We often witness protests concerning different kinds of salary woes- not getting enough salary, not enough raises, inequality in pay et al. But have you ever seen a group of people rejecting $700 million worth of raises? Hundreds of doctors in Canada are doing just that because they think they already have too much money.

Physicians, specialists, resident doctors, and medical students in Quebec have signed an online petition stating that they don't want the $700 million worth of raises they got last month after negotiations with the provincial government.

But before you start thinking what kind of a stupid petition is this, you should know that all this is being done for a reason we could have never imagined. Instead of an increase in their own pay, they would like the government to allocate the funds to make the conditions better for patients and over-worked nurses.

"We, Quebec doctors, are asking that the salary increases granted to physicians be canceled and that the resources of the system be better distributed for the good of the health-care workers and to provide health services worthy to the people of Quebec," reads their petition.

The doctors are of the view that other health-care workers have faced drastic cuts in recent years while the doctors have been given massive increases. 

They further wrote, "These increases are all the more shocking because our nurses, clerks and other professionals face very difficult working conditions, while our patients live with the lack of access to required services because of the drastic cuts in recent years.”

While their initiative deserves applause, we and the rest of the internet can't help but wish we were in their situation:

Nevertheless, the petition is reaching more and more people and by now, more than 700 physicians, general practitioners, specialists, residents and medical students have signed it.
