a serious FRIENDS fan, they’ll definitely get your drift.
    2. I would get off from a flight for you.
This may sound a bit cheesy, and will only work on hardcore FRIENDS fans, but hey, it works well. Especially if you want to indicate that you’re taking the relationship seriously, and would like to explore things further.
    1. How You Doin’?
    via GIPHY
Of course, this just had to be on the number one spot. Can there be a pick-up line more iconic? Well, perhaps not. If you’re lucky, and we mean truly, properly lucky, you can perhaps get your match to giggle. Trust us though, this is a great line.
The bottom line…Pick up lines don’t have to be cheesy or super witty. Keep things simple, and just try these out, especially if you’re a fan of the show. This will ensure that you have a great deal to chat about.

The pandemic has brought devastation in India. The second wave is deadlier than the first one, and with each passing day, we witness a rise in the number of cases and deaths. Amid all of this, there are certain people coming up with bizarre ideas to get rid of the virus. One such example is that of Karnataka's MLA who followed a ritual and claimed that the fire would “clear the air and rid it of COVID-19 virus droplets.”

Recently, BJP Leader and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil conducted 'Agnihotra Homa' to eliminate coronavirus. This took place in Belagavi city on Tuesday.

The country is in lockdown, but the MLA, with a group of 50 people, was seen breaking the norms and pushing the cart that contained cow dung cakes, neem leaves, camphor, Guggula and other herbs. They burnt the composition and performed homa on Tuesday morning.
After doing the ritual, the MLA from the Belagavi South constituency mentioned, "I follow Ayurveda stream of medicine. By performing the homa, I hope we can contain the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.”

He further stressed the importance of doing such rituals and said, "It is our effort to remind ourselves about Agnihotra and other native medicinal practices,” He also claimed that he didn't violate any lockdown mandates.

“Agnihotra homa is a science. You may ask for scientific evidence, but homa itself is science for Hindus. Reporters like you will never understand it. So there is no point in discussing with you over matters of faith,”

Mr Patil, with at least 50 people, was seen performing Agnihotri outside people's homes and mentioned that these practices would go on till June 15.

Belagavi district recorded 17 deaths and has 57,846 active positive cases in the area, said the district administration as per Monday stats.

Indian legend and one of the most prominent faces from the Men in Blue, Irfan Pathan has hit back at the social media criticism he’s faced over the blurred out picture of his wife Safa Baig. According to the all-rounder, the picture was shared by his wife through their son’s Instagram account, and that it was her decision to let the image go online this way in order to not show her face publicly.
Pathan made a statement from his Twitter account, while sharing the same picture again:
This picture is posted by my queen from my son’s account. We are getting lot of hate.Let me post this here as well. She blurred this pic by her choice. And Yes,I’m her mate not her master;). #herlifeherchoice pic.twitter.com/Xy6CB2kKWA

    Here’s how the fans reacted:
If you will teach all this to all girls in your community to be suppressed and not show her face , be in parda, and be in Burqa, they will think like that only that they have to hide their face all the time.

The Pathan brothers, Irfan, and Yusuf have been doing their bit in helping India‘s struggle against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the country by donating face masks, serving food to the hungry, availing oxygen cylinders, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and more with the aim of helping more and more patients recover properly and quickly. The donation is done via the brothers’ Pathan foundation.
Earlier in the year, Pathan had also tested positive with the contagion following his stint at the Road Safety World Series 2020-21 despite being asymptomatic. He recovered fully while being isolated at home.

WhatsApp has finally taken legal action in Delhi against the Indian Government seeking to block the new media rules and regulations coming into force today. The new rules would compel WhatsApp to break privacy protections.
    © Unsplash/rachit-tank-lZBs
The lawsuit was unearthed by Reuters and it asks the Delhi High Court to declare that one of the rules is a direct violation of privacy rights in India’s constitution. The new rules require WhatsApp to identify the “first originator of information” when authorities demand it.

At the moment, the law only requires WhatsApp to identify people credibly accused of any wrongdoing. However, the new rules would force WhatsApp to break encryption for its users as well as “originators” of messages. WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption which protects the privacy of its users.
“Requiring messaging apps to “trace” chats is the equivalent of asking us to keep a fingerprint of every single message sent on WhatsApp, which would break end-to-end encryption and fundamentally undermines people’s right to privacy,” a WhatsApp spokesperson said in a statement. “We have consistently joined civil society and experts around the world in opposing requirements that would violate the privacy of our users. In the meantime, we will also continue to engage with the Government of India on practical solutions aimed at keeping people safe, including responding to valid legal requests for the information available to us.”
If companies and media outlets do not comply with the new rules, they could face criminal penalties. WhatsApp had no choice but to file a legal action in court to oppose the new rules put forth by the Indian Government.

It is worth pointing out that social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram may face a block in the country if they do not comply with the new Intermediary Guidelines set by the Indian government. The deadline to accept the guidelines ends on May 25th. None of the social media giants have complied with the order as of now, but Facebook had said it aims to comply with the new rules.

