3 Indian Films Have Made The Cut For The Toronto International Film Festival This Year

<p>The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals out there and it is a matter of great pride for us that three Indian movies will be representing the country there this year.Β </p> <p>Along with great movies from US, Britain, France, Germany, and Spain, Hansal Mehta's β€˜Omerta', Anurag Kashyap's β€˜Mukkabaaz', and Bornila Chatterjee's β€˜The Hungry' will also have their world premiere at the film festival to be held from September 7-17.</p> <p>Omerta, starring National Award-winning actor Rajkumar Rao, follows the infamous British-born terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who kidnapped and murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002. Director Hansal Mehta shared the exciting news on Twitter.Β </p> <p dir="ltr" lang="en"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/OMERTA?src=hash">#OMERTA</a> will have it's world premier at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017 (<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/TIFF2017?src=hash">#TIFF2017</a>). Congratulations & love to the team! <a href="https://t.co/1mv5q3pV1s">pic.twitter.com/1mv5q3pV1s</a></p> β€” Hansal Mehta (@mehtahansal) <a href="https://twitter.com/mehtahansal/status/889852154994987010">July 25, 2017</a> <p>Mehta said in a statement: "'Omerta' is my most provocative film so far. It is a chilling political thriller - a reminder of the volatile times we live in. I'm delighted for the entire team that has patiently and diligently worked on this very difficult film."</p> <p>Another highly anticipated title at the festival is Anurag Kashyap's Mukkabaaz which shows the journey of a lower-caste boxer and his struggle to make his mark in the boxing world.</p> <p class="articleimg"><img id="ed-img" class="art-lazy imwidth-full" title="Indian Films Will Be Screened At The Toronto International Film Festival" data-original="http://media.new.mensxp.com/media/content/2017/Jul/indian-films-will-be-screened-at-the-toronto-international-film-festival-740x400-2-1501238803.jpg" alt="Indian Films Will Be Screened At The Toronto International Film Festival" src="http://media.new.mensxp.com/media/content/2017/Jul/indian-films-will-be-screened-at-the-toronto-international-film-festival-740x400-2-1501238803.jpg" />Β© Twitter</p> <p>Based on Shakespeare's bloody tragedy 'Titus Andronicus', β€˜The Hungry' unfolds at a big fat Indian wedding and features Naseeruddin Shah, Sayani Gupta and Tisca Chopra.</p> <p class="articleimg"><img id="ed-img" class="art-lazy imwidth-full" title="Indian Films Will Be Screened At The Toronto International Film Festival" data-original="http://media.new.mensxp.com/media/content/2017/Jul/indian-films-will-be-screened-at-the-toronto-international-film-festival-740x400-3-1501238829.jpg" alt="Indian Films Will Be Screened At The Toronto International Film Festival" src="http://media.new.mensxp.com/media/content/2017/Jul/indian-films-will-be-screened-at-the-toronto-international-film-festival-740x400-3-1501238829.jpg" />Β© Twitter</p> <p>All of these movies have such interesting storylines and it's amazing to see they're getting recognized on such a huge platform. It just shows that Indian film industry can produce films with substance, but maybe the audience is just not ready for it yet.Β </p>
