  1. Rapper Kendrick Lamar's latest album "Damn." held onto the top spot of the weekly U.S. Billboard 200 album chart on Monday, holding off Drake and Ed Sheeran. Lamar's "Damn.," which debuted atop the chart last week, sold a total of 238,000 album units in its second week of release, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan. Canadian rapper Drake's "More Life" climbed one spot to No. 2, while British singer Sheeran's "Divide" climbed one spot to No. 3. The Billboard 200 album chart tallies units from album sales, song sales (10 songs equal one album) and streaming activity (1,500 streams equal one album). New albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart this week include rockers Incubus at No. 4 with "8" and the soundtrack to the upcoming Marvel superhero film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" at No. 8. On the Digital Songs chart, which measures online single sales, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" climbed from No. 8 to No. 1 with 86,000 downloads sold.
  2. “The total number of people living with depression in the world is 322 million. Nearly half of these people live in the South-East Asia Region and Western Pacific Region, reflecting the relatively large populations of those two areas which include India and China,” says the WHO report, titled 'Depression and Other Common Mental Disorders - Global Health Estimates’. We’re talking about a report released by the World Health Organisation that has revealed disturbing statistics about India’s growing condition of depression and mental health, becoming more than a bothersome issue that more people need to start talking about. The report revealed in a lot more detail, that the total cases of depressive disorders in 2015 in India were 5,66,75,969; 4.5 per cent of population in 2015 and the total cases of anxiety disorders were 3,84,250,93; 3 per cent of the population in the same year. Unsplash What this means is very simple—Depression is a disease that is affecting Indians in a way larger than we imagined. It’s easy to talk about depression being an issue; being depressed; talking about people who have been through depression. What’s not easy to do is face facts about the disease and then talk numbers and statistics and what we really are doing to fight this; to actually help people. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in this situation. According to the document, 7,88,000 people died due to suicide in 2015. Suicide is supposed to have accounted for approximately 1.5 per cent of deaths worldwide, making it one of the top 20 leading causes of death in 2015. Suicide, the report claimed was the second leading cause of death among 15-29-year-olds globally in 2015. Where does this place India? According the 2014 report published by WHO, India accounted for the highest estimated number of suicides in the world in 2012. It added that one person was committing suicide every 40 seconds globally. We’ve started acknowledging and talking about depression more openly than we did before. And that right there is a step forward. But, we need to do more. We need to stop judging, pressurizing and isolating individuals who might need our help. We need to talk more openly and stop trivializing the subject. We need to step up our mental healthcare regime majorly.
