The promise of 'acche din' has been one of the hottest debatable topics in the country but the current situation of many ATMs running dry and facing a major cash crunch in the country is making the nation hallucinate about the days of demonetisation.
People in Delhi say 'We are facing cash crunch. Most of the ATMs are not dispensing cash, the ones which are dispensing, have only Rs 500 notes. We are facing difficulty, don't know what to do'. pic.twitter.com/zZoeEfOwjk
— ANI (@ANI) April 17, 2018Jharkhand is facing severe cash crunch. Most of the ATMs are not working since 15 days now. No one knows where has all the cash gone.
Neither FM nor PM is available. No one in Govt willing to tell where has all 2000 and 500 notes gone. https://t.co/16QHQ592tb
It's not just the cities but every part of the country is facing this problem. While going cashless is THE DREAM for our economy, the government needs to understand we are not yet well equipped. The nation is questioning the authorities and Twitter is abuzz with a lot of opinions and of course, questions.
Dear Finance Minister,
Cashless Economy does not mean Cashless Banks and Cashless ATMs.
We hope you understand. ð#CashCrunch #CashlessATMs
Why are ATMs going dry? Why's there no cash? Govt says there is enough currency (1,25,000 cr as per MoS Fin) but there's some technical snag. What technical snag no one's saying. And no word from RBI either?
— Zakka Jacob (@Zakka_Jacob) April 17, 2018People are now trying to help each other by tweeting locations of ATM machines which have cash, but that's not going to help for long anyway.
Ok folks....those who r living in Delhi & across NCR...Pls DM me accurate place of ATMs near you which is dried and has cash crunch. Spread it to world and tell me how u n Ur close one r affected due to to cash crunch. Pls help and spread the message.
— ASHUTOSH MISHRA (@ashu3page) April 16, 2018This sounds like a great plan , if only it could be implemented.
Just reverse the process, instead of charging customers for non-maintenance of minimum balance charge the Bank for non-maintenance of cash in ATMs.@arunjaitley @RBI @UrjitPatelRBI #CashCrunch #CashlessATMs #Bank #RBI
— Prem Pearce (@Prempearce) April 17, 2018If I don't maintain my bank account balance they put penalty on me.if I suddenly need cash and if ATMs don't have cash.Whom is going to give me penalty then?? @RBI @FinMinIndia
— Notoriouz Joshi (@Varunjoshi11) April 17, 2018The finance minister finally tweeted an official response after all this mounted pressure and avalanche of questions.
Have reviewed the currency situation in the country. Over all there is more than adequate currency in circulation and also available with the Banks. The temporary shortage caused by 'sudden and unusual increase' in some areas is being tackled quickly.
— Arun Jaitley (@arunjaitley) April 17, 2018While people in big cities might still be able to sail through this with digital money, small towns and villages which still run mainly on cash are suffering the most. Let's just hope this issue is resolved ASAP.
