With 'Sharmaji Namkeen', Rishi Kapoor Shares A Unique Similarity With 'Joker' Heath Ledger

The late Rishi Kapoor is all set to entertain his fans and movie buffs with his final performance in filmmaker Hitesh Bhatia’s Sharmaji Namkeen.

The iconic actor was halfway through the shoot of Sharmaji Namkeen when he passed away. Post which the makers decided to complete the remaining portions by roping in Paresh Rawal to play the same character.

Since it is a rarity in Indian cinema to have two actors play the same role in a film, Ranbir Kapoor released a special video explaining the change and making an emotional appeal to the audience.

Similarly, the trailer also made sure to educate the audience about having on board two different actors playing the same character.

Well, it may be probably the first instance of such casting in Hindi films, it has happened a few times earlier in the west.

In fact, the final film of Rishi Kapoor shares this very unique similarity with the final film of Academy Award-winning late Hollywood actor Heath Ledger.

Known for playing supervillain Joker in The Dark Knight, Heath’s final film was The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus released in 2009.

The young actor had reportedly completed 80 per cent of the film before he died of a drug overdose.

The makers then decided to rope in three different actors to play the same character portrayed by Heath Ledger and the final cut of the film had Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell play transformations of his character as he travels through a dream world.

While Rishi Kapoor’s last film Sharmaji Namkeen will have two different actors playing the same role, Heath Ledger’s last film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus featured four different actors playing the same character.
