The iPhone 8s Design Has Been Confirmed By A Double Leak andamp This Is What We Know

Lately, the iPhone 8 has been of great interest for journalists and enthusiasts as everyone is expecting a radical new design for the upcoming smartphone. There was a rumour that Apple might sport a curved OLED display but a double leak and few reports later, the plans are being scrapped.

Nikkei, a very well respected and reputable Japanese publication who have correctly predicted rumours in the past, now report that Apple will have a slight curve to the iPhone 8 but it won’t be what we are accustomed to when we compare it to the Galaxy S7 Edge. According to the report, the curve will have no additional functionality and it will not be the key feature of the phone.

The Nikkei report states that, β€œThe curve will be gentler than screens in Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge handsets. This is partly due to the challenges of making curved glass covers to match screens”. While the curved screen will allow a viewable area of about 5.2 inches and make the iPhone even sleeker, it will not offer significant new functions.

In addition to this report, MacRumors states the same meaning that the β€œdisplay is slightly curved at the edges below 2.5D cover glass, meaning the display itself cannot be dramatically curved.”

Even though the world was excited to see a curved display on the new iPhone model however, there would be no additional functionality; we agree that the 2.5D cover glass will be a better option for Apple. A highly curved screen sacrifices the structural integrity of the phone and can also be the source of many accidental touches.

We sincerely hope Apple proves everyone wrong and produces a radically different iPhone 8 which would breathe new life into the iPhone brand. For now, we only have these eccentric renders from the Internet to please our eyes.
