KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has summoned an important meeting of the party today in light of the defection of local party leader Arshad Vohra to the rival Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

Vohra, the deputy mayor of Karachi, announced on Sunday to have quit the MQM-P and joined the PSP, which was formed last year by former MQM members Mustafa Kamal and Anis Kaimkhani.

The MQM-P leadership will meet under the chair of party leader Farooq Sattar at the party?s temporary office in Bahadurabad later today.

Speaking at Geo News? morning show Geo Pakistan on Monday morning, Vohra said his complaints regarding the city?s municipal issues had been going unheard for around a year.

Addressing the media after announcing his decision on Sunday, Vohra had said a number of MQM-P members are in line to leave the party for the PSP.

In response, Sattar had said the party does not want to partake in politics of pressure, adding that the party can bring back the members that have left it for rival political groups.
