Well, Riz Ahmed, Thanks For Our Biggest Ever Lesson On 'How To Wear The Suit'

Last night at the Emmy Awards 2017, Brit-Pakistani actor, Riz Ahmed's red carpet abilities took a new route towards sartorial brilliance. However, his basics remained the same—a tried-and-tested international brand, a two-pieced classic cut, slim fit (that even looked very comfortable) and a staple B&W colour scheme. But while the rest of the attendees fared equally well, one big pairing detail on the actor's suit really set him apart. Sight anything abnormal on the area around his neck?

What might look a badass move (to say the least) or a lousy act by the otherwise dapper human, the naked bow tie moment here is actually a prolific red-carpet style trick. So here's the thing: this shirt on Riz is a mandarin-collared shirt. Which, could easily be mistaken for a grave dressing-up sin by most but in our perspective is truly a menswear win. But don't be surprised! If your judgmental eyes have been wide open in the years, you would have noticed this on our dapper men on the red carpet.

To break your shell of always pairing a dress shirt with a suit, let's inform you—a mandarin collar shirt does equally well and looks absolutely appropriate. Only difference? The over-all outfit looks more relaxed, effortlessly put on, but all without breaking the whole vibe of the suit. And what's even better? The shirt yet, looks like a dress shirt when paired with a suit (obviously, the right ones).

Biggest takeaway: you don't have to succumb to wearing the suit this way. It's your personal decision to keep things neat or more relaxed. However, no what route you take here, keep three things in check:

1) The fit of your suit needs to hug you in the right places, not choke your veins with its skinny tailoring. Riz's Prada suit here is slim-fitted, sure, but also roomy enough on the bottom. Having said that, it's not looking shabby at all.

2) We're certain you'll agree: smooth leather dress shoes are the best bet for suits. But men, suede too, is a very luxe fabric to own. Point being: try it.

3) While trying a not-so-ordinary pair of footwear or a new style of wearing the bow tie in an outfit, don't push yourself further. Don't over do things by adding a loud print/pattern too. Keep the two experiments as the focal points of your outfit and reserve a seat among the best of them.

In conclusion, let's just say—this first-ever Muslim and South Asian Emmy winner has really won 2017 with his tailored heroism.
