The entire Indian film fraternity is currently protesting against the Karni Sena, which instigated its protestors to not only break into the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next period drama ‘Padmavati’ but even vandalize the sets, destroy film equipment and physically assault the National Award winning director for no justifiable reason.  

The attack was mostly based on an assumption that that the film ‘Padmavati’ would feature a love making scene between Rani Padmavati and her captor Allaudin Khilji, much to the displeasure of the Rajput community who have, for ages, looked up to Rani Padmavati as an icon of loyalty, integrity and strength. Without any proof or credible source of information, the Karni Sena turned violent on Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the crew of ‘Padmavati’. Bollywood gathered to show support to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap being the crusaders of this fight for an artist’s creative liberty.

Karan Johar took to Twitter to express his disbelief. 

Am appalled at what has happened with Sanjay Bhansali....this is the time  for all us as an industry to stand by our people and fraternity!!

The tweet obviously offended a lot of people. The trolls came to the Karni Sena’s defense – not by adding another perspective on the issue or a necessary debate but by shaming him. Gay-shaming him to be precise.

Not so surprisingly, in a country where being homosexual is an insult, Karan Johar’s sexual orientation is the start and end of every discussion.
