The iPhone X Almost Had The Best Smartphone Camera

DxOMark has just released an update in their latest rankings and the iPhone X has been rated as the best smartphone camera for shooting still images! The iPhone X received a score of 101 for still images by the experts at DxOMark which says a lot about the iPhone X's camera fidelity. The iPhone X is Apple's most powerful device yet and even though the X has the same camera setup as the iPhone 8 Plus, it takes better pictures. This is probably because of Optical Image Stabilisation on the second Telephoto lens that allows it to take more stable shots. The telephoto lens also has a wider aperture i.e. f/2.4 that helps in taking better low-light shots.

DxO also discovered that the iPhone X is better for taking zoomed in shots as it produces “very good” exposure and HDR images. The iPhone X renders colours accurately and has a “natural-looking bokeh” effect in Portrait Mode.

The iPhone X has also been touted to have accurate white balance in all lighting conditions, low levels of noise and preserves details effectively. The iPhone X beat the Google Pixel 2 when it came to still images in terms of DxO Mark ratings. The Pixel 2 scored 99 while the Huawei Mate 100 pro scored a 100.

Could Be Better At Shooting Videos

It's not all good news for the iPhone X as the experts found it lackingwhen it came to video recording. Even though the iPhone X is the highest rated camera for still images, the smartphone did not perform well in terms of video recording. DxO experts noticed high-frequency oscillations during walking movements and incredible noise in low-light videos. The iPhone X scored 89 for video recording while the Pixel 2 was awarded 96 points.

The iPhone X scored an overall rating of 97 which puts it one point shy of the Pixel 2's rating of 98. The Pixel 2 continues to stay in the top spot in terms of smartphone cameras while the iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 are tied for the third spot with a rating of 94.

Camera quality and preference is very subjective and depends entirely on personal choice. Having said that, DxO tests are conducted by humans and according to the experts, the iPhone X is still the king when it comes to still photos.
