Out with the California Town and in with the brand new Portofino-- that's right, the Italian power-chariot maker has replaced its entry level car with a newer, snazzier version. The vehicle was unveiled recently at the IAA, Frankfurt Motor show and was an attraction for many who want to own a Ferrari but burn a smaller hole in their pocket, if $2-2.4 million is a small amount, that is, because that's what the 2+2 seater grand tourer is expected to be priced at.

On a superficial comparison of the Portofino to the California T, you'll notice that the features don't seem to have changed much. Both convertible cars have retractible hard tops, radiator vents on the bonnet, circular taillights, making the cars look pretty much the same. They even have the same 7 speed dual clutch transmission. On a closer look you'll find they've paid attention to detail.

The edge-to-edge radiator grille is designed in contemporary fashion with lesser lines for more breathing room for the engine, the headlamps are more horizontal for better visibility and also hide vents behind front wheel arches that extend into small inward channels designed to reduce drag. The Portofino's aluminium chassis makes it lightweight and a lot lighter than its predecessor.

The 10.25-inch multi-touch full HD infotainment system is also a revamped feature that adds greatly to the allure of the interiors and improves user experience.

Similar story for the power dynamics, you'd ask yourself how's the Portfino's 3.9-litre V8 turbo engine different from the California T's? Well, for one, it's recaliberated and revamped to up the output from 552hp to 592hp, and the top speed from 315kmph to 320kmph. Along with this, the car makers claim that the engine has Zero turbo lag and goes from 0-200kmph in 10.8 seconds.

That's not it though, the Portofino features a fully electric power steering, the first to have been applied to a Ferrari GT.
While Ferrari is expected to make the first delivery of the vehicle in the first quarter of 2018, there is no information yet on whether the Portofino will be seen cruising on Indian roads. For now, we'll just have to settle for this stunning video Ferrari released along with the reveal:
