Mumbai Railways Charges 1.3 Lakh Instead 1,333 & This Guy Is Now Struggling To Get It Back

While e-payment at railway booking counters has brought so much relief to commuters, there are still so many things that can go wrong. This incident is an example of that, and a rather extreme one at that.

While buying a quarterly first-class pass for the Andheri-Borivli sector, Vikas Manchekar was supposed to pay â¹1,333, but by mistake, his credit card was swiped for â¹1.3 lakh instead at the railway booking counter in Borivli west.

Manchekar said, “The amount to be deducted was Rs 1,333.30. However, the booking clerk inadvertently keyed in 1,33,330. Now, I have been chasing Western Railway authorities to get the money refunded.” Yes, 1.3 lakhs instead of 1300 bucks.

He notified the station officials immediately, and wrote a complaint to get a refund right then and there. He even called up the bank that issued the credit card, but that didn't help either.

He said, "The stress is bound to increase further as an interest of Rs 4,000-5,000 will be levied on the amount after the due date of August 24. Along with the deducted amount, WR should also pay me the interest if it is charged by the bank."

He even took time off his work just to visit Mumbai Central, where WR's Mumbai division office is located, to sort out the matter. WR's chief public relations officer Ravinder Bhakar said, "Disciplinary action has been initiated and charge sheet also issued to the booking clerk."

"Railways should give intensive training to its booking staff so that such errors do not creep in," Manchekar said. he further added that the Point of Sale (POS) machines should be properly displayed so that the commuters can double check the amount being deducted before entering the PIN.
