Just before the scheduled start of the semi-finals featuring Rafael Nadal and Grigor Dimitrov an unusual hash tag started trending on twitter. #FedererVsNadal symbolizes the golden era of tennis for romantics like us who can’t seem to digest the fact that those days of this beloved sport are now over. What these now old men brought to tennis cannot be comprehended by the incredible number of grand slams they share between them and therefore it’s quite incredible that on Sunday we will witness one of these injury nursing stalwarts lift the trophy.

Most of the credit for this amazing weekend treat must go to Mischa Zverev and Denis Istomin who edged out No.1 and No. 2 seeds Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic respectively. But not before putting up a fight which went to five sets each.

Nadal and Federer will face off in the finals of a grandslam for the ninth time. Nadal leads 6-2 against Federer and this, mind you, might just be one of the last times we see them play together. While Federer is leading the all-time grand slam wins with 17 titles, Nadal is second tied with Pete Sampras at 14. 

"Is special play with Roger again in a final of a Grand Slam," Nadal said after the win against Dimitrov. "I cannot lie. Is great. Is exciting for me and for both of us that we still there and we still fighting for important events. So that's important for us, I think. That's very special. After that, you know, is a final. Is a very important match for both of us.

"I hope to be ready to compete well again. I need to go back to the hotel, to rest well and to recover from now."

This coming weekend will be a special occasion at the Australian Open especially since the Williams sisters will also face-off in the finals. With the Bryan brother in finals too, you might want to check if the clock has turned back to 2007 again, right?
