Not 'Pushpa' Or 'Family Man' But A 2012 Film Marked Samantha's Bollywood Introduction

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is the talk of the town right now, especially, for her special dance number in the latest Allu Arjun blockbuster Pushpa

The film has been enjoying a glorious run at the box office, especially, in its dubbed Hindi version

A few months before Pushpa, Samantha was also seen playing an antagonist in the second season of Manoj Bajpayee’s hit show The Family Man. The show marked her first full-fledged role in the Hindi film industry.

However, neither Pushpa nor The Family Man was her first introduction to Hindi speaking audiences.

The official Bollywood introduction of Samantha came way back in 2012 with Gautham Vasudev Menon’s romantic drama Ekk Deewana Tha starring Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson.

Ekk Deewana Tha was the official Hindi remake of Samantha’s own Ye Maaya Chesave, her Telugu film debut. It was also the first time she worked alongside her ex-husband Naga Chaitanya.

Just like the Hindi remake, the original film too was helmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.

As a nod to her presence in the original Telugu film, Samantha did a special appearance in the Hindi remake.

In the film, she played the character of an assistant director named Samantha aka Sam who works alongside Prateik Babbar’s character and falls in love with him. However, he is unable to reciprocate her feelings as he is already in love with the character played by Amy Jackson.

This wasn’t all, Ye Maaya Chesave was also remade in Tamil as Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa starring Simbu and Trisha Krishnan. The Tamil remake too featured a special appearance by Samantha.

While the Telugu and Tamil versions of the film were a big success, the Hindi version flopped. However, the music by AR Rahman was a major hit in all the versions.

Years after doing a special appearance in a Hindi film, Samantha will now be making her full-fledged debut in a Bollywood film reportedly produced by Taapsee Pannu. Details about the film are yet to be revealed.