However, the social media giant added that it needs more engagement with the government on a few issues. “Facebook remains committed to people's ability to freely and safely express themselves on our platform,” the spokesperson added.

We speak for everyone when we say our whole day is spent scrolling social media apps like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. It has been our only saviour in the lockdown.

Apart from staying connected to our loved ones, keeping up with what’s happening in the world and voicing your opinions, these apps are the ultimate way to pass time post work and unwind.

We are the generation that cannot survive without the internet and absolutely cannot spend a day without using these apps.

So obviously, when the central government announced that these platforms may face a ban if they don’t comply to the revised intermediary guidelines, netizens used memes to show their apprehension.

#TwitterBan, FacebookBan and #InstagramBan have been top trending hashtags on Twitter in India and the memes are unmissable.

From mulling over what the users will do without these apps on their phones to their parent’s reaction on the decision, some of these memes are pure gold.

The world is a big place and it is possible to have people who share similar features as your face and look like you and even though the chances of the two lookalikes meeting in a lifetime is one in a trillion, the internet has definitely played a big role in bridging that gap.

For now, here are the top five Indian cricketers to have uncanny lookalikes:

    1. Virat Kohli & Saurabh Gade
    © Indian Express
Although the two have not met each other yet, Gade has made the most of looking like the Indian cricket skipper and even got to be the brand ambassador of a bakery in Pune. When Gade went to see a match between India and the West Indies, so many fans wanted to get selfies with him that the police had to take him to an enclosed stand to avoid law and order issues.

    2. Shikhar Dhawan & Ram Bahadur
    © Twitter / Ram Bahadur
Hailing from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, Ram Bahadur went for a haircut one day and once the barber was done with him, he told him that he resembled India’s opening batsman, Shikhar Dhawan. “He convinced me and twirled my moustache and asked me to look in the mirror. He showed me Shikhar sir’s picture as well,” Ram told The Times of India.
    3. Sachin Tendulkar & Balvir Chand

    © Facebook / Balvir Chand
Just like Kohli’s double, Sachin Tendulkar's lookalike has also enjoyed fame and fortune due to his looks. He doubled for the legend in numerous advertisements and also attended multiple live events for the same. However, when Tendulkar retired from international cricket, Chand decided to settle down and look for a full-time job.

    4. Jasprit Bumrah & Fan From Lahore
    © Twitter / Wali Bahadur
In 2017, a Facebook fan page of the Pakistan cricket team shared an image of one of their fans from Lahore who looked just like Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah. They also followed up the image with a cheeky message for the cricketer. “Thank you @Jaspritbumrah93 for came Pakistan to watch Pakistan vs World XI matches. You always support Pakistan in big events (sic),” they wrote.

    5. Yuvraj Singh & Herry Tangiri

When a young Yuvraj Singh was seen marching down the field with earphones on in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, people thought it was VFX when in fact it was Herry Tangiri who portrayed the role of the all-rounder so brilliantly.

When it comes to badminton in India, the top-tier female athletes earn a lot more than their male counterparts. Back in 2017, Forbes India had released a list Top 100 Indian Celebrities and their annual earnings. Ace shuttler PV Sindhu stood at the 13th spot with annual earnings worth Rs 57.5 crore, becoming the richest non-cricket sports person in the country.
Her on-court rival, Saina Nehwal, stood at 29th place with a sum of Rs 31 crore while the biggest male badminton star at the moment, Kidambi Srikanth was 83rd on the table with earnings worth Rs 6.13 crore.
    View this post on Instagram
In 2019, Sindhu once again made an appearance on yet another Forbes list. This time it was about the highest-paid female athletes in the world and with total earnings worth $5.5 million, Sindhu was once again at the number 13 spot.
Given the ongoing debate around whether or not a difference in pay exists between male and female athletes simply based on their gender, we got in touch with the 25-year old prodigy to learn what she thinks of this theory.
    View this post on Instagram
“Personally, I have never faced anything like it (gender inequality) in my career. I believe that men and women are equal in sports in India,” Sindhu says. “Their salaries are decided on the basis of their achievements and how well they have been performing in their game but that alone is not enough to decide how much a person should get paid.”
However, more often than not, athletes tend to earn a lot of money out of endorsements and advertising deals that they sign with multiple brands. At times, just like in Sindhu’s case, these endorsements end up drawing in a lot more money than a player’s salary or the prize money they’ve won on the court.
    View this post on Instagram
“Secondly, when it comes to the salaries of the players, it completely depends on the kind of person that particular athlete is. They get sponsors and advertisements completely based on their personality, how popular they are with the fans,” she adds.
Sindhu’s take on the gender pay gap in Indian sports is somewhat similar to that of cricketer Smriti Mandhana, who believes an athlete’s salary is directly related to how much revenue they generate for the company or the organisation.
