If you think there isn’t anything as spectacular as the ‘Aurora Borealis’, wait till tonight to witness this year’s first meteor shower, which will change your perception forever. The universe never ceases to surprise us with its beauty and today we will get to witness this extremely rare comet passing the Earth.

You can watch the Quadrantid Meteor shower, also said to be one of the best meteor showers, at its peak on the 3rd and 4th of January. It actually depends on which part of the world you are located in. For instance, people in India and Asia can witness the peak of the shower at approximately around 7:30 PM tonight (14:00 UTC).

Reportedly, it is believed that the annual meteor shower is triggered by the Earth when it passes through the tail of rubble that follows asteroid 2003 EH1. When those pieces of debris and space dust burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere, as many as 100 shooting stars appear per hour. Also, unlike other meteors, the peak viewing time for the Quadrantid Meteor shower is said to be nearly 2 to 3 hours.
